As I've got older with tarot, I have realised that it's ok for me not to live out my idealised self via deck buying, decks don't make me better. I much prefer to have a collection that reflects who I am, who I am is enough.
I realized I have a bunch of decks on my wishlist that are edgy or gory, because I think they’re cool. But in reality, I just want cute animated mental health hug decks 😂 that’s who I am 🤷🏼♀️

lol, I feel that, I'm at the other end of the spectrum. I really want to love the cozy and/or cutesy or hug decks, but that's not who I am. I live at edgy, maybe not gory, but definitely quirky.
34:56 Your reaction to The Bee Tarot is very similar to mine with The Somnia Tarot. I cannot look at people with sheets over their heads and faces! My claustrophobia immediately kicks in and I feel a panicky and suffocating feeling when I see that artwork! As you said about The Bee Tarot, it's beautiful artwork, but it triggers something within me that makes me extremely uncomfortable. And not in a triggering/uncomfortable way that "may have a hidden lesson" for me or "something in my shadow I need to work on". No. It's just a no for me because I don't want to feel like that, ever. This! 👆 I can’t handle the sheets over people either. I love aspects of it, but I cannot do the sheets over people. Since I know that it’s something that bothers me, I will never get it. Im glad to hear that I’m not the only one that it bothers!
Mysteries of Black Madonna is crazy regarding price 😵💫
This makes me feel so nostalgic! The first video of yours I ever saw was an anti-haul, and I do love them so. 🥰 And, aw, you definitely have the right to shout your accomplishments to the rooftops, gurl! Be proud, very, very proud! I get it, though, as I am horrible at self-promo, and I've been working on raising my confidence with sharing my writing, too. But anyway, that Bee Tarot is a *horror*...😱 Beautiful art, and I love those fat-n-fuzzy bumbles, too, but...no, no, no, no, no. I felt like I had bee stings all over my face after seeing that. But ooh! I immediately thought of Mysteries of the Black Madonna when you showed the Cave of Sybil, so I'm psyched that you gifted yourself that deck for your birthday. I have loved it, it's gotten me through some dark moments, and it's gorgeous paired with Tiera's Ritual Tarot. Thanks for the fun and frankness here, Lisa! Always a delight. 🖤
Maybe it's because I'm British and have known standing stones my whole life, or maybe it's because of certain books I read as a kid that influenced my over-imaginative head, but such stones have significant presence, personality and individuality to me, so I have no problem with them being court cards. That said, I *am* a little discombobulated by the fact that the stones are swords and not pentacles/coins, but I still love Under the Oak. I bonded with it instantly, and it's immediately become my go-to inner child deck. It's the first deck I've found that's talked to my specific childhood rather than children in general. I do totally get how things like that can interfere with bonding with a deck, however. Some deck/reader relationships are just not meant to be.

I love ALL of Three Tree Tarots decks! They all are so warm and comforting, even their dragon deck :) Love this anti-haul! I cannot do the Bees or the Spiders either. When I saw that deck it was a hard no for me immediately.
Hi Lisa! When the camera can see your eyes it will FOCUS on them. It's programmed to do that. So you need to either have your eyes out of shot, or have the cards you're showing at the same distance as your eyes are...
And as always watching this makes me want decks, but also realise I don't need them. But I am waiting for your book!
I love the Shining Tribe Tarot, and I'm waiting to get the new version as soon as I can. I use it for my ancestral communication spread because I think of ancestor as a line that spans millennia. However, for me, it is a deck that needs to be learned on its own. It has a language that is RWS adjacent, but not exactly the same to me. One amazing thing to me, especially for my spread, is how many of the cards refer strongly to other cards in the deck, and how often the connected cards will appear in my spread. It's such a fascinating read for me.
I just wish Rachel Pollack (or even Grant Morrison, himself) would have made a fandom deck for their version of the Doom Patrol, with artwork from Richard Case. That'd be the ultimate fandom deck for me... but they'd sell precisely ONE copy... to me!

The frozen King of Swords in the Under the Oak (??)deck makes perfect sense to me. I’m my mind sometimes a King of Cups can lose control or lock out freeze his emotions and become a King of Swords. Cold and hardened, out using his sword and slaying dragons. Leaving damsels in distress. That frozen King Swords could really be any other king not dealing with their own suit right. They’ve frozen their related suit and read as this frozen King Swords instead. Just my thoughts on that card. It’s another King not doing what they’re supposed to. So they are frozen and acting up, feeling unbalanced. I guess all those frozen court cards could be called frozen or locked too. Good deck actually.

Ooo I bet if you read the little white book for the goblin and gardens you would change your mind. A friend sent me some screenshots of the card write ups and from that point in I’ve wanted the deck so badly! It’s money or lack of it that’s stopping me. I’d love you to have a look at the white book card write ups if somebody can send you some screenshots and then know what you think. ❤

Thanks for another anti-haul! Regarding the Under the Oak: I think the courts in this emphasize the universal archetypes that they represent, through all ages and times. And rocks are alive too. 😅 They just age and change slowly…which is exactly what the different aspects of human nature do…brilliant.

