Bravo 👏 nice to see some of the original band ! Make me cry 😢 memories 👍🏼
Just like 1969 fabulous!!!
This melody so original and l like to listen
Michael Shreive is still amazing!
Que viva santana
When Gregg Rolie is smiling - You know everything is right in this world. Wish I could have been there.
Rolie is a monster of a player and as you have astutely observed his smile betrays the bands mood and his own pat on the back for himself. Take a look at Woodstock at the end of S Sacrifice.. awesome .
Thats not him. He left the band ages ago an joined Journey where he became more popular an successful
Yep, I know , he and Schon left after Caravansersai late 72...but hook up for reunions such as these which is great to see. Rolie has some good solo projects too.
@@daviddigital6887Of course it is Gregg Rolie playing the keyboard, just 50 years older, and Michael Shrieve on drums. (Read the description of the video)
Mike Shrieve made history with the woodstock performance. One of the best drum performances live ever!!!
Michael, once a badass always a badass. Such a kickass drummer! Go Michael, Love your solo!
Mike Shrieve still has the same expression as when he played at Woodstock. Almost 50 years later.
agreed and also Greg Rollie same expressions
Bless him baby face still got it awsome ❤❤🎉
Yo tenía ¹3 años me encantan
So cute,love those expressions 😂❤❤
Michael Shrieve OMG just kills it as in 1969!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Didn't care much for Carlos lead parts.
Say what you want, but they killed it. Great music from the 60s will never die.
This is not drumming...this is poetry..time has failed to tire shreive's hands and his sublime skill.45 years has turned shrieve untouchable..he is 'the drummer" amongst all drummers.
good to see Micheal on drums...
AGREED! Superb drummer!
It has to be said, Michael Shrieve is a very underrated drummer. He never lost his touch.
No he has'nt not 1 bit!
He is still great, another overlooked survivor like Carl Palmer, young at the time of fame and both still slapping them today 👏👏👏✌️
This is music history in the making. 🎉
Santana after many years reunites the original band- and it is as if no time has passed.
The ecstatic energy once again flows unhindered.
The marriage of Afro-Cuban rhythms and percussion to blues based rock and jazz.
With Carlos guitar front and center, sending beautiful melodies and dynamic statements as love letters to the universe.
Greggs wonderful organ sounds soothing the soul.
Michael Shrieve and all of you, we love you forever- eternally. 🕉
They caught lightning in a bottle a Woodstock. That performance will never be equaled. It is possibly the best live performance EVER.
The following year at Tanglewood was just as good if not better IMO
@@pumpkinking5174 agreed. I love Woodstock but damn, tanglewood gets me groovin too.
@@pumpkinking5174 I've never seen the Tanglewood performance, is it on RUclips?
What ' s fantastic's solo with Drums from MIchael Shrieve..!
NOW THIS IS SANTANA
Carlos, Shrieve, Schon, & Rolie !!!!!!!!!!!!
Michael Freaking Shrieve.........................Bravo, after 50 years.
that song rocked at Woodstock ... I can still remember that conga and the drummer Mike Schrive, what a blast !
Shrieve and Carbello, have not lost a lick, just great musicians.
Michael Shrieve’s solo at Woodstock is still one of the greatest drum solos of all times for a lot reasons, including his age and the circumstances the band were playing under. Still sounding great here though.
He always plays great ; a master of his craft !
Michael Shrieve, fab drum solo!
50 years, Mike!
All time favorite drum solos.
A lot of "star" drummers of today would have liked to be as impeccable as Michael Shrieve is, close to his seventies. Respect, sir.
I'm old enough to remember Woodstock. I've been listening to Carlos for a good while. I don't care who you are, the opening of this tune will grab ya!
Damn right. I'm only 34 years old and this has to be one of my favorite songs. Tanglewood performance is my favorite. My parents were only 10 years old at the time haha. God what an amazing performance.
It will always grab you!!! The band was magnificent then; now !!!
