    what was your reasoning with using two different sources : Borax and Boric Acid ?

      My understanding is that boron is the key to preserving wood against rot and bugs. I don't have a definitive answer for using both but I believe one form is basic and one is acidic - using both may create a solution that does not crystalize as quickly when mixed with water prior to application... not completely sure though. It may also improve stability and shelf life once it is cooked up (so far the syrup shows no signs of having an expiration date).

      I will try to boil during better weather next time… and that pot is never getting used for food cooking ever again; I’m getting older - I’m entering the smoked meat life phase now 😉

      @@samuelwiltzius I started cold smoking ham and salami 5 years ago. There is nothing that tastes better.
