Fuji Pro 400H’s discontinuation is what finally prompted me to try new stocks. Thanks for sharing your results with Ektar!

Ahh Fuji Pro 400H! I haven’t used it in ages. I was never a massive fan but I didn’t enjoy it on some occasions! And thank you!

That was my 'photographic resolution ' for the new year, to take risks with my photography. Not sure it has worked so far, but it has managed to get me out of the house and about a bit more.

I think it’s always a good resolution to have! What have you been shooting recently?

I've found that ektar is much more toned down when printed vs. scanned. Looking forward to the printing videos

Must say, I really, and I mean reaaaallly, love your work!
It's always so inspiring to watch your videos, and the description you do of your thought process, thank you again for this one!
And, in regard to the video's subject : I really thought I was the only one that wanted to try Ektar in studio (or at least for portraits) but you're proving me wrong, and the results are really stunning! Great idea!
I wonder : does the low iso, in combination with the not so bright constant light (especially colored one) made it difficult to get good exposure ? Like, what shutter speed were you on, and was it possible to shoot handheld ?

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind words.
If you’re shooting with strobes, it’s not a problem at all because the flashes are so much more powerful and have such a high output that it actually makes perfect sense to use a slow speed film. However, your point about the continuous is definitely where it gets more difficult! The lights I was using were fairly bright lights with strong output, but if I remember rightly I still had to use a slow shutter - I think around about 1/30 for those. I did shoot them handheld but I think you’d have a lot more trust in the process shooting with a tripod. If you’re just shooting with constant lights and not strobes, Ektar probably isn’t the stock for you, but it’s definitely still doable!

@SophiaCarey Thank you for the detailed answer, it's very kind of you!
Being still young, and having little to no budget, I have not, yet, taken any photos in studios, but this helps visualise it a little more!
I think that, when I will have the chance to do a shoot in studio, maybe I will go with something like gold 400, or really anything above 400.
I love the freeness of the handheld usage, but I also have very very shaky hands, so I think I'd be forced to use something that would allow me to put a high enough shutter speed.

@@miskxx9233 that’s understandable! In that case, I’d definitely recommend a 400 or 800 speed ISO for you when shooting in daylight and/or constant lighting.
When you’re shooting with strobe/flashes, you don’t have to worry as much about shakiness as the flash will freeze your image. And, like I said, flashes have much higher output so you can get away with shooting 100-200 ISO.
Let me know if you need any specific advice! I know that studio photography can be difficult to learn since it has such a high barrier to entry, so anything I can do to help, please let me know!

@@SophiaCarey I am currently trying to plan a small shoot in the next week with both strobes & constant light available, if i have any more question I'll make sure to message you (and even if you don't answer it's okay, i'd suppose you have plenty to respond to!)
thank you again for the advices and the inspiration, some of you work will be for sure taken as inspiration if you don't mind :p

@@miskxx9233 of course! Let me know if I can help with anything. I have quite a few videos on the channel about studio photography, both strobes and continuous, as well as shooting film in the studio, so hopefully you find some of it useful!!
