I bought one of these "Lemonburst / Honeyburst" '59 Epiphone Les Pauls from you guys back in December. Absolutely amazing guitar. I can't stop playing it - feels so good, sounds so good and looks so good. Over the years I have owned countless Les Pauls (all Gibson) starting with a 1972 LP DeLuxe I bought back in 1975. This is the first Chinese built guitar I have ever bought / played that really does do it for me. Absolutely love it. Thanks so much guys. Now, what I REALLY would like would be a 3PU Les Paul Custom from Epiphone with the American PUs, CTS pots etc. and, ideally, the Jimmy Page wiring allowing any combination of the 3 PUs, split could and phase switch.
I know that Sweetwater is carrying them, but they are currently out of stock in every finish. You guys probably are now too, after this video! I love my Les Paul Standard and I don't gig often, but if that changes this Epiphone LP would be perfect to take out. I'm sure that it won't feel the same, but they seem to have the look and sound nailed! Great vid!
Hi Lee, you made my whole week, so sincere, 22:59 "I, I, finally I think, sort of crossed over, and "just didn't really care that it was an Epiphone rather than a Gibson", "I Just Liked It", yeah you know". Great chops, Take care.
I bought the Lazarus to fill in the gap my old Gibson Classic left in my collection after I sold it and I like it just as much. Previously, Epiphones were fine but missing something.
The extra cash on these over the regular standards is fantastic value in my opinion. Upgrading both pickup would likely cost a couple of hundred. And a good case the best part of another hundred. Tempting. Even though I'm predominantly an acoustic player.
@@careyclark79 from the pickups in this model no reason usually if its a probucker and cheaper grade electronics through some good quality cts pots 50's wiring and any decent set of pickups and done
@@careyclark79 on the regular epiphone standard...not this guitar. My point was it's cheaper to buy this model, with the case and upgraded pickup. Than to mod a standard.
@@JonnyBoss83 This also has the 2-piece body as opposed to the multi-piece body with a veneer on the back, if that matters to someone. Overall, I agree that the '59 is a better value.
I have the Lazarus and I've already made cosmetic changes to it, so it looks kinda like Greeny's. Flipped the neck pickup and changed over the knobs. Plus I found some proper vintage-type pickup rings that make it look like a proper 59. But now, I might pick one of these up and make the same changes and revert the Lazarus to stock. (except for the pickup rings of course 😄.
Don't forget that I'm 4,000 miles away and the signal has to travel through a satellite and RUclipss compressors and then up to a further satellite (for US distribution) and then down fibre optics to my house where it goes through a computer line to a WiFi etc., I thought the Epi was slightly thinner sounding, less complex sound than the 58. Less complex tends to reduce room filling sound even if it's louder (all else being the same). When I got my custom shop '61 Les Paul SG I was convinced it was the loudest guitar (or most powerful) I owned; it wasn't, the 81 Les Paul Custom (boat anchor) was actually louder but the '61 was just more beautiful, more room filling, yet it still had that "bark" when you wanted it to. Best, Pete.
I just wanted to say the way you have photographed this model for its sale page on your website should be the standard going forward! Photos are great, really show off the guitar well and show all the details, angles and features I am looking for with pictures of a guitar for sale.

