My rule of thumb for any of my choirs, not just show choirs, I remove myself as conductor whenever there is a timekeeper. Drums kick in and control time? I’m off stage, my dynamics are memorized and the time is controlled outside of my cues. This is also true for my former middle school groups who sing to track, there’s no way I’d try to fight a cd for control of music, at least a drum can (theoretically) listen to your cues. Pretty much it’s true for all our music with the exception of the acapella in the middle of our competition. I will always conduct that for tradition even when it has a time and count they’ve memorized. Beyond that... I just want to see the choirs set.