Shrieve is still as good as he was at Woodstock in 1969. Amazing!!!
Although I wasn't there, after watching this I found myself screaming for more! And Micheal Shrieve...wow!
Is it just me or does Carlos feel more comfortable and loose here than on his regular solo tours/shows?. He's on fire here, playing feels more fluid, maybe its because its some of the original band that he's playing with here.? Oh and Shrieve's still got it-badass !!
I thought the same! Quite enjoyed the looseness though, reminded me of the woodstock preformance.
His current wife has loosen him up! Lol
Mike Shrieve was 19 years old at Woodstock and blew everyone off the stage. This is rock at its best.

Mike Shreve is one of the best drummers I've ever heard. He deserves much more recognition then he has. His drumming was just explosive and dynamic and soul moving....
@@christinehammons4467 "WAS" He mellowed out, that's unfortunate. His age has nothing to do with it
@@m42037 unfortunately you are right. I've watched some performances of his in the last 10 years and he lost that explosiveness that I love so much. But I still will always remember him at his Peak around 1970. At that time he was one of the world's best drummers. His style reminds me of Mitch Mitchell's from Jimi Hendrix! and what beautiful form he played with using traditional grip
@@christinehammons4467 Idk what happened to him. As i said age doesn't do much unless you have arthritis or something. Buddy Rich played explosive into his 70s before he died. Take a look at Carl Palmer, he's still fantastic after 50 years!
michael shrieve .carlos santana,, greg rollie...........bring it back home...musicians who made it through the trenches of life you bring us home together. thank you.
WE'VE PLAYED THESE GREAT SONGS FOR DECADES ON STAGE AND PEOPLE GO CRAZY FOR IT ALL THE TIME!!!
BACK TO EARLY 1971 - 1972 NEVER FORGET .....S A N T A N A. BEST OF THE BEST
the drummer is a beast
Always has been !!!!
Benny Rietveld is currently the bass player for Carlos Santana, and has been with him for over 25 years. Raise on Oahu.. Went to McKinley High School and U of Hawaii.. We are very proud of Benny.. Please enjoy a fantastic bass player and true Hawaiian..
Original members and the sound santana thanks Woodstock 1969
Yes indeed. He’s great.
Michael Shrieve on drums - YES!!!!!!!
Monster!
Great Drummer forever
The best soundtrack to chat about the Woodstock effect, giving artists this precise spirit, the freedom to be themselves, that is why, we need to recall the times, we need new Woodstock events to give new young performers the chance to bring new inspirations, someone up there Is capable to reward this artistic honesty, Woodstock performers they all became. . Best music icons ever, we need to follow. ..facts fans
Michael Shrieve, impresionante e increíble como siempre....
this drummer is a beasttttttttttt
I think it’s safe to say Michael Schrieve still has it! 👍👍👍👍
yea, has for years.
Fantastic... just goes to show after 40 years you still absolutely have it down. God bless🙏
same drummer from 50 years ago, omg!! It will never get better than this. Gracias!
Still one of the most awesome songs without vocals to ever hit the air waves. Mas Mas Carlos. Yea!
I am 67 years old and Woodstock happened just when I was getting into music.
The whole thing I remember most about Santana at Woodstock was the drum solo by that young bloke in Soul Scarifcie.
I tell you, it almost bought tears to my eyes when I saw the drummer in this concert twas HIM !!!!
That is the young bloke but now old like me!!!!!
Watching this concert made me feel so happy I nearly cried.
Thank Santana for keeping such a great drummer all these years.
Damn, that IS Mike Shrieve!
My god!!!! he can still drum the hell out of those skins. When they were at Woodstock, back in 69, I couldn't believe how good he was then, afterall, he was only 17. Still Brilliant!!!! as ever.
