A minor correction to what you've said there. USA CORPORATIONS moved productions of most of your needs to other countries for cheap labor not just the USA, the USA & its political class and presidency were lobbied, were paid big bucks by these corporations to allow free-world trade agreements like for ex. GATT in 1994. There's an interview of James Goldsmith from 1994 arguing against this move, a very prophetic one.

Some countries like China, Russia, India, USA and Indonesia can produce and fulfill their own needs because they have everything from natural resources to agriculture products.
The problem is price disparities between countries. Products in USA will have higher prices. Then why would US produce everything by himself?
The second, in energy sector, we fail to cope with climate crisis problem that need cooperation among nations. Also some scientific work to solve social economic and humanitarian problems will be slowing down.
Cooperation and friendship among nations need understanding and respect. USA will not happy if Russian put missiles in Cuba and Russia will get angry if US arming groups in Ukraine to attack Russian. This basic concept must be understood by everyone of us and force politicians to behave accordingly to have a good future.

My husband owned a manufacturing plant here in the U.S. After he died, my stepson now runs it. I remember how often it would be to receive parts that had problems and didn't work well. Sometimes companies sold out to larger ones and the new owners weren't commited to quality. Sometimes the government made changes to influence climate change and required us to look for new parts.Other times we had to ask the manufacturer to modify the product to fit our needs. It was an ongoing problem and so frustrating.

Not really. Let's say your country is completely self sufficient in food. You have no import contracts with other countries, because you don't need them. Great! That is... Until bird flu or potato blight 2.0 strikes and now you're screwed because there's no plan B. Global trade has been the best thing to ever happen for humanity's food security.

@@thaliacrafts407 Self-sufficiency, to me, means taking care of just the basic needs. It does not include all wants. Growing enough potato to feed the citizens of a country does not mean that they ONLY eat potatoes. They may be importing other foods. They may be even importing extra (or different) potatoes. Finally, not every country can be self-sufficient. But if a country can be self-sufficient but does provide the mechanism to do so for its citizens, then they are doing a disservice to the fellow countrymen.

A greater degree of self-sufficiency and self-production is probably going to be the rule for a lot of developed countries going forward, so think of it as Russia getting a head start on that. Here in the US we are experiencing the highest inflation in 30 years, which the government is 1) intentionally underestimating and 2) telling us is a "Putin price hike" cause by the war in Ukraine. But most people in the financial world know it existed long before that, and is a result of the money-printing we've been doing for the past 14 years, which we increased manifold during the pandemic did to keep the economy afloat. A lot of countries did the same, and this flood of currency is now catching up with the West in general. It's going to dampen international trade generally, probably for several years. The Japanese did something similar in the 1990's and the result was a 20-year recession they call "the lost decades."

Ksenia, I really enjoyed this vlog today. I found your information and opinions interesting and logical. It's always a good idea for a country to be more self sufficient than to rely on foreign countries for its supplies. Many countries now worldwide are slowly realizing that they are too dependent on China for important products. I remember years ago when my sisters were in college that they couldn't afford the clothes that they desired as they were too expensive. They were able to buy some patterns from a fabric store and altered them to styles that they liked and then made them on my mother's sewing machine. They found that they improved as they continued doing this and their friends were so surprised that the clothes that they made looked like they came from expensive dress shops. 👍👗 🤣. It does require having the time available to do this but it may be something that you could consider. I don't know how easy it is to find a good sewing machine in St. Petersburg or if they are expensive. 🤔. By the way, I think blue is a great color for you as it matches your beautiful eyes. You looked really pretty today while you were walking around that attractive residential area. 👍😊. I think today is Palm Sunday in the Orthodox Church and Easter next Sunday? It's Easter here today in the West. Take care and have a pleasant and rewarding week. Your American friend from Virginia. 🤗❤🙏🌎

Yes times are changing and they say we should adapt to the change, it will be hard but we can do it. Just stay positive and hope for the best around the world, before I leave this note I want to say that we are all beautiful inside. You can learn to alter ready-made clothes to fit you better, but that does take some "fussing" (experimentation) for those of us who have not studied professional tailoring. My best successes have been finding something from my closet that fits well and then tracing that for the pattern for something new.

For decades there has been a Russian program to offer funding and facilities to experts around the world to produce their products in Russia and to teach the Russian technicians how these things are made. It saves what is called 'reverse engineering' - trying to guess and work out how a product was made. Cheeses, wines, anything you can think of. At least these programs have kept the skills alive unlike the rising problem in the West due to Reaganomics and Thatcherisim where the companies moved to China, India and other places with the skills slowly lost at home due to the experts getting old and dying.

Glad to see you and hear your thoughts. On a light note I so relate to you on clothing. I too am not slim. In the US clothing for plump women is called “plus size”. It is better than it used to be but the selection for larger ladies is less than for slim women. I find it frustrating to shop for clothes. However you look very good . And you are rocking that blue hat. Brings out your eyes. 🌸🌸🌸👋👋😎

I think with the food you will be fine. Russia can produce enough for it's people. As far as the clothing, you will probably have to take good care of what you have. Hopefully after a few years maybe some russian clothing companies might get better.. You are a very smart person and I feel for you. I think your countries biggest problem is many young computer techs have left Russia to build a new life in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan who are welcoming them with open arms. Your country doesn't deserve you. You are special!

