    Very good review! Only thing I would recommend would be to also review a longer run cable if they have it. Back when I had manual scart switcher, issues with the lower end cables became more pronounced traveling through multiple/long runs.

    Cool video, as always! A suggestion for future cable tests: I really would like to see a spectrum comparison of an audio clip (say, the Konami logo like in your last video) between badly shielded and well shielded cables! I'm sure you could clearly see the buzzing in the spectrum and that way you could put your fancy scope to good use :) surely it can do an FFT or something!

    • @stekulov3529
      @stekulov3529 6 лет назад +3

      Good idea. I typically record audio onto my PC using a quality soundcard and use a spectrum analyzer like Spek to look at the results. FFT on the scope won't show things with fancy colors and across time, but it's definitely something I can show Bob how to do and it doesn't require good PC audio equipment.
      Some Spek plots here for reference:

    Thanks for the review. I was on the fence about purchasing another SNES scart cable for my recently modded N64. I was just going to swap cables with my SNES Mini but the price point being a bit lower allowed me to pick another. You should do a review on 6 Port RGB Scart/RCA/Component Switch from Otaku Games. I think you picked one up last year, right? I purchased one and it seems to me working fine. Love the channel as it got me back into retro gaming. Modded my N64 last night thanks to your and Voultar's videos.

    Further to the audio testing Benedict Heyer suggested, I would be interested in seeing examining of how the VIDEO looks with various game audio playing in the background, to see whether crosstalk from the audio is affecting the video signal. I am less interested in the integrity of the audio produced by our retro consoles as I am the video signal. This will probably be harder to test for, and will require capturing and examining video footage for evidence instead of just the screencaps, but is probably worth checking for, since the presence in cables would reflect poorer internal shielding, etc. Not sure if the 240p test suite features a test showing imagery while various audio plays in the background (synth, samples, etc), but this would be worth having instead of needing to seek out specific carts with convenient testable areas in games. Great review Bob!

    • @stekulov3529
      @stekulov3529 6 лет назад

      There's a reason why you don't see anyone talk about that. Audio->video crosstalk is not typically of concern, since the audio signals are much lower frequency and drive much higher impedances (less current). Unless there is some horrible unintentional EMI radiating from audio lines in question, then you're only going to get in the microvolts (1/1000th of a millivolt) range of crosstalk from the audio onto the video lines even if there's zero shielding. Video-on-audio and video-on-video crime is all our tax dollars need to focus on.

    • @michaelsworkshop9031

      You talk a good game, but I'm not gonna just listen to some muppet off youtube tell ME how it is. Why don't we ask an expert whether this matters or not, like those hairy guys from HD Retrovision? They actually make cables, so they should know.

    Maybe this was discussed already, but what causes the "bleed" along the vertical edges of contrasting pixels when you're at max zoom? Is this just the result of the digital to analog conversion again or something else? It looks like there's less of this in the Insurrection cables in the comparison.

  • @TheRealGara

    Glad to see another contender enter the scene. retro access and retro UK have both stepped away from custom work and only focus on their high volume cables. A real disappointment but just not as much profit in taking care of long term customers. My guess is the thinking changed to why build a custom when you can build 2 stock cables for cables that meet buyer quotas daily.
    Glad to see the audio is shielded. Audio buzz is always the most apparent flaw in low quality cables.

    1. Is that company in the USA, if so it would be easier option then getting some shipped from Europe.
    2. That company is also making a digital out hdmi for the gamecube. hope it turns out well and works better the gchd with gbi. Hope you test it with gbi.

    For some reason, in my set-up, I currently have to unplug my hydra scart switch from my framemeister, and plug my snes scart plug straight into the framemeister bypassing the hydra scart switch anytime I want to play snes. I've tried several cables and they all give me audio but no picture or neither when running into the hydra switch. But, when I just run the snes scart cable straight into the framemeister, I get both picture and audio. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know if the cable from this video will work through a hydra scart switch? All my other systems work fine through the hydra scart switch into the framemeister except snes.

    Do SNES RGB SCART cables work on RGB modded N64s?

  • @DrKeez

    So with a SNES RGB mod, I assume you leave TTL sync disabled for these cables?

    • @RetroRGB
      @RetroRGB 4 года назад +2

      No, you'll always want to output TTL sync from a mod, because you want the modded SNES outputting the same exact signal as an original SNES. I wish board makers never gave that option at all, because it just confuses people.

    I see the video showing them for $22.99, where did you find them for that price ? I can only find them for around $25-30... After dealing with a cheap SCART from ebay, that has a really bad HUMM I need to get a better cable because playing with that noise is unacceptable.

    The quality on these cables has significantly gone downhill. I bought a PSX and SNES SCART cable and both have really bad looking solder joints as well as neither of them have the heatshrink actually shrunk to fit. They just slide around.

    I’m sorry, and possibly I’m in the minority here but as a long time Neo Geo fan who owns a restored big red 4 slot as well as an AES, I do not agree that the Omega is aesthetically pleasing, I would much rather mod an AES and get a MVS adapter to play MVS games which would not be that different in price. I’m sure that the creator of the Omega was trying to get an MVS system that looks as good as the AES console but it doesn’t work for me. The AES to me is one of the greatest looking consoles of all time along with the mega drive 2 and the SUPER FAMICOM though the Omega looks a bit rough. And that is what you are paying for since you can easily mod an AES these days. I will say that Analogue Interactive might have improved the aesthetics of the AES with their limited and rare wood CMVS, though you can no longer purchase that and my gripe with that is no memory card support.
