I finally got one three months ago and it is the best investment I ever made in a keyboard. It’s phenomenal. I must’ve watched your review 15 times, LOL!
Simply Brilliant Writing and Playing !! (the controller is only as effective as the person controlling it.) World Class, Sir! Thank you so much! You are an absolute master at your craft !!
You know what, as film composer myself I've been looking for the best Midi Controller for a while now, and I must tell you... You decided me... Thank you so much for such a great review!
I just received mine and noticed something that bothers me: there are 40% of the keys do not reach the maximum velocity. Can you tell me please if this happens to you too?
Mr Unwin, what is the source of that gorgeous sound at the 5:39 mark of this video? I need this powerful orchestra for so many pieces. I have watched this video many times. Yours is the best best video demonstration of this Keyboard that is at RUclips. Your note selection along with your incredibly dynamic playing is singularly brilliant. The delicate yet powerful way that you nuanced every space in between the notes and your mastery of this Keyboard is just stunning. I am so grateful to you for making this video.
He is using a library called “Symphobia” by Project Sam. It is the classic go to library for so many composers who have really quick deadlines for tv. You can hear symphobia all over reality tv shows. Such a cool library. It’s possible he might be playing a patch from symphobia 2, but I’m almost positive it’s the original symphobia. Project Sam recently updated the look of all of their symphobia libraries, so they look different than the one on his screen. But, I promise he is playing Symphobia. You can find some long walkthrough videos of Symphobia 1 and 2 by different people on RUclips 👍
Hello Studiologic...I was ready to purchase the SL88 GRAND keyboard on Amazon and then I checked the product ratings of some customers and discovered that the SL88 GRAND keybed has poor quality. Since the SL88 GRAND has been out for at least 4 years already, I would like to know when StudioLogic plans to release the next SL88 GRAND Mk II. I can wait for that or I can purchase the current model but I need to know if the SL88 GRAND keybed issues have been resolved and the production quality is secured! Please advise.
What's frustrating is THEY DON'T SAY ANYTHING. There's no update in months on the website, all they have is the videos where they proclaim how amazing and advanced they are. This SL88 could be the most popular 88 key controller BY FAR due to the feel of the TP/40WOOD, but nobody can trust that the keys won't go defective and the screen won't dim and all the same issues we keep hearing. Even if there IS an issue, the overwhelming response is that customer service is non-existent. STUDIOLOGIC: We understand that the virus has impscted production in Italy and we can be patient with waiting for units to ship, BUT--Post something that tells us all that you are figuring issues out and the new post-corona units will be awesome as far as reliability.
@@JPDC624 Agreed. I just had mine shipped and two of the keys (A0 and F3) click as if something in the key was broken or loose. I will share that the key bed feels absolutely amazing. I've played on a lot of keyboards and grand pianos and this is the best key bed I've felt yet on a keyboard. It's just disconcerting that mine has this clicking issue after 3 days and the support page on the website directs you to some distributor I've never heard of... hopefully the vendor I purchased it through will address it. I got it through Sweetwater
Alex Liggett that’s where I just ordered mine, Sweetwater. I figure they provide a 2 year warranty with their tech shop so that’s the least risk. Can’t wait to feel the action! Glad you like it, I’m sure I will too.
@@JPDC624 Nice! Update, their tech team is already on it and all I had to do was text my sales person. I definitely enjoyed my experience with them thus far. I had to wait a while since it was on back order (what with COVID impacting Italy and all).

Hello my friend I already bought the studiologic sl88 studio, I got yesterday from thomann, the truth is that I really like the keyboard, could you tell me in which part of the editor of sl, I can change the sensitivity of the keys to be able to play without doing so much force? for work in cubase
Mr. Unwin, this review helps a lot. Wanting something that will track piano extremely well, ability to 1/2 pedal with aftertouch. The question is have you also played or tracked with the studio version of the SL88 which is the TP/100LR vs. the tp/40wood? and if so what are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.