Trust me, you are not missing out on anything with these Epiphone Les Paul guitars unless you want the p90 special or the double cut Jr. Or mini humbuckers one. You don't have an Explorer do you !? You should get one of those new Epiphone Explorer in korina or green !? Trust me you can do way better for that $899 ! Hamer has a double cut flame top with tremolo and humbuckers for $549-$799 and it's going to have perfect fret work unlike most of the new, rushed out because of covid back order Epiphone Les Paul with bad high frets ! Just saying fun experience with the new Epiphone guitars . I had to send the Epiphone Les Paul TV special back and get a better one because of bad fret work. The second I got was better but the frets are still so so low I cant do but 1 tiny little level because there's no fret left. The Epiphone prophecy guitars are way way better but $899 but that explorer has ebony fret board and is perfect and worth it ! The Jared James old glory I got was really good and decent fret work and tall frets but was so heavy 13+ pounds (7kilo) but we really good guitar just couldn't stand it 😜 on my back ! I also ordered a Les Paul Gold top traditional pro that was freaking amazing and perfect in every way but has a broken Headstock 😭 so sad because that guitar was perfect and cheaper than all the rest but Sam Ash didn't want to replace it with a new one because the one I got was on sale $289 and I was crushed they would not send me another guitar after buying 2 other Epiphone Les Paul guitars (TV yellow special and jjn old glory) so they refunded me and I got a Hamer copy Explorer and then The flying V and they are my 2 best guitars and blow the GIBSON Les Paul trad, SG standard cherry burst and all the other Gibson Jr. Guitars I've got ! You could find a Hamer Les Paul flame top double cut or Jr with p90's that put Gibson to shame !
Stepping up there game? They have just gone back to the old days when Epiphone was top quality and kicked Gibsons Ass...Les Paul tried to get Henry to return Epiphone to its glory days and Henry refused..now we have a new owner who has done what Les Paul always wanted for Epiphone..let's not forget that les paul invented his solid body guitar the Log in the Epiphone factory in 1941 Ten years before Gibson got involved and he never left Epiphone and he saved Epiphone..Les Paul was with Epiphone from 1940 until his death in 2009..
What comes across is the care and attention to detail that the epiphone brand is getting. Lets face it it doesn't get more epic than Epiphone. Gibson and Epiphone aren't just brands they're icons. The fact the Les Paul is still hear and hasn't changed a design that's stood the test of time that's held in such a high regard of our idols its no surprise they are such coveted guitars.
I ordered 1 of these from Andertons last Friday, it's by far the best colour to go for so nice 1 to Andertons for having the foresight to do it. I hope they come set up and ready to go, I can't wait to get it.
My favorite Les Paul is the 59! Obviously I'll never be able to afford one! I'd love to have 1 of these, I have 2 Gibson Les Pauls, 1 Custom and 1 Classic, this would be a great addition!
I recently acquired a set of Seymour Duncan 59‘s, but the magnets were swapped out for A2s. The Les Paul is the standard 50s Epiphone, and I would be willing to put mine up against one of those. I have played the 59 that was done in collaboration with the custom shop, and it’s great. But I do believe these Seymour Duncan‘s have placed me level with that, if not slightly ahead. Plus I like the flame top better on mine. All in all, these are all phenomenal guitars for any money.
There is quite a bit of variance in the output range of Burstbucker 2 and 3. I have seen Burstbucker 3 as high as 9k and a bunch that are 8.6k/8.7k and I have seen many BB3 8.2k/8.3k and some 8.4k/8.5k. The custombuckers seem more consistent in output and I have also noticed that BB3s from the last couple of years to be lower in output and more consistent. Most of them from the last couple of years have been between 8.2k and 8.4k with the high 8.6k and higher BB3 becoming more rare. Accodimg the the head of product development at gibsom at gibsom they have really been concentrating on the pickup shop trying to up their game in that department. They purchased a building next store to the Gibson factory and turned it into their pickups shop they used to wind the pickups right in the main factory but now they have a separate building Just for pickup production and they hired a new manager for the pickup shop who apparently had substantial experience with pickup winding and production . There are also apparently going to start winding a wider variety of custom shop level pickups . The custombuckers will still be their main custom shop pickups but they are going to start doing limited runs of paf replicas of varying spec with will in some cases be more vintage correct in terms of detail and material that would not be possible on a larger regular production scale. They will most likely be used on limited run guitars and as part of made to measure.
