  • Kukkiwon Taekwondo Demonstration: Best demonstration team ever!
    Personal Favorite: 05:00 (05:21) 06:24 !! (08:18 09:15 12:10 haha) Part II: 12:51 13:22 (17:30) 18:13 19:29 21:04 (22:12) 23:00 23:40 26:33 27:10 27:59 28:16 (!!) 30:23 and 31:14
    FYI:
    About the Music: The last music is "Arirang", a traditional Korean song. Otherwise, I don't know what music they use. I believe it is specially composed for this demonstration.
    Kukkiwon is the Taekwondo Headquarters located in Gangnam area of Seoul. This is where the styles of Taekwondo were unified and where they decide on reforms. It is where they decide what the patterns are (World Taekwondo Federation ones, not the International Taekwondo Federation's), how the correct techniques are, and where you have to go to take the highest dan exams (up to 9th dan... and perhaps election of the one in a generation 10th dan?). As a taekwondo practicer, Kukkiwon is the goal of your pilgrimage. In your everyday life, if you have a doubt about a poomsae, rely on an up to date Kukkiwon certified videos and technique books, as they come from the source.
    Why do they yell? It is called "Kihap". In Martial arts, you traditionally scream to be more performant: it helps to focus your energy, rise your level of adrenaline, put your mind in fighting mode, intimidate the opponent, let out air in the effort (and avoid cramps), gain your abdominal muscles. It is also a good signal for coordination. In this case it tells a lot without using words: "I'm badass", "I'm bad" "Let's fight" "You'll pay for this" and "I'm gonna break that piece of wood". If they were to say that in Korean, few of us would understand.

    Nobody said to use flashy kicks in fights.. a properly executed turning kick is already able to knock someone out in less than a second. Moreover, martial arts are practiced for the body and mind, not to kill or injure someone.

      It's art therefore then name Martial Art it's for the body and the mind and it is also a sport it is not to be used for harm rather in self defense you . The "fancy" kicks you are referring to are technics and gives you a huge advantage in a fight.

    @Madam Brainiac, Lol that's awesome, I've practiced different types of martial arts but I've always wanted to stay with 1 long enough to reach black belt, I just started Taekwondo 1 wk ago & I really like the kicking techniques used in Tkd, I've been practicing at home also off the youtube video "Taekwondo revolution of kicks/kicking" to get the techniques down, Master at my school is restricting me to very basic kicks even though I know I'm at a muchmore advanced level & it's driving me insane!

    The reason you scream, is to tense up your body by removing air from the lungs etc. Some people prefer to just do some kind of hissing sound. But it's also supposed to be a kind of warcry to scare the opponent.

    I disagree, different instructors teach different things. TKD is a martial art which relies on kicks but what i have been taught includes alot of counter attacks, blocks etc with arms. Techniques in Taeguks ( patterns ) include alot of hand strikes and footwork. As most MA do.

    • @Lee7676
      @Lee7676 11 лет назад

      tang soo do is korean pronunciation of 'karate do(hand of Tang) it is a word play.karate came from ryuku island.and ryuku people called thier art' To de(hand of Tang).in japanese reading' karate(hand of tang).when karate spread out to general public of japanese,Japanese imperial army gave ordered to all karate masters'you better change name of your art.or else you must close down your school.because tnag means china nad japan about to go war with china.so karate masters changed name from karate(hand of tang) to karate(empty hand).diffrent chinese characters but sounds same.all korean early taekwondo teachers learned this 'karate' when they studied in japan in 1930s and 1940s.they came back to korea and opened their school.kong soo do,tang soo do,soo bak do.all these came from karate.i hate korean taekwondo teachers.they fabricated Hstory.japanse karate masters laugh at them.its like America saying we have nothing to do with England.we are original.bull shit.korean taekwondo masters are bull shit for 60years.

