LET’S TALK ABOUT THE PRICE THEN SHALL WE? It’s strange that a piece of gear can be so divisive and cause negativity within the community, so I thought I better say a few words about it. Yes, this item is prohibitively expensive for most people, and I’m certainly not going say you must immediately go out and buy it: only you can know if you can afford it. However, I would like to say something that I feel has been missing from conversations on this product, and that is: you’re paying for miniaturisation of technology. Whenever a device with a lot of features is put in a small housing, costs rise as custom parts are often required. The XY also has a best-in-class battery life - If TE brought out a device with the same features but in a housing 4 times as large, and mains powered, there’s no way it’d be this expensive.(I hope….) What I’m saying is this: if portability is important to you(It is to me), then you might be interested in this device and find it very useful, but if you’re an analogue purist who is happy to make music in one location, then there’s less to appeal to you here. As for me; it’s as if TE looked inside my brain to see what features I wanted in a device and then made it a reality - It appeals to the way I like to write. I’d like to think that gear should be judged solely on the quality of the music you can write on it, but ultimately, you don’t *need* this, but maybe you *want* it.
I 100% agree. This is such a well thought out system. Since I long time I’n actually excited about a new bit of gear which seems to surprise me again and again. A lot of new innovative stuff gets to market half backed and some even never get finished.
@@expander3710You’re also highlighting a few things that seem to be getting missed; the personality of the thing (which is very prominent, dense and warm)...the homogenisation that might appear due to the punch-ins getting overused...and the sum-of-its-parts creating a very intentional usage case (as opposed to the focus that a lot are putting on what’s been left out) that seems to move the OP-Z design into being more a ying to the Op-1F’s yang, a partnership. Synth engines aside it seems nearest to a fully updated SmplTrek, so I’m intrigued to see and hear what doors it opens as folks spend more time with it and get the more obvious beats-focused stuff out their systems. Yours is the first demo that’s turned the lights on in for that path, really enjoyed all the pieces. Earworms galore
You’re the only one with this thing that actually makes unique music. So sick of “ambient lofi track” from all these boring ass youtubers. Can’t wait to hear what Son Wu makes too.
Thank you for the comment - I started this channel to finish more music and get it on streaming platforms, but I’m not there yet. One of my next videos will be about making a track from start to finish including adding it to streaming services; so I will be soon! Watch this space.
Ha! I think this an excellent unit, but the Move probably beats it for immediacy and sound, I’d say. I think the TE digital sound isn’t for everybody, but some like it a lot. It’s also hard to recommend this to many people simply because of the price, but I’m glad to have it - the battery life really is best in class. I’ve got one more video to make with the XY then I’ve got a couple of Move videos planned, one detailing the process of initial idea, then taken into Ableton to finish the track completely. Thanks for your comment.
I think the deluge is capable of more, but I’d say it’s sound isn’t as distinctive as the TE devices. It’s personal choice really. I think the deluge wins for sheer fun: the big grid sequencer on it is just fantastic.
had me at aphex twin, but lost me. won't lie, it is. but must be nice to have a family, must be nice to have a child, must be nice to not have a serious life-altering injury, must be nice to have a car, and on and on and on

The price is ridiculous and te should be ashamed but Im still getting one.
@ you’re their ideal customer!
LOVING that second track
This first song is just really incredible. Beautiful stuff.
@@JayHosking thank you Jay - I love your Maschine+ videos!
FINALLY something varied and fluent, was struggling to find anything except the usual mundane bleep bloop 4+4 brigade, thank you!
@@Farold_Haltermeyer thank you for leaving this comment - I feel the same: there’s so much you can do on this other than the obvious

Same!! My god all these people with the xy are garbage lol. This dude knows how to make a heater.
I love your taste and restraint in these arrangements ❤
Wow I love this. Good work.
That sounds lovely 👌🏻

Thank you so much, Jeff
@ Welcome dude. I always have the most respect for channels that actually make amazing music, and don’t just get a piece of gear to get clicks.
Fantastic compositions.
We are looking forward to the rest ! thx
Best song examples ever

Have you attempted to export tracks/ sequences as MIDI for use in a DAW? That's something l've been wondering about.
@@yannickloosa9694 not yet! It’s on my to do list

So does this mean the Ableton Move is no longer your favorite new groovebox? 🙂

inspiring compositions and soundscapes... ✨ but the question is still there; this or the deluge oled? :)
both
I have a deluge, and I would never sell it

@@expander3710 I sold my Delage and I'm waiting for my TE OP XY. I am a victim of GAS and RUclips. Help me... ;-)
Does it do a 5 step sequence?

Sounding great, but that interface...........tiny screen, non interactive.........for a company held up for design...........
Yes, I appreciate it’s not for everybody.
It is extremely interactive, has punch in effects it’s one of the selling points.
moving away from screens is a good thing
Excellent...I feel like a dumbass on this thing compared to you
Thats how I feel with trackers.
Keep practicing - it’s a complex device
