Worked office jobs since the '80s - not necessarily in tall buildings. Worked from home through COVID then back to the office long enough for them to dissolve my department, so I started my own business from home. A couple of years in I realized that I was never going to work in an office building again. Your beautiful rendition perfectly echoes the victory (not the sadness) in that. Thank you.
A lovely version of this memorable song by Hartford. ♬‧*˚✧♬‧*˚✧ I worked in tall buildings for 6-7 years .. I'm back to the countryside for many years now. ✿ ☀
As a bluegrass musician years back, I would play at a goodly number of festivals along the east coast, mostly in Maryland and Pennsylvania, but also New York, Delaware, West Virginia and Virginia. John Hartford played at some of the festivals where the band I was in was also playing but, in my mind, Hartford wasn’t really “bluegrass” so I largely ignored his music. Frankly, and disappointingly, I held Hartford’s work in disdain. Now, as I have grown older and wiser, and have broadened my musical interests considerably since that time I hold Hartford’s work in high esteem. His world view and, more importantly, eccentricity shone through in his work. Personally, I find your treatment of Tall Buildings to be beautifully done. Hartford’s earliest recording of it, at least to me, seemed to include a healthy dose of drôle humour and irony injected into it. Your rendition with Rayna is especially earnest and poignant. Thanks to you and everyone involved for bringing this gem to life for yet another audience. PS Sorry for the comparison to the Hartford original. For me, it can be difficult at times to avoid when I hear a cover and is by no means meant to conjure any negativity ; this performance is masterful in my estimation.
Wonderful! I just stumbled upon this video while I was getting some ideas for playing In Tall Buildings. Korby, I remember listening to you many times in Bellingham, WA! Barbed Wire Cutters? Right?
