The 1983-84 Boston Celtics is quite underrated. Very well balanced on both ends along with youth and experience. All the more memorable when this is the only Bird-led and last Celtics team to beat the Lakers in the NBA Finals. Celtics would not beat Lakers for another 22 years later again in 2008. So far, between 1984 and 2010, the NBA Finals series match up between Celtics and Lakers is at 3-2 in favor of Lakers.

They were a great team obviously, and the champs.. but I don’t think they are up there with some of the VERY BEST teams ever, and I wouldn’t call them underrated at all…
In fact, in the Playoffs the vast majority of them underperformed (giving their level), except for Bird who really upped his game and carried them.
McHale and Parish played below their standards, DJ was too inconsistent, Ainge wasn’t at his best yet… Gerald Henderson did his thing, and Maxwell wasn’t playing well but then came through in the Finals.
The 1984 Lakers - on paper - had more talent and a better roster.. but yeah, they choked, Larry played like a beast, Cornbread was very clutch, rest of the team capitalized on LA’s mistakes… It took all of that for them to win the Finals (one of the GOAT series) in 7!
Now, if we’re talking about the 1986 Celtics? That’s a whole nother story! That team can easily be argued as being the GOAT.
