You use the right tool for what ever job you're trying to do. depends on what ever type of operating you intend to do. I have many Ham friends here in Plano with an antenna in the attic.

Jerry, how is that ham 4 held up there? Is there a plate of some kind or a mount? Thank you

Sorry for just now responding to your question. That is actually a Yaesu G-800 DXA Rotator. As long as I keep the masts very short, there is no problem. The MA-40 has a square plate welded at the top of the mast. The holes were not perfectly aligned and I had to do a little widening, reaming out, of two of the holes to get the rotator to match. Just a MM or two. I've cranked it over dozens of times with no ill effect.

I purchased a 3-section tubular tower (Manufacturer unknown) that I am guessing is over 50ft when fully extended. I have replaced the lay over winch with a worm gear model (can raise lower with a big drill) and will do the same with the extender winch. My question to you is, what is that collar called that fits around the tubular portion that the lay-over winch connects to? My pipe is 4-1/2" diameter and have not had luck in finding one. Thanks, W5LF

I need no gym membership. I just work out cranking that thing up and down. ;)

For such windy area, you should have stepped up to the heavier model.

This is Texas. The southern end of Tornado Alley. A heavier model to withstand 80 MPH straight line winds or 120 MPH EF1 does not exist. Tnx es 73 de KD5OM

I've been considering the MA40 off and on for almost 10-years. The cost of this rig is deceiving when you first look at the various parts. I figure by the time you purchase the MARB base and two section mast, and other parts your 3k. I have some limitations so I would definitely hire a contractor so there's another 3-4k for materials and labor.

Yeah, My wife said, "All that expense to talk to people you don't know. Why don't you just call them on the phone?"

averages $1,565.00 for tower not counting antennas. Then whatever cost of cement in your area cost. Not that much really cheaper than most regular towers.
