    I love my snake rack. I had my friend make me a 4 high that uses huge Christmas tree storage containers about 52 inches long x 14 x 17 I think.

    I agree, that style of wire shelving is super useful. Plus being able to tie-wrap power cords, sensor cable, controllers, etc to the rack is really handy. Also, being able to use different-sized heat areas for different needs.
    I just wish so much that Vision made a lid for their V70, V28 and V35 tubs. I would ditch my PVC racks if that were the case. I have a few Vision cages that sit on wire shelving like you have. Perfect.

    Very helpful. I use those wire shelves a lot for many things. I will use one for my corn snakes. I wanted to know what bins you use to prevent escapes but I see you have more videos about this setup. Thanks. Subscribed 👍🏻

    I’ve been doing a lot of research on racks and the different companies so far and not to name drop but Reptile Basics and Animal Plastics seem to be the best for ppl just starting out. Reptile basics for a 6 tier subadult-adult rack with tubs and tape can run you close to $365 since they offer free shipping on orders over $300 I believe. Where Animal Plastics is close to that it can be a hassle since they don’t sell the tubs with the rack they’re sold separately. So for an all in one I’d say Reptile Basics using the VE (Vivarium Electronic) racks. The wire rack seems like a very good idea also and is budget friendly definitely love saving money whenever possible. Thanks for the info good sir.

      you arent wrong, ultimately what it boils down to is what can people afford to get and how much can they spend at any given moment, how much self control do they have to actually save up to get an AP or reptile basics rack, vs spending 100$ here or 100$ there and grow as their needs grow. Also this is much more versatile than an AP or VE rack. just depends on what your needs are. :-)
      I'm actually down to 10 snakes and only have a single AP rack now, because my goals and plans changed.

      Reptile Basics does not include the tubs with their racks you have to pay for the cost of the rack, on top of the cost for the tubs. Depending on how much you actually need this can be more expensive then other options that do include the tubs. It is best for everyone to do their own due diligence and really shop around for the best deals that include ALL the equipment they will need not just an empty rack.

      @650RepzOFC 5 месяцев назад

      @@dakupenndragon810 actually that price is including the tubs that are sold separately yes. I didn’t mean the tubs were included I meant that the tubs are sold separately on their own store you don’t have to buy the rack then go to a different website all together to buy tubs they sell it all on their website. That’s what I meant. But thanks for the input.

    Is each shelf on a thermostat or is it all on one thermostat? I'm having a really hard time trying to figure out how to run one thermostat for the entire rack

  • @xgreycex
    @xgreycex 3 года назад +2

    do you notice a lot of heat loss = heat tape thermostat needs to be on more often due to the fast that there is no insulation on the shelves?

    • @FoxHollowReptiles
      @FoxHollowReptiles  3 года назад +1

      No not at all, the reason is my thermostat probe is inside the tub with my snakes, and not out in the open air sitting on the heat tape. Once the bedding inside the tub reaches temp it acts as insulation. I later added an insulating layer to protect the heat tape from rubbing out with boxes sliding across it. Not for performace reasons.

    hi there, i was wondering if you ground your metal shelves?
    i bought heat tape for my metal shelf and the instructions say to ground any metal the heat tape may come into contact with. Or do you just avoid this entirely by insulating the heat tape? Thanks.

    • @FoxHollowReptiles
      @FoxHollowReptiles  2 года назад +2

      I ultimately ended up insulating the heat tape, since it is statically in place with nothing rubbing or moving, im not worried about it.

    Hey great video and idea! Only question is how did you connect the foil tape. Like which part of the heat tape did you tape to the metal rack with the foil tape?

    • @FoxHollowReptiles

      The front half inch of the tape, and it attaches to the bars

    What shelf is the black plastic rack for the bull snakes? What are the deminsions of the black plastic rack?

    • @FoxHollowReptiles
      @FoxHollowReptiles  3 года назад

      the black plastic rack is the largest plastic rack that lowes carries, I chose it by taking the 54qt tub to the shelf displays and finding the shelf that it would fit in. my rack is made from 2 of the shelves. I'll reply back with dimensions also.

      Things weren't so expensive a few years ago, and you can get cheaper thermostats. It's also much cheaper than buying a ton of tanks and finding room for them and wasting money on bulbs that need to be replaced often. It's an investment that lasts years possibly a lifetime
