  • Most emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) are caused by pathogens that can be transmitted between animals and humans and are often driven by a variety of environmental factors. Over the past two decades a number of new paradigms that recognise the complex ecological relationship between humans, animals and the environment have been developed and call for more integrated and collaborative approaches to EID research and prevention. While the current COVID-19 pandemic has clearly demonstrated the urgent need for such approaches, serious challenges for their effective implementation remain.

A note of caution, in the speaker there, not at least acknowledging the proper lines between policy advocacy and education versus active, affiliated lobbying for specific policies.
