It's important to note that Morgana belongs to the Magician archetype. Like all Magician characters, Morgana is meant to have the character flaw of immaturity. When Junpei and Yosuke from P3&4 respectively did the SAME THING, I didn't hear anyone complaining. Morgana's desire to be with Ann is rooted in his desire to be seen as an adult. That no one understood this is very telling of how well players actually pay attention. Morgana is MEANT to come off as childish. The cocky, arrogant attitude he shows to the party is a facade to hide his insecurity around not knowing who he is for most of the game. It is only when he is alone with Joker during his confidant events do we see who Morgana actually is. And as the living embodiment of Hope, Morgana's desire to be human, to be with Ann is meant to represent the hopes that can never be. As Lavenza laments, Morgana's fate is bittersweet. Just as the character Morgan Le fay for which he's named, Morgana was the one who guided Joker to humanity's collective hope, P5's narrative equivalent to the sword Excalibur. Most of Morgana's hate really only comes from the west, where as in Japan, he's easily one of the most popular characters in the game. Considering that the west is slowly turning on Yosuke in the mists of the recent resurfacing of P4G, it seems that the west hates the magician characters....for being magicians. Likely hitting too close to home due to many of them also wanting to be seen as "adults".
I'll be honest. I was... or maybe still AM a Yosuke hater to some extent, but I've always loved Junpei and Morgana for their character arcs and the immaturity that clings to them. IIRC The first time I found myself liking Yosuke at all was watching the P4 anime or Persona 4 Arena game. When I did Yosuke's POV in the Arena game, I saw a different perspective from him that I wasn't expecting and I guess it was probably due to the fact that he was separated from his friend group in another world while helping Labrys on his own in that chapter. So yeah, I had mixed feelings about him. Not for his own arc in the OG game, but mainly the immature jabs towards others in the main story. I know better than to think his negative moments represents him as a whole, but some parts grinded my gears personally. Edit: I think another moment I liked from him was that one part where he stood up against his bad employees that took advantage of him. I guess that was the point where he felt more honest and not like a butt-munch in my eyes ^^;
I see Morgana as the mentor type who at first is the PT guide but when the PT come into their own his self-doubt starts coming into play. However when he returns he keeps the PT grounded aka make sure they don’t let it get to their head. What I mean is, you know how every workplace has that person who has the most experience thus if you ever need help or start to lose yourself, Morgana is that person. Remember when Yaldaboath had the PT at his mercy who stood up first and made a rallying cry: Morgana.
I appreciate someone defending morgana as while i do think he is the weakest written phantom thief i do think he gets over hated. Although he is still annoying af to me especially since Ryuji is my favorite character and that naturally puts you against Morgana I do think this has helped me to dial back my hate for him a little bit
I just figured that Morgana was swept up by the mind control in Maruki's world just like everyone else and that's why he wasn't exempt from the temporary character degression. Being disappointed in Morgana for falling for that is like asking why did Lavenza not remember that she wasn't born as two individual people until way later. If anything, Lavenza being controlled by Yaldabaoth and Igor disappearing for a portion of the story shows that Velvet Room residents are not untouchable to outside forces, so I never made the assumption that Morgana wouldn't be affected by Maruki's influence.
What I really dislike about him from a gameplay perspective is that once Yusuke joins the group I take Morgana out and use him maybe once for the rest of the game. His damage isn’t great, and between Ann, Makoto, and Joker you have more than enough healing to go around. It’s sad the while everyone else has something they can do really well, Morgan just doesn’t.
That's the point, Morgana is a "jack of all trades, master of none" type of character. His strength is in his versatility as opposed to doing any one specific thing well. Morgana is effectively what the player makes him. The issue of course, is that Morgana's strongest abilities are RNG. Ann's heal is single target, Makoto's healing doesn't match Morgana's until later on, nor can she revive party members if they're downed. And while Joker can do literally ANYTHING better than the rest of the party, why waste Joker on healing when it's better for Joker to be offensive? Morgana isn't terrible, he just requires facilitation.
Meh. When I was 10, I played Kingdom Hearts 2 when it dropped for PS2 and well, the whole Roxas stuff took me around 5-8 hours. Even worse after Roxas is gone and you're back to Sora you get a black screen and a splash logo for the game... a title card. KH2 easily has the most stretched out tutorial I've ever seen. P5 not that bad. Once you get the deadline for the 1st palace you're free to play however you want.
Morgana was crucial to the formation to the Phantom Thieves. Without him, the Phantom Thieves would not be.
