I was a police officer in a college town from late 67 to 89. Can't count the number of overdose deaths I went to. All young. John does a great job on this Hoyt Axton tune.

John's been one of my favorites since I was young. Mom came from Germany shortly before John for the opportunities here. I'm glad shes not here to see the current state of things.
Over 40 years in fire. EMS, tech rescue, dive team, chaplains corp., etc. on top of my 'real job' travelling nine states fixing industrial and institutional boilers, furnaces, chillers, coal mine ventilation, etc.
Most of my public service was volunteer- sometimes 300+ hours a month to keep the trucks manned.
Too many bags with zippers, mangled bodies, dissolved lives -----
Didn't really have organized cisd back then did have Jack, Jim, Turkey, Steppenwolf, Yes, Zeppelin, and nights around the campfires.
By God's Grace we made it.

Atta boy, men ; ALL together, in expressing the emotions, of those wonderfull, TRUE LYRICS . Good work Mr John Kay, and your lifes' work, of ' giving ' ! WOW. Band for the ages , as well as 3 Dog Night, Boston, James Gang, 5 man Electrical Band, some of Paul McCartneys' early 70' s stuff....Steve Miller Band, James Last Orchestra, Mitch Miller, and an extended list, of hundreds of others. Mr. Perez, guitar of THE MAVERICKS, another grand - master, of this as well.......anyway....

Great clip, Kayodleman. Thanks for posting a great memory of mine. Musically, the years between '68 - '73 were awesome. We had a local college radio station at Wake Forest (the 1st FM station - after 11pm) that played deep cuts. They were albums, front to back with no commercials. My older brother and I listened to (and taped on a reel to reel) some music that changed our lives. This was one of them. Thanks again!

Growing up as a military brat 71-72 living on Incirlik AFB Adana Turkey there was one television channel & there were music videos done by bands or perhaps by the servicemen who ran the television broadcasts... Anyway there was a video done for this song that still runs through my mind... For those who don't know in that time snow was slang for heroin not cocaine... And with all the poppy fields around Turkey & the hash dens I'm sure this song was chosen for a video on the military television programming in the hope of preventing even just one more young serviceman becoming snow-blind...

From Lp's, to 8-tracks, to cassettes, to cd's... Now back to LP's again. Still gives me the same feelings as it first did when I heard songs on AM radio...If their music comes out on a new medium, will have it, too...

Such a great song in the 70s lots of snowblind young people like that me being one , I'm lucky I had lots of support but it was still very hard , When I hear this song it reminds me of the Meth I was addicted too I can remember the smell and the taste, It took my life over , I'm so glad for having help seeing other people dying running this shit up, It's terrible lives destroyed.

A one of a kind tune in an earlier place and time performed by Steppenwolf , aka Joachim Fritz Krauledat, born in Tilsit, East Prussia, immigrated to Waterloo, Ontario ,Canada, and started musically in a band called the Sparrows.

This song makes me think of Janis Joplin...on her first trip out to California all her friends put her on a bus back home to Texas, scared she would die..she did try to get her life straight..but California and the drugs were too strong a pull, and we know what happened. I think this so was just so pertinent to the times. Young talented people dying left, right and centre.
