Ricciardo underperformed at McLaren and so far he has underperformed at RB. Based on results he doesn't deserve a seat and needs to prove that he can be consistently good again instead of just having the odd good race now and then.

Yeah but the DTS Danny boy fanboys don't like reality. He was shown the door by McLaren and now Oscar is doing extremely well in the second year. Yuki is kicking his backside and Danny gets a good qualifying and everyone thinks he's back. He was lucky to even get to Red Bull as his team mate, Jean-Éric Vergne, beat him in 2012 and some could say only lost to Danny due to the number of retirements in 2013.

Danny Ric should just make the move to NASCAR really. Between him being a known fan of the series, V8 Supercar guys coming in and increasing interest in Aussie drivers lately, and Haas folding his NASCAR team after this year and freeing up charters for other teams to expand, he'd have no trouble landing a ride for a season. Personally I'd rather like to see him do well in some other series than stumbling around at the back of the F1 grid with no direction or realistic chance of winning.

In my opinion, DR's speed isn't hindered by other drivers or any particular setup. It's more about his deliberate approach and the comfort zone he chooses to operate within. As it stands, driving an F1 car has become less challenging, resulting in the time gap between the fastest and the slowest drivers being reduced to milliseconds. In such a competitive environment, your teammate can sometimes be your biggest rival. If the car isn't ready to achieve pole position but you push it as if it were, you risk crashing or inadvertently revealing your lap times to your teammate. Naturally, you wouldn't want to give away your advantages, would you? Think again!

Sure the team are going to praise him for his “off-track contributions” but if anything that is a sign that the team have little to praise about his on-track performance.

These comments are so funny lmao Redbull isn't looking for someone to challenge Max. They are looking for someone who has a similar driving style to match the car but won't pick fights with Max. Perez is being held on due to his loyalty and sponsorships. With Daniel, it is the same deal except he has a one over on Perez by having a driving style that is more in line with Max's.
That's it. That's the whole deal. It doesn't matter how much better Tsunoda is. He is not going to get in while Horner is at the helm of Redbull. Neither is Sainz for that matter.
This isn't a driving-focused meritocracy. Team politics play as much if not an even greater factor in all this.

He is at a team that is supposed to be focused on rookie drivers, and yet they are taking a seat away from a rookie to keep Ricardo in the sport. He is already in a seat he doesn't belong in, so the pressure to prove he's worth it is going to be stronger.

Helmut Marko did just say that the RB team is STILL meant to be a place to develop drivers for RBR. Whether he still has the power to make this happen for Liam, and considering the poll results, most of us hope he does, is another question. The power struggle over there is hurting them in so many ways. The Checo signing is just not justifiable

In my view, Redbull's Junior Program suffered when Dr. Marko brought in Sergio P., on the verge of leaving as no team desires him, notably is not a member of the program. After Daniel R. left, Pierre Gasly was promoted but quickly dismissed before proving himself, a situation Alex A. also faced, despite his talent from Redbull's Junior team. Regarding new drivers, Yuki is backed by Honda, leaving little choice for either party. No one else has been good since then. WHHHHYYYYY??????

I think not. He's capable of doing good but not often enough kinda like Stroll. But the fact Lawson is on the side lines is wrong and Ricciardos had his time so time to giv a young driver a chance. Is there a rule against forcing a driver not to race and replacing that driver with another driver for one race? If not then Daniel and Yuki should get a go in the Red Bull.

His attitude after his one off performance is his biggest issue. He becomes so complacent and comfortable after it that he ends up back to square one again. Partial blame can be blamed on the media such as people as Lawerance Barreta who put on a campaign to bring him back. But just as all the drivers he needs to shoulder the blame and take accountability for all his shortcomings.
His best seat was at Haas where he isn’t clogging a line of young drivers like he is currently.
If he truly has been a great input on car development then why doesn’t the team just put him as a reserve role for a race or two to motivate him? He lacks the desire and urgency to perform.

It’s not fair to say he was only winning against Vettel who was past his peak, Vettel was the reigning World Champion. An 18 year old Verstappen was still a race winner. You can only beat who is on track with you. By that measure you could argue that Verstappen’s 2nd and 3rd Championships were not impressive because he was only beating a terrible team mate.
Fact is, Ricciardo is a race winner. He’s fast on his day, and modern F1 requires a lot more value outside of the car, and Ricciardo brings that in bags!!
I’m a big Ricciardo fan, but I do agree his performances on track over the last few seasons have not deserved to be kept on. But then you could say the same about half the grid

I think we need to start thinking about ideal driver and team pairings based on both drivers of a team having the same driving style and preferences, otherwise it massively hinders car development with 2 drivers pulling in different directions, or at the least, developing in one drivers favour at the detriment of the other.
Some teams can handle this better than others too

I mean, if anyone knows about overstaying their welcome in F1, it's Jacques Villeneuve. It's not like the points he made haven't been made before or that they aren't valid but for some reason he also opted for revisionism of Ricciardo's career, saying things that just aren't true. And he's been dunking on him for years, so I would like to know what Villeneuve's beef with Ricciardo is exactly. And I don't know how much it is true but I read from French viewers that he is absolutely insufferable at times as a commentator for Canal+.
Do I think Ricciardo deserves the spot at RB? I lean more to no than yes but what does deserve even mean in F1, when you have the likes of Stroll in there. But I definitely agree he needs to get his head on straight and show consistently the skill we've only seen glimpses of in the past few seasons.

And pretty puuuhlease, can we stop this pathetic Bearman hyping?
Seriously, no sponsor backing to speak of (which, I hear, is a BIG thing for Haas), his "marketability" worth little more than SFA and, as if this isn't bad enough already, he's well on track of getting trashed in F2 by his teammate for the second year running. Oh, and smashing his car into the barriers at the last race weekend was a surefire way to refresh Haas' memories of their recent rookie debacle with Schumacher and Marzipan.
No, Haas won't touch Bearman with a bargepole... unless they're desperately trying to prove Einstein's definition of stupidity wrong. 😉

What if Isack Hadjar wins F2 and Ayumu Iwasa finishes in the top 3 in Super Formula? Are they just going to line up as reserve drivers?
What if Max suddenly retires or moves to another team, or Checo retires? And Yuki moves to AM? They should prepare for the four seats that need to be filled.

The expectation for Danny Ric was at one point comparable to that of the champs, or potential champs. The way we look at Lando & Charles. The expectation for Logan or Kmag was never that high. So from that lens I really do think he’s driving just as bad those two. Yuki has scored for 55% of the season so far and DR3 11%. That’s not acceptable for someone of that expectation. The car is clearly capable.
