Perfect! You're totally right about setting the Wireless Go II to low. Especially if using with a GoPro, low is the cleanest setting for GoPro. I read a tip on Rode's site also which I've always stuck with, "camera pre-amps are usually not high quality and therefore noisy, so set your camera audio level as low as possible and use the gain control on the Rode Wireless Go instead."
I appreciate this a lot. I have a Rode lavalier mic and the gain was recorded too high and it records the plosives, now with this device I can reduce the gain for the input and it solves both the problem of being mobile and the audio input and potential plosives.
Your video helped me to understand why my wireless mic wasn't working with my dslr camera (no sound). The adapter I was using was the TRRS adapter for my phone and what my camera needed was a TRS. Both adapters came with my wireless mic. My sound works beautifully now. Thank you so much!
I love my Wireless Go because I'm shooting by myself outdoors most of the time. That means I can walk around and not tied to the camera with a wire. And the sound is great! Also, you can use two with the splitter cable for having two mic'd people in front of the camera.
@@MovewithMarcia Only if you are very far away, like 50' or more. I have filmed myself inside a camping tent from the outside (a 'wake up in the morning and come outside' moment. Works perfectly!
I've had mine a while and always thought it sounded loud and distorted but I knew, I just knew there had to be a way to turn it down, and here is it.Brilliant explanatory video, my audio will never be horrible again, thank you.
I appreciate this a lot. I have a Rode lavalier mic and the gain was recorded too high, now with this device I can reduce the gain for the input and it solves both the problem of being mobile and the audio input.
I've been bingeing on videos about the Wireless Go lately and this one has been much more informative and pleasant to listen to than most. Thanks for all the tips too, greatly appreciated.
Mine won't work on iphone11 - have adaptors but no sound recording. So i'd love to say yes Rode are one of the best but until I can get my mic working i'm on the fence.
Almost missed it, but you dropped a big tip in the middle of it all: You do a test shot before every video, to check both the audio and the look of the video. The quality of these videos is no accident!
Great video. 2 questions if you have time: 1) I have 2 sets of these because I thought I lost the transmitter from my first one and found it after I bought another set. Can I get a splitter cable and use them both at the same time for interviews? 2) Did the Hack video you mentioned get removed? The card isn’t there. Thanks !
This depends what you are recording to- if it records stereo, as most cameras do, then you can use a splitter cable to record the two GOs as two track stereo and split them later for editing, which is the ideal situation as this gives you most control. However an iPhone or other device with a TRRS socket only has a single mono mic channel, which is a lot less desirable. (You could mix the two mics, but it would still record as mono) You can get a device from Rode that lets you record two mics as stereo into a lightning socket but its around £70.
Lots of great information but you didnt really show how to set up the wireless go. For someone who has never seen or bought anything like this until now it is very confusing and complicated. If you do a "How to setup your Rode wireless go" please sent me the link. I do like that you have the links to the products you talk about in your video description.
Thanks for reviewing this. I am a new RUclipsr and I am really looking to level up my game. Still $200 is still a little steep. I am not even close to being monetized at this time, but I can make it a goal in the next few months.
Just did my first online freediving class with the laptop and it works great. Question- how to use iPhone with Rode Go as the speaker while using AirPod Pro to listen at a Zoom class ?
I wish you did not use that background track on the post. I really wanted to hear the mic and crank it. I did hear some click and taps. Next time leave out the background track when you show us a mic. I will probably get this though cause its nice.
I can't understand which one is the splitter in the description? Also, if I understood right - just need the splitter and the cable coming with the Rode, rather than buying 3 striped TRRS? Thank you for the video also, just learned how to use the mic.
hello - I just ordered this. Very excited. I have a couple of questions 1) it looks like there are 2 wireless mics in the package. Does this mean I can do an interview or collaboration with a guest? have 2 mics running? 2) if I got the splitter - does that mean I don't need to buy the TRRS cable?
Amy Galper one is a receiver (not a mic) the other is a transmitter (this is the mic) If you put a splitter on your transmitter (the mic) and put two mics in, the receiver will get 2 signals (left and right), so you have two mic channels to edit in post.
Miguel Teirlinck would I then need to get another rode wireless mic and then plug in both transmitters into the splitter...? And does this splitter plug into an iPhone? Thanks so much for answering me
Amy Galper look at my previous answer, I made a mistake. The splitter is on the transmitter, so you would only have one cable from the receiver to your phone. I think it’s quite difficult to edit both channels on your phone though. Seems more convenient on your Mac or something
I've just received my wireless go today! looking forwards to using it, ill be outdoors most of the time, do you or does anyone have any tips for shooting in the rain to keep it dry? ill be using this with a gopro . thanks :D
Been using Rode Wireless Go with my M50, GoPro and now a DJI osmo action. I shoot mostly outdoors, and it’s great that I’m not tethered and can walk away from the camera and still get great audio. My only gripe is the dead cat/ dead kitten. They are next to useless and just fall off, but secured mine with a bit of tape and all is good. Not a big issue and I’m probably just being a bit pedantic. I’m a Brit, and it goes with the territory.

Hey Omar. Thx for the video. Well done. Great advice on focusing on audio to improve overall quality. Keep it up plz. One thing... compressors don't "clean up" audio. They control dynamic range. That means the difference between the wanted audio and the noise floor and background sounds will be smaller. Not a good thing and easily taken too far too quickly leading to disaster. Compressors are quite simple to set but are the most misunderstood processors in the audio world. I advise caution. They should be used judiciously. 😊🎶