Lee mentions the 1958 Les Paul, and first thing to my mind is the late Gary Richrath of REO Speedwagon. Great player, excellent songwriter, and IMHO, one of the sweetest guitar tones of all his mainstream rock contemporaries. His '58 'Burst has seen so much; oh, the stories she could tell..... :)
Burstbuckers 2 and 3 are supposed to be hotter then custombuckers but I have 3 epi 59s and I put custombuckers in one of them and the custombuckers sound more aggressive and people need to keep in mind the DC resistance does not always tell you how aggressive or mellow a pickup might sound. The winding patterns of the coils are where the tone of the pickups come from . A lighter wound pickup can sound more aggressive then a hotter wound pickup if the pickup has a different EQ curve . Also the EQ curve of the guitar itself plays a big role in how mellow or aggressive a pickup sounds . The custombuckers I have in the epi 59 came out of An R8 les paul and they sounded very bright in that guitar but they were quite mellow in output but in the epi 59 they sound alot hotter then they did in the 58 RI .. DC resistance on PAFs does not always tell the story. Custombuckers also have a weaker magnet then BBs. A3 is actually weaker then A2 but despite this and being wound lower on DC resistance they often sound hotter then BBs even the hotter wound BB3 and 3. A guitar that has alot of mids naturally especially upper mids can make a low wind pickup sound much hotter then it actually is . The original Custombuckers was the Jimmy Page custom Burstbucker and many people reported that the Bridge Pickup was seemed quite hot but were shocked to find out the Page custombucker only measured between 8k and 8.2k . Those pickups had a unique winding pattern that made them sound hot .
@@mr.smithgnrsmith7808 That's subjective. If you look at the top 10 best guitarists of all time, 6 of them use Fender guitars as their main guitar, and only 4 use mostly Gibsons. If we're to talk about Les Pauls vs Stratocasters in particular things get even worse. There's 6 players using Stratocasters and only 2 using Les Paul. So... sorry about that, looks like the Stratocaster makes the best sound in rock.
Tried 4 1959 Epiphones today, 3 sounded pretty good, almost great, and one sounded ABSOLUTELY great, but there are several reasons I didn't buy it. All had frets that needed polished, none of them were setup well and the one that sounded terrific was damaged from the factory (looked like dropped) or at the Guitar Shop and the nut needed re-cut for the E-string and a knob was missing. Unfortunately, that was the one that I would want to buy. The "So What" is I wouldn't if you plan on buying one I would play in person and factor in a setup, fret polish, and/or level. The tone/sound was consistent across 3 with 1 being a jewel on my first run at playing these. I'll keep hunting for one, but I'm not as excited as I was previously. I wish the frets were taller, and stainless, but that wouldn't be period correct.
My Epiphone Les Custom antic ivory is probably one of the best investment I’ve ever made. It doesn’t have the Les Paul pickups, but the sound still cuts through.
The neck carve on the Epi '59 is more "D" shaped IIRC. I much prefer the Gibson "C" shape in direct comparison but it wouldn't be a deal breaker. A used Epi '59 will probably be the absolute 'best bang for the buck LP' in due course. However, amazing used deals are likely the wiser buy right now. I recently purchased a minty 2016 Gibson LP HP Studio in Vintage Sunburst for the same money. It sounds huge, has 'that tone' and has rapidly become my current fave guitar...
Seriously, if Gibson just put the Gibson headstock on these Epiphones they would probably never sell any more USA made Gibson standard... These sound great!!
I am from the US, but I want one. Have been a subscriber for a long long time and feel your channel is the best and very honest. Trust you guys. Thanks Lee and Pete.
i got a Bonamassa Lazarus 1959 standard, with the one piece neck, and graph tech nut, and a mini tiger flame veener Top this is a special guitar............
ITS The 50s wiring that make it sound like that , wired 50s specs which make it sound and react different from standard wiring . I have the 59 Burst when they came out and I love it !
The Epiphone is an insane deal, sounds excellent, gonna grab one. Got two PRS's, had an 80's LP with all kinds of issues and sold it off. This is worth taking a swing.