I got super excited when you showed the knight of swords card, because I immediately knew what it was and had a suspicion on what was the reason for the stones, and as you showed the other court cards for swords I had my thought confirmed. They're meant to be like the Runestones that can be found throughout Scandinavian countries. I've also seen many Norse pagans make runestones in that sort of style for their altars. The knight looks like ones used for Loki, or his son Jormandgandr, but my money is on it's meant to be Loki considering what the card represents. The king is very clearly Odin. I literally looked up someone doing a flip through to try and see all the court cards, but the Page and Queen are hard for me to get details on when pausing a video. Though queen is likely going to be Freya or Frigg, I just can't get enough details to be certain. And depending on the animals next to the Page... if it's goats, it's Skadi. Dogs, it's meant to be Hel (which could be why there is the specific detail of we can only see one half of her face). Or if it's cats, it's Freya so the queen would then likely be Frigg. But I really just can't be sure from pausing the video I found, it blurs details and I'm just "Ah, a furry creature". 😅
But each suit is for one mythology, and the courts are each a deity. King of wands is Cernnunos, queen is Brigid, my brain blanks on who the knight might be so either I'm not familiar with that Celtic deity or my brain is firing to fast to remember, but the page is Cerridwen's cauldron so it's meant to be her. King of cups is Dionysus, the queen is Hecate, knight is Artemis, and the page is Pan. I'm not really familiar is Basque mythology, so can't identify them. Honestly, this has just really cemented for me that I want to get this deck, and I hadn't heard of it before this video. I am super glad I clicked this video to listen to while I crochet, my wallet is not. But I am. 😂 I totally nerded out and my brain is firing a mile a minute now. But even though they're mostly images of statues on them, I think that's meant to capture how these deities' energies are still very much alive, even though many people talk about the mythology as if they're just relics of a time long past. Plus with the way the narratve of the whole deck is, they're specifically representations of people the main character of the deck Anima meets as we watch her move through the island in all of the numbered cards.

Love these anti-haul videos ❤ I also have to remind myself constantly that I don’t need to buy EVERYTHING that Lisa makes or likes although I admire her work 😅 If I like a person it’s easy to just buy everything without thinking if it really is for me. I felt the EXACT same way about the Bee Tarot like they just went a little too far with covering everyone in a massive amount of bees. I can deal with a couple of accent bees floating around like in the Good Fortune Tarot but that to me is enough to add the symbology, no need to bathe in them eek 😂

Hey Lisa! I love your channel! You seem to know ALL the decks, and I always come to see your deck overviews. As a result, I cannot think of anyone better to potentially answer this question: Do you know the channel @LillyLightTarot? She frequently uses this Indie (?) deck that I have been lusting after for years. It's in 2-dimensions and folk-art style using limited palette of primary colours (black green, yellow, red, blue) and a floral folky pattern on the back. Her most recent videos (as of Sept 13, 2024) all use this deck. Any idea what the heck it is? I did ask on her channel, but sadly she never got back to me... Thanks in advance for your time! I have the first two versions of the Shining Woman and Shining Tribe Tarot, but not the newest version. I’m working with them this Saturday, 17 Aug., to honor Rachel’s birthday, but I don’t work with them very much. They’re accurate, but not the first I grab for a reading.
Just wanted to post a shout-out for the Nigredo Tarot on kickstarter, I don't do social media so have no way to promote it and I'd really like to see it reach it's funding goal. It's definitely not a 'Lisa' aesthetic. It is dark, (inspired by Redon, Kubin), black & white, charcoal drawings focussed on Jungian shadow work. It's actual art-work from an actual artist (no AI).
I figured it's not off-topic to post here, as it's definitely a deck Lisa is not gonna buy lol.

I just love Under the Oak but I totally get it about the swords courts. I THINK the idea behind those is the Anima Mundi world soul and Animism that all things are connected, even rocks. It's a SHAME that this is a Lo Scarabeo deck because a guidebook that explains everything would be helpful. Like. Really. I get so frustrated with Lo Scarabeo guidebooks even tho this one has a little more. I only use that deck for readings for me, tho. For the reasons you explained. Loved this video! Been LUSTING over the Black Madonna. Can't wait for a walk thru!
Lighted Window Tarot is SO good! I absolutely adore it. It’s the only pip deck I own believe it or not, because I don’t get along with pip decks…usually. But I love, love, love lighted window 💕

I have the new edition of the Textured Tarot. I cannot conmpare it to the first edition, but by the look of it, it looks less chunkey. It glides shuffles really smoothly (i am and overhand shuffler) . Maybe it is a different cardstock (I ve heard so many people complain about the first edition and to me this feels like lovely cardstock) maybe there are videos comparing the first en second edition cardstock?