    • @Lee7676
      @Lee7676 11 лет назад

      korean traditional martial arts wear shoes. same thing in chinsese kung fu.japanese martial arts doesnt wear shoes.they practice bare feet.why? because they have diffrent customs.taekwondo,tang soo do,yu do,
      gum do,haedong gumdo,hapkido and yu sool,kuk sool...all this have origininated from japan.not in korea.why koreans hiding historical facts? because korean masters feel shame of reality that they learned from japanese.koreans doesnt like japan.japan attacked korea many times.even 200years ago, korean look down japan.than they got conquered by japan.how could this happen? japan opened door to western powers and they catch up very fast.korea doesnt do that.koreans fight each other,choson dynasty was worst kingdom in korean history.thats why taekwondo promotes '5000 year old korean art.'it is cover up.

      mrjerrysays Actually Taekwondo has a heavy Shotokan influence. What meximanderson said is correct. I am a Taekwondo instructor and I think koreans lied about their history. Taekwondo has more from Shotokan Karate, another kind of Karate, Judo, and also some Chuan Fan and Northern Kung Fu. Only a small amount is based on Taekyeon which is where TKD gets so many kicks. but this does not mean the Koreans did not develop an extremely effective martial art because Taekwondo has become unique. Koreans first wanted to make Karate better in a Korean powerful way over the Japanese and they did not deny it was Karate. Only later they acted like it was not from Japan. The entire belt system and doboks etc are from Japanese influence. They changed the doboks later to be V neck style to look more Korean. But this does not mean Taekwondo is a bad martial art.

    • @jeongstaekwondoacademy1860
      @jeongstaekwondoacademy1860 10 лет назад

      MaharlikaAWA Taekwondo got influence from Karate when the Japanese were policing Korea during World War II. During this time there wasn't anybody allowed to train in Taekwondo (not yet known under that name untill 1961) There was a standstill in Taekwondo evolution for nearly half a century in which the Koreans were learning Karate. If you were a true Taekwondo instructor you would know that.

Never mind, I even think you don't practice any martial art... if you did you would understand what i'm telling you. Furthermore, MMA and Wrestling can be considered everything, but not martial arts. Try not to offend anyone, so as noone asked you what you think about this martial art.

      do you think i dont train martial arts at all?
      how about this? i started WTF taekwondo when i was 8years old back in 1980s,i was born in south korea.than i trained northern shaolin for 5years,and i did boxing,judo,kyokushin,now ashihara karate.do you think all this jumping and yelling air kicking can be useful in real life confrontation? i dont think so.i respect every combat systems on earth.yet i have to be very critic about current WTF system.those boards are not even thick.and no human being on earth just stand there and to get kicking by this men.they move around.you know what? we koreans saying,'taekwondo is not useful in street fight.if you want to be good fighter,take boxing.'i have friend he is 3rd degree black belt from kukkiwon.he showed me flash kicks so i kicked his other leg and chocke him from behind,gave him elbow to back of the head.i dont want to give him concussion,so i hit him not hard.after that incident,he gave away taekwondo he said'i wasted 15years.i better train ground fighting,elbows,and knees.'

    • @MaharlikaAWA
      @MaharlikaAWA 10 лет назад

      maximian anderson I understand your concern about Taekwondo. And it is apparent that not just in the USA, but in Korea too many weak schools exists for the sake of sowing off acrobatics, taekwondo dancing and boring WTF rules sparring. But original TKD and original Kukkiwon is self defense oriented with alot of good techniques. Elbows, knees etc are all in Kukkiwon textbook. There are a few Korean masters who train in practial taekwondo for real fighting. I am not korean but I teach Taekwondo as a fighting suystem and not this silly demo stuff. Do not give up on Taekwondo just train it differently and more serious. I also did boxing too and BJJ etc. Train in those other styles but also understand original Taekwondo was hardcore before the whole commercialization of it all over the world. It is very annoying how so many Koreans only promote TKD for demos and showing off tricks and not practical combat. Only the military does combatives stuff and select kukkiwon masters. I hope to be a Kukkiwon ranked master soon and keep training in combat oriented Taekwondo. Have a great day.