Been watching too much TPS, Pete? You almost did the Mick Taylor lick. Flat 5 gracenote, into 4, minor 3rd, 4, 5, minor 3rd. He plays that lick so much that it feels like trolling.
There are two other Bursts in addition to this one and the two original ones which is Cherry Burst and Dark Burst. The two additional ones are Honey Burst ( otherwise known as ‘Somebody. screwed up Burst) and Southern Fade Burst. There best colors are the Lemon Burst and the Southern Fade Burst then after about 20 applications of Carnauba wax. They look fantastic.
I went to multiple guitar shops a few days ago looking for a great les paul. After a dozen gibsons i was feeling super let down and disillusioned. Then i grabbed one of these off the rack as a fluke, and loved it immediately. Fretwork was better than the gibsons, and while it is heavy, it sounds awesome. Bought it on the spot
I bought a 06 LP standard last year, didn’t have the original pickups so I put pearly gates in. Thinking of getting this, and swapping the pickups in them 👍
Thank you for again a nice video. Like watching you guys. Love the color on this guitar. How does this guitar compare to the Epiphone Slash and Joe Bonamassa Lazarus guitars? Which one is better? On pictures and video it's hard to tell, but the Slash Appetite color looks a bit more glossy and this one and the Lazarus are a bit more satin? Or are they actually quite close to each other color wise?
I have the new 59 Epi LP standard outfit. It was pretty damn good out of the box, only needed the frets sanded, steelwool and polish. Changed strings, did a setup, SOUNDS AND PLAYS AMAZING! Epi really knocked it out of the park!
That seems to be their most common downfall from the ones I see around lately, bad fret work. Most are ok with a little break in or polishing but I've played A number of them with high frets from the factory or bad intonation because of the drilling into the top for the bridge. If they get their QC up a few notches they will really have something
Captain Pepper's Lonely Hearts Pete Band! This is similar to the guitar I put together for myself 15 years ago and I had to get the pickups/pots/etc. separately and it's a quilt top instead of a flame, but the color is very similar. That guitar is still my favorite.
Very nicely done guys! I am now going to by one, (U.S.) to the local shop I noticed had one in stock! Sure wish I could do it justice like you gentlemen do. Looking forward to working on that.
The finish is way to orange for an aged lemon burst. The dark burst and Southern fade finishes have been the best so far . The lighter color finishes like cherry burst Honey burst and lemon burst are top bright ananzing sounding guitars though.
Ordered yesterday, arrived today! Now that’s quick! What a beast! Just a quick noodle through my little NU.X and the sound is fantastic. Only question is did you guys play these straight out of the box or were the strings changed and the guitars set up? I’ll probably change the strings and have to give the frets a wee polish but other than that it’s excellent!
I wasn't looking at the screen during the intro jam, genuinely thought you guys were playing $2000 Gibsons until I finally looked and saw the epiphone headstock
This Lemon 🍋 Burst or Dirty Lemon 🍋 finish is easily my favorite and I have been tottering g on the brink of buying one for a while. Compared to the price of the Kossoff signature model from 2012 these are for nothing ... I will have to think hard 🤔
The flame on the Gibson is just so much nicer. If a veneer is to be used, it should be a veneer of a top like that one. Those fat flaming tops are gorgeous. The Epiphone is fantastic but those thin straight stripes on top are not nice at all. I’m shallow when it comes to the looks of a guitar. It has to look great for me to enjoy playing it.
Many people have found super flammey tops underneath the gold paint on 1952 to 1958 les pau gold tops when people did conversion jobs to turn their gold tops into into sunburst les Paul's. And had the pickup cavities expanded to fit humbuckers .
Just acquired one of these, in as new condition second hand from Mudpie in Brighton. I've had the Greeny mod done by Simon bailey guitars. Sounds excellent
Awesome demo as always, the only issue with these guitars is they have to be set up, also make sure you change the strings, or your fingers will turn black

Burstbuckers sound so good when other people play them. When I play them, it's mud city. I like my Lazarus, but I had to pull the pickups out for something with a brighter neck.
