Hi everyone, thank you for your comments! It’s not the fault of the event organiser, I think a lot of people that attended were inexperienced like myself and didn’t know what to expect. I think watching too many plant swap videos on RUclips gave me a unrealistic expectation (as social media can do) so I went a little overboard. The Calethea cutting and peperomia cuttings didn’t survive sadly but the other plants did and they’re looking great 🤩 It was so lovely to meet fellow plant lovers in person though as I’m so used to sharing my love for plants over social media 🪴😊 Thanks again for all the love, I really appreciate it 💛
I don't think I will ever do a plant swap after watching this. I will simply purchase the plants I'm interested in and add them to my happy home. As they multiply I will repot and give away for special occasions. I don't do well with selfish folks. Sorry that happened to you.
I think because I was expecting something different having done some RUclips ‘research’ before, I was surprised to be honest. However the plants I got that are still with me a week later are really lovely and the tradescantia is rooting very well 🤩
Hi Abi. Thanks for sharing your learning experience with us. I have never been to a plant swape either but this has tought me a lesson to avoid an unfair swap. Your so sweet and positive but i hate people didn’t do a fair trade with you. The string of buttons is beautiful I have one and love it! 💚
What a shame this wasn't organised and run better so that everyone got a fair trade, I guess it just shows you do have to be slightly wary with these things as people won't always be quite so generous. I've never actually been to a plant swap, but I'm glad I watched this because if I ever do I'll know to be super cautious. The plants you put in were GORGEOUS and I'm sorry you didn't get ones back that you deserved 💚
Ps. Abi with the peperomia frost, if you chop the leaf in half, pot both halves in soil, water it regularly, cover in clingfilm and leave it somewhere bright it'll pop out new growth in no time (best method I've found so far) x
i thought the plant swaps were people asked if you would swap and then they gave you something worth the same as you are giving , that leaf from the calathea is just a leaf you need a division of the plant to have any success , the succulents are worth around £2 each and i have a number of panda plants i could have sent you one , you can get succulents in wilkos for £2 and £3 full plants , the watermelon leaves are just leaves , they may grow but may rot ,i feel so sorry for you that people took advantage of you , they could have cut your big plant up between them and had node cuttings and given you node cuttings in exchange and you could have took back the original plant same with the hoya , i think you got about £5 worth of plants for about £50 or more from you , so sad , i am in liverpool have about 200 plants and if you want to do a swap that would be lovely , :o)
I'm very suprised that no one said something about the fact everyone brought cuttings and you had full plants. I would've honestly ask you 1000x if you were sure about it and feel very guilty for taking a full plant if all I brought was cuttings. Considering it is meant to be a plant community, regardless of the level of knowledge, I'd expect that they themselves would've suggested coming back next time with cuttings and to take your full plants back, I don't know... Bringing random leaves snapped off... I hope you are lucky and actually succeed with all of them, especially the one without the node. That would make an interesting video later on. I've never done a plant swap before, and like you, I'm shy so I am thankful I got to see this video!
I’m sorry, but you were robbed. I’ve watched several plant swaps and this is not how it’s supposed to go. Most plant swaps are a mixture of full plants and some already rooted cuttings or ones that will definitely root. You’re supposed to swap with someone that has something you want so you both get either equal size/value or just something you both really wanted. It should never be taken without permission first. Don’t know if you watch Summer Rayne Oakes but she’s organised loads of plant swaps and there are actual rules so that it’s fair on everyone. Please check that there are rules in place before you go to another one because I’m kind of angry for you after watching this 😢😅
I agree - I'm angry. I would never take a cutting when I know I had nothing of equal value to trade. Whoever took the full plants and the Sunrise cuttings should be ashamed of themselves. Same for whoever brought leaves that can't be rooted.
Well shucks! Sorry about your experience. I wonder about the organization of the swap. That second plant was stunning, though, the string of something or another...
You were screwed over. They were supposed to trade with a fair value plant and ask for your permission instead of just grabbing your plants and have you fend for yourself. It was like a battlefield where only the strong survived. Not cool!
