Radiator repair and restoration

  • I bought an electric #radiator on a local website for $20. It's an old simple Siemens design. Once often used in households. I started the #repair of the by searching for the spiral because the one inside was damaged. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a suitable high temperature logo sticker, so I decided to do it in the form of a template. The radiator will serve as an exhibit, especially since electricity is very expensive today 😀

    Wow, that is an awesome job you did restoring that old radiator. It looks like a brand-new appliance, and it works like a charm, too. Excellent work as usual.

    Every time I see a video like this it reminds of how dangerous old household electrical appliances used to be.

    • @karsten0023
      @karsten0023 Год назад +3

      I had that thought too. If you go to the trouble of restoring such a device, you should completely replace the electrical system, i.e. also install a protective earth conductor and replace the open wires with insulated ones. In this condition, the device is life-threatening.

      If it’s being restored for display you’d probably want to keep it original.

      Modern devices also have anti tip over switches to automatically turn the heater off if it should fall over. Little wonder there were so many house fires back then.

      It's true that it's very easy to get burned or electrocuted.

      You are right, however, this device will not be used as intended, but rather as an exhibit.

    Excellent restoration. Thank you.
    However, being a metal case, it should have a ground or Earth connection for safety. This is something that would not have been on the original but which should be fitted for protection against a live case.

    So you only installed the one element. Somewhere they have to have the ceramic to replace the other one that was broken... Could even go to a ceramic hobby place and have them make one for you. Just a thought. Thumbs Up!

    Провод для внутренних соединений нужно было взять в термостойкой изоляции. Оголённая медь не выглядит безопасно в сетевом устройстве.
