'Automatic' and 'Transnational' are essentiallyy sister albums, even down to the album art, and have similarities that are more obvious than those between any two of their other albums. I'm pretty sure this concert was filmed not long after the release of the latter. Combine that with the fact that up to this point, Ronan had said he was proudest of Automatic, and you get a lot of songs from those two albums in this concert, and, by proxy, a lot of songs that sound pretty similar. But in reality, I wouldn't say they're one-note. Their latest album, Noire, marked the beginning of an entirely new stylistic era for them, I'd check it out, along with Empires and Automatic to get a taste for each style they've used. edit: I'm using "they/their" pretty liberally here. Ronan does everything from writing to programming to marketing, so it's fair to say VNV is essentially a one man band