He was actually 20 at Woodstock. Still a great drummer at that age
Didn't the Beatles write a song about " he was just 17 if you know what I mean " ? Auctually Michael Shrieve will be 70 years old in 5 days from today ( Saturday July 6th 2019 ) Happy Birthday Michael to one of the baddest dude on drums in the San Mateo/ San Francisco Penninsula.Wake up Eastbay that's what I said !!
Love Santana and the drummer Michael ♥️
I can't believe they finally had the real Santana band back together and then Carlos blew it by only having them do 3 shows before going back to his crappy modern day band.
I saw them a few years ago and the show was advertised as having the original band. But no, it was the lame modern lineup. Doobie Brothers blew them off the stage
Still gives me chills. Saw them (original lineup) in the early '70's. Michael rocks!
The original band members sound badass, they kick more power than all the other sit ins
dit is de absolute top in "live performance" ; inzonder Michael Schrieve : op Woodstock was hij " outstanding", maar hij heeft niets verloren van zijn kunde ! Kippevel muziek!!!!
The Woodstock version is the best of Soul Sacrifice.
Well, they were young & stoned!!! 🤪
@@z-bopunlimited4097 - more like mescaline.😁
@@z-bopunlimited4097 Now they are old and stoned 😆
@@kevinc.8869 Yep
@@z-bopunlimited4097 Stoned Immaculate!
Those of us around back then yearn for homage to the 70’s. But Carlos has earned the right to do any damn thing he wants to do.
Simply doesn't get any better than that.
MICHAEL SHRIEVE....THE BEST.
All VETERAN of the legendary WOODSTOCK, see how they play their instruments, best band of all time, best PERCUSSION, DRUMMER of all time
It never sounded any better than this. A great performance................Wowwww. Taking over for Raul Rekow is no easy task. Karl Perrrazo is an animal on those timbales.
Plenty smiles on stage and (probably) no LSD. Great version.
47 years later, God bless them!
the "Old" Carlos Santana "Combo" from Woodstock with Michael Shriver and friends are today still fantastic !!!!!
Carlos, I hope you know that the drummer made you famous in 69' . the greatest drum solo of that time.
OMG!michael shrieve STILL rockim"it!!!!!!!!!
THIS was some album - 1969 when the world met Santana.
How great was that!!
Still sounds great after all these years.
KEEP THAT GOIN
Unbelievable 3 of them played at Woodstock
4 of them here played Woodstock.
Damn, it’s a shame David Brown passed in 2000. Would love for him to be with the originals in this performance.
Looking for that comment.
At 72 Santana's music takes me back to a time when I was young and in love. 54 years later I am old but still in love with the same girl I fell in love so long ago or was it yesterday?
That is awesome for you
My first heroes , Gregg Rollie , Carlos Santana, Mike Carabello, Michael Shierve
I have been fortunate enough to have seen SANTANA Live four times over four decades....Legendary.
Carlos has better tone on this than he has had since 1980. The old band is making him play like he did back in the day, and it's fantastic.
It’s the ol Boogie.....a kicking amp...am a lucky owner of one of the hand signed ones meself....
@@sheercerebralpower Not only playing Mesa Boogie (king snake amp) but also Dumbles and Bludotone
@@q2w3bn876 yeah, those are great too....I have one of em.....
II Like the the tone he got with that SG better. Sharp and piercing got my attention from the very first note.
@@Zulumann25 I agree, that and the Yamaha were both far better than a PRS.
That moment in the video when I realized that's Michael Carabello on congas and Michael Shrieve on drums--OMGosh!!!! MS's drum solo arguably was the highlight of the Woodstock film and really propelled the launch of Santana's career!
Carlos was the best guitarist ever!! Combine that with the drums and Congos and it's magic!! Nothing better!! Love this my whole life!! I find things like bongos, organs, and saxophone a loft art! That's what is missing in music today!! We had the best music of our time. I feel young again when I listen to it, it just transportse back to the best times of my life
Those drum fills were sick
Don't forget Greg ob keys too
Super Great Drum Solo Michael Shrieve !
