Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, and flight to the imagination.
And Jazz Music, the original American art form, has a deep and prosperous connection to our great city of Chicago.More than 100 years ago, Louis Armstrong arrived in Chicago and forged the path of jazz forever. And since 1969 the Jazz Institute of Chicago has been the prominent force in promoting and nurturing jazz throughout our city.
This not for profit organization’s staff and board work tirelessly year round to ensure jazz remains not only relevant and thriving, but is a conduit to better our communities, educational systems, and our collective cultures.
The jazz institute of Chicago produces or sponsors Dozens of free concerts and happenings throughout the year gathering our communities into our neighborhood parks, top notch jazz venues, schools and institutions all to celebrate and enjoy some of the best jazz music in the country.
Jazz Institute of Chicago facilitates special grants that allow an artist to access resources giving them the space and tools to hone their craft, strengthen their careers, and pursue exciting jazz projects for us all to experience.For youth, Engagement in the arts encourages a lifelong application of creative thinking, empathy, and the power of understanding the human spirit.
The Jazz Institute of Chicago educational programs provide an ever-growing community of teachers and students through collaboration, learning, professional development and direct connections to Chicago’s rich jazz legacy.
Programs like Jazz Links Let Freedom SwingJazz in the Chi And The Kiewit-Wang Mentorship Award are just some of the programs that make the Jazz Institute of Chicago a powerful force in youth education in Chicago.
