    I am Japanese. I felt the same way when I saw this promotional video for the first time.
    The lyrics are based on the novel ``The Temptation of Thanatos''. I read this novel and was able to understand it more deeply.
    In my personal opinion, many Japanese people often feel sad even when the tempo is a dance beat. I think the reasons for this are: 1) the delicate and wavering melody, 2) the way the singer's vowels waver and stretch, and 3) the space between the words. Sorry if the English translation is wrong.

      Thank you for the explanation! I totally agree (and love) how it can sound sad despite it being more a dance song, it creates an interesting and fun listening experience for me.