Hi, I bought the studiologic sl88 studio, and when using the stick number 2, there are instruments like trumpets violins etc of kontact, that I perceive hardly any modulation when moving it, and in the vst of synths nexus refx either. The keyboard I'm using with the factory configuration, I have to modify something in the section of the sticks, for me to work the modulation in the vsts?thanks
I love how all the questions are directed at Mr. Unwin instead of Studiologic. With that being said this is directed at Studiologic. Is the keybed the same in the sl88 grand and the new Numa x piano?
Mr Unwin, first of all you got me sold on the unit but the sounds you've chosen to demonstrate this unit was much more impressive than the unit itself (please no offense StudioLogic) .. I'm a guitar player and not so fluent on studio as much as piano guys and I wish you could lead us on how to create those terrific sounds and how and what are they with a separate video.. and surely lots of musicians would appreciate it. I will subscribe your channel and wait for a video that shows those multilayered sounds you generally use.. Appreciate it.
He is using a library called Symphobia by Project Sam. It’s a classic tv composer library and has been for over 10 years…and still sounds fantastic. He is playing the old version of symphobia (I can see it on the far right of his monitor). Project Sam recently updated the way the symphobia libraries look and they EQ’d them a bit as well. I’m almost positive he was playing patches from symphobia, but symphobia 2 also has some similar sounding patches. Symphobia 3 is very focused on fantasy sounds and Symphobia 4 is focused on more intense/thriller/sci fi sounds I think.😊
Nice demo! I'm going to be getting a nicer controller keyboard for my studio and this one keeps ending up at the top of the list. (My current M-Audio Keystation-88 is just not very inspiring to play! ;-)
I have the M-Audio Prokeys 88 and it is just unpleasant. It actually makes me NOT want to play. Hence the reason I'm checking into other controllers like the SL88 Grand.
I've since purchased a used Roland A-88 keyboard for a good price ($560 shipped) and so far I really like it but I'm in the middle of a major studio reorganization and some other "life" stuff so I've hardly had a chance to really try it out. My normal dealer hadn't got the SL88 Grand in yet so I took a chance on the eBay deal. I recommend you try out both of these and other options before you buy if possible. I'm going to make a good go of the A-88 for the next year, unless I get a chance to try out the SL88 somewhere and fall in love. ;-)
Have you ever played a Roland Juno DS88? It has the same action as the A-88 minus the "escapement" feature of the A-88. I ask because I bought a Juno DS88 last year and returned it because the keys transferred too much energy back into my hands, which I knew would cause problems over time. I'm looking at the A-88, Casio Privia PX-5S or the Studiologic SL88 Grand. I'm more interested in the PX-5S and SL88 Grand but wonder how people feel any of these work with virtual instruments such as Omnisphere, Vienna Symphonic Library and Toontrack Superior Drummer. Thanks!
I've never played a Roland Juno DS88. I still haven't spent a lot of time with the A-88 but I've gotten a bit of regular practice in lately with a metronome and I feel my playing in improving. (maybe it's just the structured practice or that I'm not very good so there is a lot of room for easy basic improvement? ;-) I think the A-88 action is a bit on the heavy/sluggish side but it's been a long time since I've played an acoustic piano to compare to and have been just playing crummy to OK synth keyboards for many years. For instance it's just too slow to play fast staccato notes on the same key like you can on an organ or synth keyboard. I still think the SL88 Grand might of had a better feel to me but I have read about sever quality control issues and I was a bit turned off by the little joy sticks on it. (I don't like the Roland lever either and wish it had wheels)
Thanks for replying! I have a feeling, based on what you and others have said regarding the A-88 action that it is similar to the Juno DS88 action. I spoke with Roland's keyboard technical support a few months ago and he said the Juno DS88 and A-88 are very similar in feel. The A-88 seems like a good choice depending how you play but I couldn't get the Juno DS88 to do fast repetitions for drum VSTis so this has me concerned. However, Eric Persing of Spectrasonics told me on their Facebook page that he highly recommends the A-88 for Keyscape and Omnisphere. They use the A-88 in all their Keyscape demos when they need an 88-key controller. It all depends on your preferences I suppose. I think I've narrowed it down to the PX-5S and SL88 Grand! Thanks!
@@AnthonyWoodruffe But the SL88 is TP40 WOOD not TP100. Unless maybe you're talking about the Studio version. I am also stuck between KK S88 or the SL S88.
