what i find so interesting about the epithet of satan in islam, iblis is that “the Arabic word 'Iblees' is derived from the noun 'Iblaas', which means despair, remorse, and grief”. But also: in surah Araf verse 17 “ Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them and on their right and on their left, and You will not find most of them grateful [to You]."” he threatens, aims to make humans most ungrateful, not just disbelieve, which is what you’d expect, but ungrateful. and its even more intwined with his title: iblis: despair; greif. despair attacking from all sides, with the goal of making one most ungrateful. Thats one of the major ways I view the Devil in islam. despairing. and the purpose of despair, the purpose of gratefulness, the reasoninf for why they exist and what they serve, if everything has a reason, is really great to contemplate and connect to each other.

In my life as a Christian I have met many who blame Satan or are quick to BUT when you really talk to them, most believe that all humans are capable of sin without external influence. There is however the reading from Ephesians 6: 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. The bible informs us that there is more to some of the evils we see, not everything is as simple as we might imagine. Our faith is a belief in the spiritual and the power in that. Yeshua casting out demons further proves to us that there are spirits that can take control and ruin peoples lives. I understand that the bible speaks in parables and in poetic ways to explain things and makes references like put on the armour of God, well that armour isn't a physical armour metal helmets but since Christ cast out demons and they spoke as they left, we can say that the bible is teaching us that devils do take over people. We also see in Mathew 12: from 23 onwards, People claiming that Yeshua is doing miracles in the power of "Beelzebub the prince of devils" so there was an understanding that there is a hierarchy in the spirit world. Still there is a difference between devils and this character of Satan. It's an interesting topic and it was great to hear the different perspectives. I think it could go deeper depending on the kinds of questions you ask. Just to add that, I have met Christians and heard from Jews who argue that at least the garden of Eden is a metaphorical story to teach, I don't know what that view would make of the characters in the story, if they're real or fictional.

Being christian means the DAILY decision to take up your cross and follow Him. I personally believe that everything was created and happens for a reason. This life was given to us as a test, and if you pass the test, you are rewarded with the afterlife in Heaven. Where if you fail this test, the consequence would be Hell. Satan, as an evil creation, I believe, was made just as any creation with free will. Just as how each human/person has their own thoughts and feelings that God has gifted as free will, Satan or Iblis also had free will, and he chose to use that free will to disobey God. The consequence of that would be banished from God’s presence, to Hell. Jinns, just as humans were given free will. As for angels, they have no free will and their sole purpose is to obey God’s words. Satan has always had this pride over the creation of human because he believes that he is more powerful. Which isn’t all false, he does have power. The power of temptation and harm. His plan, I believe, is to lead astray those who are looking for God, want God, and have found God. Even those who believe in God and have found Him, can still be tempted. Although Satan’s temptations can be VERY tempting and difficult to resist, it is up to us to resist and continue in the path that God has set out to us to follow to be able to reach Him and Heaven. This life has many temptations, but we must know the wrong from the right, and the truth from the lie. This doesn’t mean be strict and strictly ONLY do what you need to do to enter Paradise.
