At times, I can understand where the argument for the Catholic Church to step down from the extravagance comes from, but I suggest a better argument for her continued participation in it. Why would we not want to give the absolutely best quality things in offering to God in the beauty of His churches, vestments, etc.? When we see the Catholic Church, we see heaven touching earth. Surely our best should be given while, also, serving the people of God in modesty :)

Well, I think it's simple. If you think that the Scripture is infallible, how can you conceive that the Church, under whose authority the canon was formed, is fallible? And what's funny is that the other sects (e.g. Protestants) keep using it so as to show "unscriptural" interpretations.
And because the canon was formed through the attention of the early Church, we must also realise that the magisterial interpretation of the Church is necessary.