I think you need to find a seamstress who could take some patterns and modify them for you. I'm 72 and for years I couldn't find clothes for older women. The clothing wasn't something I felt comfortable wearing. I finally found some online manufacturers but even then I wasn't completely satisfied. I do wear them and am glad to have them though. Americans used to make our clothes but now they are imported. The quality and tailoring is not the same.

An interesting video. I was curious about the location of your video; it had the appearance of what a typical "Industrial Park" would look like in many American cities. Wondering if that was an "Industrial" area? In this context, "Industrial" doesn't necessarily mean heavy factories, but they can be places where you have many small businesses, entrepreneurs, and small cap companies. There was one point in your video where you used the word "skeptical" and you seem to want to search for another word, but actual you already had (in my view) the right word for that thought you were attempting to convey. Lastly, in the beginning of this video, there was a capture of a KFC establishment. Were they operating? I am under the impression that some franchised establishments are not affected by the sanctions.

I understand where the video was taken. The geographical center of St. Petersburg, next to the Neva embankment, the very beginning of Piskarevsky Prospekt. This is a residential area. The houses in the background are apartments for permanent residence and its new buildings. Most of the surrounding buildings - 60-70 years of the 20th century. 100 meters away is the office of Yandex Corporation in St. Petersburg (the main competitor of Google in Russia, has analogues of basic services, such as mail, maps, search and many of its developments, for example, a global marketplace similar to Amazon) Directly on the embankment there were manufactories built in Tsarist Russia, at the beginning of the 20th century. There are historical buildings there. KFC franchisees work in most locations in St. Petersburg, but almost all of McDonald's has closed.

Ksenia I too enjoy your channel very much and I truly wish you all the best during these difficult times. I think the sanctions will be the least of your problems. I fear that more and more of your freedoms will be taken away and I fear the implementation of a new iron curtain like government may be in your future especially if this special operation (war) continues to escalate. History has shown that events like this have many unintended consequences. I wish you well. be safe.

Important for the west and global south to know and meet young people from Russia!! You have great knowledge and conscience about true realities of that world the US wants to crush and authiritively undermine and make disappear.
We in the global south support you all in Russia.

It's interesting to hear your perspective of Russian business and industry especially since you have much experience working in these areas. I suspect that other priorities became highlighted after 2008 when NATO made noises about inducting Georgia and Ukraine into that organization and greater emphasis went into military preparation. After the U.S. led coup in Ukraine in 2014 and the annexation of Crimea, sanctions became more intense and Russia started to take local development more seriously. Efforts were made to repatriate much of the money that Russian oligarchs had been draining from the economy and agricultural development took on a new importance. Of course, the current military confrontation takes a very high position in the to-do list now since Russia cannot allow the U.S. through its European allies to strangle it and threaten its very existence and attempt to cut it off from important Eurasian trade agreements like the Belt and Road Initiative. As you said, Russia has great economic potential, but it's going to take a little longer than hoped for while the proxy fight with the U.S. is still being waged in Ukraine.

Great video. My wife and I find your videos very educational and very good. Thank you. We watched the full 24:12 with a couple of rewinds. My wife thought you were walking past 1 building many times. I needed to rewind to show her it was a different building. She thought one building as there are a lot of similar looking apartment buildings. I imagine all designed by the same company, perhaps designed similarly to lower construction costs.

My dear lady, please try to not be too discouraged. These ridiculous sanctions are shaping up to hurt us at least as much if not more than they hurt Russia. I detest the fact that our leaders have such irrational hatred for our Russian brothers and sisters. But my interactions with Russians tell me that you are a strong and resourceful people and very grounded.
I have strong faith in your ability to persevere and come out stronger than before. I know that you are quite capable of making quality products (some of the best vacuum tubes in the world are Russian for example). As you said it takes time but you will overcome.
I pray for your people daily and I pray also that someday we can have friendly relationships between our countries.

Dear Ksenia, thanks for sharing us what you think , feel and got as experience in the real economic.
I come to conclusion that there is disproportion mainly betwen some industry needs and indutry realised projects ...and on the 2nd place not so easy for well qualified people to find a job in some specific areas of Russian economy. Lack of many dress opportunity I do nt count as a big problem :)
I would like to share my thoughts about 2 of your concerns . If as your President said in the future Russia is going to try to revive the potencial of the industry and respectivelly start selling more products with added value then may be the 1st concern will be eliminated . The second one - when there is disbalance betwen what people have as education / qualification and so ... and what the industry need then that could be fixed as some programs of pre-qualifications , some stright connections betwen the industry & the univercities in Russia. I mean the industry should strart investing in long terms in creating environment for young people to implement their potencial. And here motivation do not have to be only money but as well so many things.
We will see :) My hopes are that the right steps are going to be made.
    Kind regards from Bulgaria

I think it is better than buying " new" clothes all the time and filling the landfills.
