Great video - get's right to the point, explains the various methods well, and the graphics are helpful. Perfect! Only minor additions I would add is that cold enfleurage is once again a commercial process that now uses vegetable fats to replace the tallow/lard of the traditional process, and that there is also hot enfleurage which is the traditional process originating from Eqypt, thousands of years ago, in which the fats and petals are melted together at very low temperature, and then later melted again so that the plant material can be strained out. It might also be worth mentioning that the result of either approach to enfleurage is not essential oil, but the scented fat (called 'pomade'). If it is desired to get the essential oils out, another step is required.
Thank you for your thoughtful and informative comment, Stephen! We are glad you found the video helpful and appreciate your additional insights about cold enfleurage and hot enfleurage method. You're absolutely right about the modern use of vegetable fats in cold enfleurage, which is a more ethical and sustainable alternative to the traditional use of animal fats like tallow or lard. This update is a significant development in the world of natural perfumery. Your additional information contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of these traditional perfume-making techniques. Thanks for sharing, and we hope it helps others who watch the video!
I did the last method almost a year ago with my neighbors lilacs and some lard that I rendered. I used it in my goat milk soap and it was perfect! Light and dainty scent. I usually just make them unscented so it was a nice change of pace.
Thanks for sharing this. I tried the method of soaking the plant in oil for a while and then filtering the mixture and it worked to some extent. What is your opinion.
Repeat the process with same oils and new plant material. By doing this you can increase the concentration of plant material in the oil. I hope this helps.
For the hydro distillation, what condition should the herbs be in? I have dried lavender and want to use that. Is it better to have live plants, or is using dry herbs just as fine?
Hydro distillation can be done with both fresh and dried herbs, so using your dried lavender should work perfectly fine! In fact, dried herbs are often used in distillation processes as they can be stored more easily and have a longer shelf life compared to fresh herbs. If needed you can apply this simple logic - If the need is to capture just the aromatic component of the flower use distillation process, but in case of certain medicinal herbs we also need the non aromatic component from the herb - in such cases we think making a decoction will be more suitable.
Hello! This video impressed me with its simplicity and quality. I would like to use it for my project. Can I translate your video into Kazakh language? It’s just for educational purposes and link will be provided.
Steam distillation is the most commonly used distillation method to extract essential oils. However, the cost calculation can only be done after you select the aromatic crop to be distilled & also the yield percentage of the plant. I hope we are able to satisfy your query.
Co2'farty gaseous😊method plus alcohol in it to purify is fine same as good edible plant oils are infusion to create natural fragrant creamslotions without harm to health
CO2 is not converted into a liquid state. Saying this opens to door to the false idea that it is liquid CO2. It is converted into a supercritical fluid state. Where it acts more like a gas. It is also very dangerous due to the extreme pressures and high temps, leading to explosion risks. Mainly at the end when improperly opening a chamber without releasing pressure. It is another state of matter such as solids, gases, liquids, supercritical fluids, and plasmas.
Our effort is to educate the audience in easy to understand language. Sometimes it is difficult to explain complex technical terms to a wider audience. I hope you understand.
Ethanol is based cally alcohol better because alcohol is antiseptic, clean hygienic, now with abundance of plants fruits its foolish to price them so high just for certain circles,
The problem is that it’s not improved your video, it’s made it harder to understand! AI will never bring you the natural cadences a human can and will sound so much warmer, personable and easier to follow. It’s a great video, AI is never going to match it. :)

Yes but cold pressed option is mostly used for fixed oils or carrier oils.

Sure please go ahead. attribution requested.
Doesn’t the oil get denatured due to heat?
It's oil , not protein, oils have really high boiling point , which is not achieved by water or vapours
what is the usual time taken for press extraction?
It depends on the process and material used
Very useful
Thanks

Such a shame AI was used to narrate this, a real human voice would have made it so much easier and more pleasant to listen to
I totally feel you girl , literally wasn't able to capture or remember anything. On my second take now paying more attention lol
Use of AI voice was a rational choice & we don't see anything wrong in it. Being a voice over artist we understand your point of view as well.
The problem is that it’s not improved your video, it’s made it harder to understand! AI will never bring you the natural cadences a human can and will sound so much warmer, personable and easier to follow. It’s a great video, AI is never going to match it. :)
Point taken penelope.thanks for sharing this insight. I'll definately look into it.
