    Town Council's sadly have become corporate for profit businesses, .. rather than community witans of wise public servant volunteers, .. that truly love and care for their communities, customs and heritage, .. if all the people of our communities could get more organised, we could lawfully take back all our communities under our natural unalienable common law constitutional principles and perhaps protect all our heritage in trust, .. We could save, do up and protect all our most loved and treasured community buildings, .. through volunteer maintenance, we could really listen to everyone in the community and help solve any and all the problems, we could restore pride to our town, promote our rich cultures of singing, history, poetry, food, music, literature, performance entertainment, attract and promote tourism, become a leisure activity hub and encourage enterprise to help generate a bit of income for our communties, support our local independent businesses more, help educate and give worthwhile activities and opportunies to the younger generations and everyone, help end poverty, loneliness, help fill in all the pot holes, train our police/peace constables properly, help end all anti-social issues, help end all vandalism, ..

      The loss of EU regional funding naturally causes Wales to decline. The UK hasn't established any alternatives for the funding. Regions now have to become self-sufficient or decline. Money-making centres get richer as they do not have to share with the regions. Therefore, it's easier to buy new properties in beautiful areas and inflate local prices without benefitting old-timers. For the first time, it's bizarre that the Baltic states under the EU became richer GDP per capita than Wales without the EU.

    Lower rents and tax rates, give people the opportunity to do business for the prosperity of the local economy, all parties will be able to enjoy the common good, both residents of Newtown and surrounding residents. If Newtown becomes a ghost town, the council and Government should be blamed for this because they have no vision and idea to develop this small town, they only know how to collect taxes from the people's low income.

    I feel like I should point out that there are so many factors that contribute to this & they're not _all_ political.
    For example -it's a matter of fact that travel agents are an anachronism in 2023.
    For another example up until fairly recently I used to be a fairly regular consumer of print media but when my paper of choice starts to nudge £3 per day then sadly I'm priced out of the game - which is a loss which I pass onto my local newsagent.
    & for another example if you're the sort who would sooner order everything you ever need from Amazon & uber eats whilst you sit in bed then you can't pretend to be surprised when a town centre dies.

Lets spell it out shall we, just like that 70s song; T E S C O. Perhaps not that one vast Tesco alone but he sum of all the large supermarkets in Newtown. There are too many, how could the small town centre ever stand a chance, with , how many, 5 superstores sucking all of that trade away. The Tesco alone is a behemoth that doubles as a department store.

    The rents are ridiculous. Bear Lanes- £1000pcm for one of those shops. That's why they're all empty and have been for years. As for homeworkers 'claiming' more, that's not accurate. Covid showed that office based work can be done at home. Staff are more productive too as they prefer to be at home. Cheaper for the workforce to work at home, so they get rid of the expensive offices. It's a saving for the council, but that saving should be put back into the community.

    • @darrenchristian141
      @darrenchristian141 Год назад

      Covid was a Leftist ploy to kill off the town centres...if your unaware Drakeford and Welsh govt are busy buying up as much farmland as possible, then re letting it as ANYTHING but farming . See the Netherlands and Canada , both left led countries who have been systematically trying to kill agriculture, in the laughable claim of saving the planet ...the cashless utopia idea of the new wave of champagne socialists is sickening , one of wealthiest people in Newtown is now a non British resident who is buying pubs and turning them into cash farms by letting to immigrants etc . Newtown rent and rates have always been a problem, and only getting worse due to a single estate agent now having a nigh on monopoly on rental properties..

    I stayed in Newtown in the mid '90's on a motorbike holiday. It was one of the most pretty and thriving towns I'd ever been to, so much so that I still consider moving up that way someday.
    As usual though, Wales always gets it in the ass from the Government. This isn't a problem unique to Wales though, I lived in Cambridge all my life and that is going the same way. The rents are absolutely ludicrous, as are the business rates and when you combine that with the cost of living, the whole thing is unsustainable.