John Corsaro , it is the original drummer of Woodstock
3:58 Michael Shrieve's drum performance makes a soul sound.
Carlos didn't want a drum solo. How sad. Heard that in a Michael Shreive interview.!!!!
@@pauldaley6382 Unbelievable!!!
The band takes a real pleasure to play...
Desconocía esta versión, es fantástico ver juntos a Santana, Rolie, Carabello y por supuesto a Michael Shrieve interpretando la canción que ha marcado mi vida. Qué les puedo decir: gracias por tanto!!!! Soul sacrifice siempre!!!
The drummer, the legend
I agree Michael Shrieve is AWESOME!!!!!!!
1st time at Woodstock Santana played this hit tune very famous & Santana became famous great job 👏.
Mike Shrieves AGAINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!! After yearsssssss!!! Wow!!
The Drummer!!!!!!
I was just thinkin' the same thing! I heard it and said "wait a minute....". I actually looked at the description on the post and there he was! 'Course, this was years ago, too. Hmmm....that part sucks. Peace.
@@fredflintstone2958 Is this the same drummer at Woodstock? 17 year old?
@@MrSahansdal Sure was. He looks WAY different, of course. Then again, didn't we all....
Neal Schon, Gregg Rolie & Michael Carabello have my vote whew!! 🥵!
what a delight to hear this masterpiece ... masterful !!! Santana the messiah of rock n roll for Latinos
When first heard and viewed Santana and group doing this tune on a video of Woodstock it was magical cause do remember one of our small city of 4000 in Texas did a rendition of this classic tune, although to see it done 40 + years later is just if more magical. Have read about how Santana started and teamed up with this guitarist extronaire other classic musicians, as so we're all the musicians back in the sixties as are just as today sound outstandingly awesome extrodaire. Carlos put one fantastic group of musicians to a level of class and Hispanic rock n roll jazz blue style that has been profoundly still listenable and danceable to this year of 2020 and surely beyond. Awesome Carlos and my hat is off to you and band with a excited bow for the music of its own BRAVO 💥🙏
The magic of Santana , knowing when to start and stop playing guitar, I remember just playing endlessly in the 70s 🙌🇬🇧❤️
The first album I ever bought in my life I think I was like 13 or 14 years old and I’ve had the big lion with all the faces hidden in it and to this day that is still one of my favorite albums of all time I played the drums and I try to play everything they were playing on my little kid couldn’t do it but it was fun trying it’s nice to see Greg in the video To me you will always be the voice of Santana
The spirit of 1969 Woodstock is back. Viva Santana.
These are the cats I grew up with. It doesn't get any better than Santana.
The drummer ... saw him from woodstock 69 clip...wow
That was awesome Michael shrieve
Love seeing Greg Rolle
que nivel de músicos ....por dios ,escuchar esto en un mundo tan perverso ,es una las cosas que da ganas de vivir
Shrieve switched to a matching grip, possibly to accommodate newer equipment, Still just as awesome as usual.
I noticed that too. :)
Yeh I just noticed as well.. still one badass drummer
I love that there are no words, so that I can have my own interpretation of the music 🎵🎶🙏💚🌍🌏🌎🎵🎶
great mike shrieve
At Woodstock this song was on fire. Carlos was tripping and everything was spontaneous and on burning like there was no tomorrow. In this version it seems more like he is going through the motions and making sure to hit all the cliches and saving up for a rainy day.
I think they all played really good but the sound engineer or whoever it is wanted to show all of them at the same time, creating just noises. Anyway, thank you for uploading this
Interesting commentary, I thought I needed my ears checked lol
This drum solo brought me to tears. Amazing
Best ever.!!!!!!
Michael Shrieve 💓
Carlos Santana living legend. The best of the best.
Great Band , Respect at the master drums
*CARLOS SANTANA, ÚNICO, INCOMPARABLE.*
I now own 132ac. In Woodstock My parents were there. I wish they would be here instead. Respect
No ones said it yet but im really sorry you lost them
