Glad you did this part as well, nice to hear your opinion. For me as a player what they did in TLOU2 is next level immersion. And it starts with such things you don't really notice easily, those fluid animations combined with interaction with geometry, objects and NPCs and on top of that motion and face capture from actors. Great, hope more people use it in their games.
Bravo Neil. Can’t think of anyone else that could so masterfully take the life story of an infamous punk rocker who’s been dead over 30 years and turn it into an epic post-apocalyptic revenge tale. Masterpiece!
Great vid as always York.. I freaking love this game so much. Ive actually been playing it today and the Remastered version looks absolutely amazing. Cant wait to see what Naughty Dog does next.
It’s so rare to hear from a big studio dev about how specific parts of the game work. I’ll be honest, I’m getting tired of hearing Solo, Ned Luke, Steven Ogg, Bryan Dechart, and every mocap actor giving their same story of recording motion capture. I wanna hear from other departments like character animation, UI design, and environment art and you’re one of the people cool enough to share that kinda life. Thank you!!
The Last of Us 2 set a new standard in my eyes. Even today. It is top tier development at its finest. From the animations, the immersiveness, the effects, the music, the gameplay, the environment, the story (as controversial as some thought it was), etc. This was a studio putting everything they had into a game... and boy did they deliver. One of the few story driven games that continues to draw me back time after time. It's gritty, raw, tense and emotional, yet through it all, there is a true beauty to it. I honestly didn't think the game could get any better, until I upgraded my copy to the PS5 version when it came out last month. The new tweaks, features, dualsense implementation and visual upgrades truly made it the definitive way to play the game. Outstanding work. And getting to see Naughty Dog talk about this game so intimidately in that doc, was such a treat. TLOU Part 1 & Part 2 are simply perfection. At least in my opinion. Hopefully Neil's final words in that doc materialize into Part 3. I would love another game in this world they have created. That said, I wanted to say thank you for this breakdown! It's always great to see a developer share their thoughts on things like this. Much appreciated 👌
It literally took like a month after finishing TLOU2 for me to continue playing other games, literally every single game felt completely ruined and outright broken after i experienced tlou2s animation engine, its crazy how good it is. I just hope games really start using it more and more.
Once again, your insight is amazing! I am curious to know (if you are allowed to talk about it) what the match moving system was like for Red Dead II and how it compares to what you're seeing here in TLOU2 :)
Stuff like this has such high quality that gamers absolutely take all of it for granted. You watch the final product, and things look so smooth you just assume it should look like that and think nothing of it. Somehow it usually gets the same response as a game with 10% of the animation/detail.
I love your analysis about animation and technical aspects of games ❤️ Can you breakdown the patent for the GTAVI character movements/animation system? I think it’s pretty similar to Naughty Dogs approach for their physics/animations.
Hi Mike, can you tell me from where to start my animation and rigging journey and do you know any Maya related online content? One more thing you also said we should first join as a QA tester so, how can we do this @@YorkReacts
I visited the studio in Edinburgh I think that’s north but I never went to San Diego. I worked at the New England location. Appreciate your comment! Hope to see you in the live stream sometime as well
@@YorkReacts Nice! How was you feeling when you were able to talk or meet the people who worked on San Andreas and Vice City? Did you talk to some of them?
I've played a bit with motion matching, and the guys behind all that are way over my old timer IK keyframe head. I wonder how much longer til they're doing physics driven procedural movement?
I’m not sure I wasn’t in that department. I worked on the animals. From my knowledge and what I’ve personally seen online ect I thought Naughty Dog was the first to implement this tech into a game but I could be wrong
In my opinion, The Last Of US Part II is a real gaming masterpiece. I've never played a game with such accurate animations. They even outperformed Rockstar Games with Red Dead Redemption 2.
Honestly, after The Last Of Us: Part II, I started noticing animation way more in other games, nothing else feels up to snuff anymore. Except one game... The Part I remake. Yeah it's still all Naughty Dog, man... The fucking industry leaders of video game animation, not just in performance capture, but just animation in general.
probably not super popular opinion but its a better graphics engine and game story wise than gta too bad they cancelled the online mode if they came out with that and did it right it probably would give gta some serious competition

@@YorkReacts Hmm I saw your 3 tier does it include pre recorded lecture? Will you teach from beginner to advance ?
Can you tell me more about your course structure and content/curriculum?This way I will get some idea related to your content

Great video! Very interesting!
10:19 caught me off guard a bit

Wait you said no one did this before naughty dog in 2019, didn't red dead 2 have this ? or was It a completely different tech ?
I’m not sure I wasn’t in that department. I worked on the animals. From my knowledge and what I’ve personally seen online ect I thought Naughty Dog was the first to implement this tech into a game but I could be wrong

The facial animations in this game is still the best I've seen 4 years later, simply incredible.
will u play tlou on stream? if so, when?
Yeah I think I’m planning on playing part 2 because I feel everyone has seen part 1 a million times haha 😂
I’ve also played part 1 like 5 times and played it on the hardest difficulty.
Yeah their animation is top notch. No studio does it like them
York you need to play the remastered version of Last of us part II LIVE🤙
Yes I agree !
