    Readings: Genesis 9: 8-15; Psalm 25: 4-5, 6-7, 8-9; 1 Peter 3: 18-22; Mark 1: 12-15
The readings for the 1st Sunday of #Lent Year B, speak to us about God's faithfulness, the importance of repentance and conversion, and the Call to renew our #Covenant with God.
In the first reading from the book of Genesis, we hear about God's covenant with Noah and all living creatures. After the great flood, God promises never to destroy the earth again with water and establishes a covenant with humanity. The rainbow is a sign of this covenant, a reminder of God's faithfulness and mercy towards His people. It is a symbol of hope and renewal, showing us that no matter how challenging life may seem, God's love and promises endure.
The psalm echoes this theme of God’s covenant and love that was manifested in old. Today's psalmist asks for improved understanding and comprehension of God's purpose. The psalmist prays that God would continue to be as kind and kind as He was when He made the covenants of old.
In the second reading from the first letter of Peter, we are reminded of the saving power of Christ's sacrifice. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus has opened the way for us to be reconciled with God. Just as Noah was saved through the waters of the flood, so too are we saved through the waters of baptism, which now saves us. This reading emphasizes the importance of embracing our baptismal call to holiness and living as children of God.
In today’s Gospel, we see Jesus being led into the wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted by Satan. This experience prepares Him for His public ministry and shows us that even in the face of temptation, Jesus remained faithful to God's will. As Jesus begins His ministry, He proclaims the Good News of repentance and the kingdom of God, calling us to turn away from sin and believe in the Gospel.