I agree. They were your plants until you agreed to trade. Blows my mind people just took plants from someone else without making sure they themselves had something to trade for it.
@@minhja4924 like what's the point? A leaf that will never grow roots is essentially worthless, why even bring it? I've always wanted to attend a swap, but I'm turned off now
❤️❤️❤️ sounds like you have fun😜👍 Hm it is bad sport to just bring a leave without node to swap (except peperomia which can grow from just a leave). I suggest perhaps you should talk to the organiser about stopping people bringing leaf that can’t grow into plants to swap. I’ve seen swap meet happened in USA. A few form Summer Rayne Oak. They have a system in place for if one one bring cutting etc etc. People are really bringing good plant to trade. I think the organise should check all of the plant bringing in. ❤️❤️❤️
Abi, being watching you for a while now. You are such a nice young lady and have amazing plants, but we all see how badly people took advantage of you. There is no reason to be so shy and I hope you learned something from this. That leaf is probably croton, you can propagate. Calatheas can be propagated only by root division. I grow many and if do swaps those, go only with rooted cutting which is good size, because they are very fussy plants, probably not even worth buying anything smaller than 3 inches x
I think its a bit cheap just to cut off some single leafs of maybe even dropped off leafs and present them as cuttings or leafcuttings while you bring actual plants and cuttings. it is supposed to be a plantswap right, not a (leaf)cuttings swap. At least they could have given more than just 1 leaf to increase the succesrate
I live in the Netherlands and have traded cuttings via a website by sending them. Not everyone takes as much care in packaging and sending the plants as I do and that was such a disappointment sometimes. I think I would do the same thing. I'd rather take actual little plants to a swap than cuttings. Especially when those plants are cheap and easy to grow. Just because I would like it better and would assume other people think the same way. That crassula looked good tho! I have a large string of buttons and it's become one of my favorite plants:)
8:46 i think is a tradescantia tiana - i think it’s really pretty! i do agree with other comments that you didn’t get the fairest trades for the size of plants you brought, but if you had fun that’s good 🤗 also the video just cut off for me at the end? not sure if it’s something wrong on my end!
Your Sunrise hoya is a red ticket item. All you got were a few lifeless leaves. What a cruel joke! These planty people should be ashamed of themselves.
Hi Abi, i felt so disappointed and so sorry for you you had such unfair plant swap experience. I am in the same Leeds plant swap group on fb as you and i saw the post about this plant swap but i didn't go, i was kind of expecting people will bring spider plant or tradescantia cuttings. Sometimes i have a good laugh when people offer variagated monstera for swaps and others want to swap it for a spider plant or a golden pothos...
Hi Rita! You could tell it was definitely my first time. I think watching plant swaps on RUclips I got the wrong idea of them. It was so nice to meet other planty folk IN PERSON ! 🤩
Your expectations were not unrealistic - this is definitely not how swaps usually go. It's usually done on a 1-on-1 basis where you essentially trade with someone if you're interested in what they have, and vice versa. The way they just swooped in and took your full plants without having an equal trade is incredibly rude and is not how it should usually happen. I hope this doesn't discourage you from attending future swaps.
This really made me angry !! U r so naive.. those pots , hoya were way more worthy than wat u got.. but as u said its lesson learnt .. I had a similar experience where I sent sone cuttings for the maranta leuconeura kerchoviana. I sent 3 cuttings, some rooted, some fresh and was sent a 2 leaf cutting without the node.. it literally came in a match box!!
The moment I saw the psychedelic spread I knew these people are vultures. Who takes cuttings to plant swaps without nodes? What a pathetic excuse. On another note, you were really generous and gracious.

Yeh Summer organises great swap events. This is just dog breakfast . What the heck. Just swoop in like vultures ???? Lol
Yeh it is annoying such selfish people. the organiser just let whatever happened. That is no plant swap I have ever seen

What a shame but like you said lesson learned. I'm in York and was planning to go to my first one in a few weeks hoping it goes slightly smoother 🤞
The leaf with the nice markings on it, could it be aglonema camouflage, Or am I completely wrong?
