How bad were the rains when Bengaluru flooded?

With above average rains and extreme unplanned urbanization, Bengaluru faced a deluge last week leading to the city being flooded at a scale comparable to Mumbai. What weather pattern led to the intense rains and how did they compare to rains this time of the year? What led to the city flooding, and how is it going to be in the future?

The biggest problem in Karnataka and specifically Bengaluru is that there has never been a stable government for a long time. So for the short stints that coalition government comes in, the most low hanging fruits for the government is urbanization and the windfall graft that comes along with it. And all parties are to blame for it. The last time there was a stable government was during SM KRISHNA. If I am not mistaken, SG had covered this issue in CTC earlier this year

The thing is Bengaluru rarely ever gets this level of rainfall. So the infrastructure is not used to nor built to handle the stress of it. Even govt's can only prepare for what they are used to.