Love your anti-hauls. I love Tarot of the Witch's Garden and the guidebook is amaaaaazing. I also really love The Lighted Window Tarot. I actually use it a lot. Both decks are super witchy and cozy. I keep saying "congratulations" on your deck and on your book but seriously -- well done, you!!!
I try not to spoil myself by looking at the description until after so I straight up gasped loudly when you dropped G&G. I love that deck so much!!! But to be fair I have been playing D&D since the 80's when those original Monster Manuals that are used for the deck came out so the nostalgia is on point. Lighted Window, I get tempted all the time but I have 5 friends that use it so I can see it whenever I want without being tempted. I do plan on getting Heartwood when I have some "play money" again. And that is why I didn't back the Cave of Sybil as well. I just can't spend the money right now but if its anything like Ritual as far as quality goes, it will be beautiful to work with.

I backed the Cave of Sybil then dropped out. I try not to do that but I really just didn't feel like it was quite right for especially right now. I seriously watched the card walkthrough about 20 times. Then I almost re-backed it in the last 24 hours, but didn't. I'm also still torn about it. I'm hoping it will be available to purchase at a later date and I can reevaluate then.

I was very tempted by the tarot gallimaufry as well - those colors! she made it intentionally confusing, apparently, and there are seven symbols on each card. she used AI to come up with some of the symbols as well as in the artwork in the texture and layering. that was kind of a turn off for me, even though it did seem more like an artist using AI as a tool rather than someone just making a deck with AI prompts. but I think mostly I was drawn to the look of all the cards together and when I zero in on individual cards, they're not as tempting to me. also it seems like a lot of symbols to wade through in a reading.

I too was torn about whether or not to pick up the larger Buffy deck. When you said they're coming out with the mini, I felt like the decision was made, I'll get the mini. By the end of your video, I am now asking myself, "Do I need to get the larger one, so that I'll have all three? "
Lisa, the way I think of Lenormand is that it is more structured. It can be good for someone who doesn't want a more fluid interpretation of the cards. That is my take on it, anyway. And, thanks for sharing your thoughts as always. I am going to look more closely at the Black Madonna deck. My problem is that I have a very specific view on the Black Madonna and it is not what is usually out there. It has more tie in to the Magdelene, but she is also the Mary I am more drawn to. So, I will look. But, yes, that is pricey.
I haven't put the Bee Tarot in my shopping cart like 15 times but then take it out because I'm allergic to their stings and wonder if I'd be able to use it. I don't think I could. I'm ok with them on flowers and plants but like you, to get panicky when they're on skin.
I totally agree with most of your choices. I let go of the Journey Tarot. I just could not get on board with it. I was so excited to back it and receive it and then I was so disappointed. As far as the Bee tarot I already have all the Sacred Bee decks so I definitely don't need that. Thanks for sharing

Hi Lisa one thing I must say is there is No substitute for SHINING TRIBE BY RACHEL POLLACK. It is a singular voice in all of Tarot. It is Rachel’s heart and soul. The cards are her visions and the POWER of the deck it how it talks to you in Rachel’s own voice and poetry. Please add this deck to your library. OMG it’s a whole entire experience.
Hmm... I struggle to believe there's no substitute for anything, tbh.
Maybe the deck hits you in a very special place where there's nothing else like it, but that's more of a personal experience rather than an objective statement about the deck itself.
I felt the same way about the Gallimaufrey Tarot. I love the Textured Tarot, it feels like home to me (I also bent a card lol) and I wanted to love her new deck, but it just doesn't hit the spot for me and with Etsy shipping I have to really feel a deck to buy from there.
I didn't pre-order the Heartwood, as much as I absolutely adore the Three Trees vibe, I have the Oak, Ash & Thorn & it doesn't see a lot of use from me, and the Heartwood would sit in the same spot for me.

Yay! Loooooove the anti-hauls!! I got the Shining Tribe Tarot at a good price when it was oop purely for the guidebook. I also don't super dig the art style, but I cannot get enough of Rachel Pollack's writing. Of course, have I started reading it? Nooooo lol. I also bought the Goblin and Gardens tarot purely for the guidebook XD It's poetic and very cool, but I do have trouble making sense of the images as they're so busy. Another good Mass Market option for an RPG inspired tarot might be the Ultimate RPG Tarot Deck. It has tongue-in-cheek keywords on each card that make it extra fun. As for the Cave of Sibyl oracle, I also passed on that. I find I almost have to pass on Kickstarters as a rule these days because by the time they come in my practice is in a totally different place. But I'm almost sure she'll have it for sale afterwards since her tarot deck has been pretty constantly for sale since it came out.
Have you ever seen Fairy Tale Fortune Cards by Liz Dean? They are super fun, super colorful Lenormand cards with key words on them. They are larger cards for Lenormand, but they are perfect for 3 card spreads. I think they are so fun!

I also recently got the two Mysteries of Mary and the Black Madonna decks. I love them so much. I have a plan of how to use them in my spiritual practice, but actually making it actionable is going to take some time. I hope you will share with us how you use your decks to give us with the decks new ideas. :)

Sorry the stone courts didn't work for you, it is a little frustrating. Additionally the runes don't seem to make any sense which is a bummer 😕