@@Rockfish66 I did all of that and even turned the neck around so the raised pole pieces were closer to the bridge, but it was still too dark for me. I swapped in some Wilkinson WVC PAF copies and now I love it. The Wilky neck is only wound to 7k.

It will Always be Chinese........
Is anyone gonna talk about how much better the captain has got in the last couple years?
I love his playing :D!
Absolutely. And his spacing is excellent. He doesn’t just run non stop…like me lol
Pete is a great teacher.
Even though this video is old it was like he was always in Chappers shadow but you’re right The Captain is rockin !
These 59 Epiphone Les Paul guitars are just an awesome value and play great. They also look sweet with that satin finish top.
I’m a huge skynyrd fan and I NEED one of these in the lemon burst. Looks just like Gary Rossington’s 59 lemon burst.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the lemon drop ! That’s my favourite colour for a Les Paul. Thank you Captain ! 🤘🤪😂
Tempting. Even though I'm predominantly an acoustic player.
usually a decent pickup change with a prewired harness 50- 150 plus pickup set another 200 -250 usually so it does add up
Why would u upgrade pickups
Don't forget that I'm 4,000 miles away and the signal has to travel through a satellite and RUclipss compressors and then up to a further satellite (for US distribution) and then down fibre optics to my house where it goes through a computer line to a WiFi etc.,
I thought the Epi was slightly thinner sounding, less complex sound than the 58. Best, Pete.
Epiphone is knocking it out of the park as of late...I have one of these and love it!!
For the price...... However, the Gibson (at 27;00) is SO SWEET!
I just wanted to say the way you have photographed this model for its sale page on your website should be the standard going forward! Photos are great, really show off the guitar well and show all the details, angles and features I am looking for with pictures of a guitar for sale.
Yeah the Lemonburst looks much nicer than the dark burst or that clown burst cherry one!
The Captain!!! King of the Blues! The note choices the Cap makes always invoke such feeling. Another great jam Cap! Check it out here at 24:00
Epiphones definitely stepping up their game, I already own a gibson lp standard but this made me want to buy an epiphone les paul to play on 😂
Same!
Do it!!! I have a 2019 Gibson Original 60’s LP and I LOVE it….just recently got an Epi ‘59 Darkburst and I love it just as much. So inspiring to play, different league than the usual Epiphone. Night and day. And cheap for what you get!!
Worth it. Especially if you want to try modding
Nice overview guys. ❤️ You never pester me Captain. 🤜🤛
I have one of the epiphone 59's. WOW, you get the experience of playing the greatest guitar of all time for just 800 bucks.
Great playing guys. Love your channel.
I ordered 1 of these from Andertons last Friday, it's by far the best colour to go for so nice 1 to Andertons for having the foresight to do it. I hope they come set up and ready to go, I can't wait to get it.
Hope I get mine before you🤣🤣
My favorite Les Paul is the 59! Obviously I'll never be able to afford one! I'd love to have 1 of these, I have 2 Gibson Les Pauls, 1 Custom and 1 Classic, this would be a great addition!
Always love your vids across the pond. I have several vintage and new guitars. Really love my 59 Epi. Yup got mine
I happened to buy mine from Guitar center in Atlanta. Had no idea it was so special
:)
The.Richrath.
Saw.Gary & his burst five times & he blew me away each & every time!
Superb knowledge 😅
Les Pauls aren't my thing, but at that price, that's a pretty good deal.
Les Pauls make the best sound in rock n roll
@@mr.smithgnrsmith7808 That's subjective. If you look at the top 10 best guitarists of all time, 6 of them use Fender guitars as their main guitar, and only 4 use mostly Gibsons. If we're to talk about Les Pauls vs Stratocasters in particular things get even worse. There's 6 players using Stratocasters and only 2 using Les Paul. So... sorry about that, looks like the Stratocaster makes the best sound in rock.
