How could anyone ever dislike this. That pain that dementia and alzheimer's causes is unbearable. I guess those 472 people who disliked this have never felt that.
Or maybe they're hurting? The thumbs down may not be a dislike, but a sign of their pain? This is my first time listening to this song, and I'm about to cry because I have firsthand experience with this (like so many others unfortunately). I'm not big on country music but I get this story. Whew.
I disliked it because the video sucks. The song is incredible but the video is the most boring thing I can imagine. Why is there not an old man anywhere in this video? Go look up the music video for the song, "That's How I Wanna Go Out". That's the kind of video I was expecting not driving, standing, driving, walking, standing, driving, walking, standing, etc. Why even make this? It takes away from the song instead of adding to it. I just showed it to my girlfriend to introduce her to Rileys music and she just kept asking me if they were going to show his grandpa. That's why people are disliking it.
I just had to bury my Great grandmother Saturday. It definitely hurt, but not as much as seeing the name of the old man next to her in his casket. Man I miss him, he's the only once who taught me to be the man I am.
Skull C. 1001 I hate to hear about your loss man. I understand exactly where you’re coming from it will be a year come August since we laid my grandfather to rest and I miss him every day.
I only have known one of my grandparents from any side. My dads mom is the only one left. She cant hear worth crap. Lol. My granddad died before i was born. The grand dad on my moms side died in 1965 from his tractor running him over. My moms mom died when my mom was 17.
You are so correct, country music used to have stories in it not just songs about drinking and trucks. I am impressed to see a young artist who is singing something with more meaning behind it.
I love how he connects these two lines together “I asked the Lord if just one more time He'd bring my old friend back” and “That old man turned and smiled at me and For a moment I know he knows where we are”. That gave me the chills

Mr. Riley Green you truly know how to write an emotional and honest song. This song and I wish grandpas never died rally hit me hard, and I am thankful for songs like this. Thank you!
My grandfather, the man that taught me to fish and bought my my first rod, loved nascar and dedicated his Sunday’s to watch every race, has dementia and some days I don’t think he even knows who I am. This doing makes me and my dad (his son) cry like babies. Thank you for this song, I hold it so close to my heart

They are 2 different kind of artists. Riley is very traditional. Which is why I love his music. His songwriting is classic story telling like all the greats. Merle and waylon like. But just imagine a tour of luke and riley together.... take my money kind of tour lol
Even if you're not a country fan I don't see how you couldn't like this song. Stories like this is what makes real country music. Some many memories flourish with every chorus. Thank you Riley G.
Cherish your grandparents for sure but also your parents. You never think they will leave this world so soon. My dad and I used to watch Nascar when me and my siblings were kids. He loved Jeff Gordon the most. But he passed away 3 years ago at the young age of 50 from a heart attack and heart failure. I got the call on a Friday and he was in a coma all weekend and we had to take him off from life support on that Monday. I miss him so damn much.

It didnt matter what was going on or who was there it was just good to see him take enjoyment in the teams he knew and loved the most before he passed. Miss you pop.

But even as he got closer to passing away, he would still recognize Johnny Cash's voice when we'd play music for him. What I would give to see that man, healthy and alive. Grandpas are irreplaceable. Wow! This reminds me of my grandmother. She don't know my mom alot of the time, her daughter, but knows the NASCAR drivers and their numbers. Dementia is awful and cruel...😢
John Isaac Davis I love that they shoot at the racetrack , I spent countless hours ’there growing up I’m m sure it helps in the fight to keep the speedway and try to get Nascar attention
Riley green the way you turn a hurtful thing into a good thing gives me hope. Hands down one of the best artists in ( real) country music. This song and Almost are lifelong favorites. Much love. That part ( cause he forgot we layed her down it’ll be a year come June) rocks me to my core man. You’ve literally saved mylife a few times man.
Those of us who have lived with family with dementia and alzheimers understand this song very well. Mr.Green, thank you so much for this song. I listen to it from time to time to help me remember the good days. God bless you and your family, and anyone else dealing with family with memory issues.
This song reminds of my Father in law. He LOVED NASCAR! He new every driver and their number. I'm blessed to have known him and be married to his daughter for almost twenty years! I miss my friend!
This hit me hard my Grampy could tell you everything you could ever need to know about the old shoe factory but he forgets who’s kid I am and he spends 10 minutes staring at the same thing in the grocery store. Dementia is so cruel
Awesome song. Reminds me of my grandpa. He got me I to racing. He was slowly starting to lose his memory before he passed. This song definitely touches my heart.
This song hits me hard my grandfather passed away in 2020 and not from dementia or alzheimers but just by hearing " sitting in his easy chair watching the sunday evening race" or "asked the lord one more time if he bring my old friend back" straight up gives me chills and emotions since he was diehard Nascar fan or any type of racing fan cherish the grandparents you have anyone once they are gone, Hell of a hole your heart will leave for years

I loved this song #NASCAR. Here are the lyrics
Stopped by that house on Nesbit Lake
He's sittin' in his easy chair
Watchin' a Sunday evenin' race
Tells me my grandma's in the other room
Guess he forgot we laid her down
It'll be a year come June
Then he mumbles about Vietnam
He don't know who the hell I am
But the drivers, he tells me who they are
He still knows the numbers on the cars
Try to get him out like we used to
Now I load the truck and I drive the boat
'Cause there ain't much he can do
Cast him a line and watched it as it sank
Thinkin' how we used to talk for hours
Now he just stares at the bank
He used to know every stop in this fishin' hole
Though he probably thinks we're in Mexico
But he knows his way around that boat
Even in the dark
And he still knows the numbers on the cars I know he ain't all there but I don't care
My mind's still full of memories with him
And he may not know all the words to the songs
But he still knows Merle Haggard's voice when he hears it I stopped by that house on Esmond Lake
With a couple of tickets
To go see a Sunday evenin' race
As we watched those cars fly around the track
I asked the Lord for just one more time he'd bring my old friend back
Then somewhere around lap 23.
That old man turned and smiled at me
For a moment I know he knows where we are
'Cause he still knows the numbers
He still knows the numbers
He still knows the numbers, the numbers on the cars
He still knows the numbers
The house is on Nesbit Lake Road, not Esmond Lake. 😀 Just FYI

Yes sir. Digging that bronco and guitar man. One of my favorite tunes of yours
Would have been better if it was a k5 blazer hahah
I asked the lord if just one more time he could bring my old friend back, ain’t that the truth.
I wish grandpas never died ❤️
Wow! This reminds me of my grandmother. She don't know my mom alot of the time, her daughter, but knows the NASCAR drivers and their numbers. Dementia is awful and cruel...😢
He turned around and smiled
Good old Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway everyone does videos there! #NASCAR
Talladega was flimed at the Nashville speedway you can by the track concrete
John Isaac Davis I love that they shoot at the racetrack , I spent countless hours ’there growing up I’m m sure it helps in the fight to keep the speedway and try to get Nascar attention
John Isaac Davis it’s a damn shame that NASCAR doesn’t race there anymore.
Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway is still open, ARCA REMAX Series and late model stock cars have races there.
You made him proud my friend
Those of us who have lived with family with dementia and alzheimers understand this song very well.
Mr.Green, thank you so much for this song. I listen to it from time to time to help me remember the good days.