Mines just Arrived today straight from Andertons its stunning wonder if ive got one of the ones the captain or Pete where using :)))
Looks great value especially with hard case.
My Epiphone Les Custom antic ivory is probably one of the best investment I’ve ever made. It doesn’t have the Les Paul pickups, but the sound still cuts through.
such a good video! loved every moment!
U do know u can buy one here in tge US right...lol
THIS IS A QUANTAM LEAP FOR THE EPI WELL DONE CAP.
i got a Bonamassa Lazarus 1959 standard, with the one piece neck, and graph tech nut, and a mini tiger flame veener Top
this is a special guitar............
These look great and the spec is brilliant. Usual question, were there any lefties in your run?
Been watching too much TPS, Pete? You almost did the Mick Taylor lick. Flat 5 gracenote, into 4, minor 3rd, 4, 5, minor 3rd. He plays that lick so much that it feels like trolling.
Pete's playing in the intro jam was insane! Loved it
Pete is the ####*** man. Love watching him play. So smooth and clean. Great work guys
I love, love, love my `59!
Thinking of getting this, and swapping the pickups in them 👍
That Gibson sounds just lovely!!!
Doesn't mean the Epiphone ain't good, it is!! but that Gibson sounds lush and smooth.... it just does
Thank you for again a nice video.
I bought one after watching the Captain and Pete! Great video as usual.
Ultra modern weight relief PLEASE!
We just took a random 2 out the boxes!
@@andertons wow. How black were your fingers! After 20 mins noodling mine were minging!
If there's one thing I wish Epiphone would be better at, it's colour accuracy.
I know we're talking about
I’m sure its done on purpose. The Gibson lots way different and beautiful
Ask Gibson ? Epiphone is a Gibson product. When you get an Epiphone you are getting what Gibson sold you in that branding and price range.
Great playing from the guys.
The Gibson has that Alex Lifeson Fly by night tone . Clean with just a bit of breakup around the edges .
Well done Andertons. Looks lovely.
Always The Best Videos, Beautiful Guitars 👍👍🎶🎶🎸Most Excellent Jam Sessions.
I can watch these over and over again..... Still on the hunt for my Unicorn of an LP...
Picked up a 2020 Lemon Burst in Mint Condition from Reverb. Arrives today! 😛
Love Epiphones highly acclaimed Pro bucker pickups also
Beautiful guitar guys! Wish you did these with the 50s neck though… there’s not enough out there for us taller guys, I really struggle with the slim taper, it’s the only thing that stops me buying, I need that phat neck. 😢
The epi 1959 does have the 50's neck? The neck profile is almost exactly that of a 1959 Les paul shape.
hardly "slim taper"
Well I'll say to any buyers the epiphone is the best guitar in the shop in andertons for the money hands down beautiful guitar and plays and sounds fantastic. I have one. Have a 76 Gibson les Paul standard too. I'll give the nod to the epiphone
I think that Epiphone should be making more of these!
Do you ship to ormond beach Florida. I am interested in the Epiphone lemon Les Paul after seeing this video it's so nice to see your honesty with the Epiphone line for the people like myself that can not afford a Les Paul
Burstbuckers sound so good when other people play them. When I play them, it's mud city. I like my Lazarus, but I had to pull the pickups out for something with a brighter neck.
I just got a Lazarus and the stock pup adjustment was terrible. Tweaked the pole pieces and it's fabulous now.
@@Rockfish66 I did all of that and even turned the neck around so the raised pole pieces were closer to the bridge, but it was still too dark for me. I swapped in some Wilkinson WVC PAF copies and now I love it. The Wilky neck is only wound to 7k.
Pete wearing the same sweatshirt in every video😀😀😀. Anyways, nice demo. Great video👍👍
Is the Lemon Burst an exclusive to Andertons? I cant find that color in the Guitar Center, Sweetwater, Sam Ash, and other music stores here in the States.
