What kind of temperature drops did you notice after the change (under no load, under load) and is this quieter than the stock fan? I've been having like 70C CPU temp while doing nothing, I'm going to clean some dust out but there's not much dust to begin with. I might wanna buy this but spending $80 + learning to apply thermal paste and everything (never did it) is something I don't want to do unless it reduces heat significantly and hopefully sound. I really appreciate if you could reply with how things are going 7 months later :)
The main cause of the bad cooling with the standard fan is imho not the fan itself but the power rack blocks completely its air intake. The fan can not suck in enough air since the power rack metal housing is blocking any air intake (air exit for pull fan configuration). Leave the power rack out of the way open and you should see an normal cooling. The Inspirons SFF desktops have an large fan upper assembly which is directly against the outer air grid intake. Those should not experiment this issue even with the standard fan.
Thanks for this video. I usually can hear my fan running to max when I am "exporting" or producing a video and was somewhat concerned. I'll have to check the cooling unit out.
Finally got a used heatsink T57JF from Dell, but they forgot to send the fan with it, should get the fan in a few days. whole thing cost $37.00. Was on the phone for 2 hrs to explain what I needed.

One thing I have noticed... Chrome ramps this fan up as well at times, even after you adjust Chrome setting. Stop Chrome and fans drop back down to nearly silent again...
Suggest installing this cooler to XPS 8930. Extra fan unit not a bad idea, IMHO. Also install 120mm top case fan; will need appropriate metal bracket for same, a Dell part. Add a 120mm lower front case fan; will need appropriate plastic bracket for same--a Dell part. Both brackets often sold with OEM 120mm fans on ebay and amazon. Suggest wiring lower front case fan to PSU WITH fan speed reducing cable insert from Noctua; the fan will always run but at reduced (near-silent) speed. Voltage regulator heat sink is the Short-fin version with a notch in the fins for the CPU cooler suggested above. Screw fittings for heat sink already present in MoBo. Doing ALL this should greatly reduce heat problems.
Be aware that in the DELL systems that use this cooling fan, there is an extra heatsink over the board components that are shown to the left about 7:40.
Good catch! It's Dell p/n 639V8 which is a VR heat sink that gets tucked right below the CPU fan. The heat sink is listed on the Dell "product specs" list for XPS 8930's with i7-8700K CPUs. (I confirmed this by finding an 8930 with an i7-8700K off eBay and then typing the service tag into the Dell website.) It seems that the heat sink is used for i7-7700K CPUs as well. I hope this info helps some other people - better late than never!
@@bovideos9751 Is it a necessary part for this upgrade? In other words, if I put in the upgraded heat sync and fan, will there be any adverse effects by leaving out p/n 639V8?

So if i buy a new Dell XPS i7 9700 or i9 9900 is it going to die in a year or two because they give you inadequate fans with no room to upgrade the cooling system?
I know this video is from a long time ago, but my fan is getting louder, so thought I'd try upgrading. Does this require any settings change, or do you just plug it in where the old fan was and fire it up? Thank!
Man, that T57JF heatsink is hard to find! Manage to get the KTDJC fan directly from Dell through chatting with customer support for $10.94. Sadly, they don't have the heatsink available. Thanks for the video and information!!
That Corsair cooler works really well with the 8700 but you will need adapters to not just fool the fan speed feedback. It's not hard but rather clumsy. That option you got is actually fitted in the slimline optiplexes. It's not a bad option as it will likely cool much, much better. There is just not enough room between the power supply and the stubby heatsink. A very thoughtful, but flawed design. In the 8700 this area is all open, and the stock cooler mostly works well. It still wasn't effective enough for our tastes. I replaced mine with an Intel i7 K heatsink with copper pipes, and fans. Purrs like a cat under stress. Sorry just saw this message. The case is so tight there isn't much more you can do. There may be upper fans you can buy but you'd be limited to the same size as the original so you'd have to try to find one with the same dimensions that perhaps spins at a faster speed or has a steeper pitch on the blades or both... If you are using this for gaming don’t get the coolermaster 212 you won’t be able to close it
XPS with a "K" CPU comes with the better heatsink
with the better heatsink you still have to limit it to 3.9GHz if you dont want it to be noisy in gaming.
Nice video, I temporary solved this same issue by limiting the CPU to 4Ghz, my main concern was noise and not temp, CPU does throttle down if it's to hot so. Where did u get this cooler from?
Got it off ebay.
Nice Job. And Wondershare Filmora X Editor is Better than Powerdirector For Video Editing Good. My Felt.
Thanks great got 8930 xps system to my pc good order Self that have good year dell good bit kit lap tops any of products happy 2021
just upgrade the power supply to a corsair 650 watts, fits like a glove in there atx of course.
Upgrade power supply why?
Why do people even consider getting dell products?
Dunno really....stupid designs, stupid limits, thermals, noises.... For that video I would put that aio on this cpu, better and quieter option 🤷
Nice
when upgrading the case for the xps 8930, do I have to upgrade the motherboard. can I just replace everything in the PC onto another case?
enderlul yes you can transfer everything you just have to go to dell website and see where things go
Should have gone with the AIO.
Geez, you spend that amount of money and still have these types of problems... I thought I had found the perfect video editing PC but maybe not so
I want one!!
I just put a front fan in mine SOLVED!

@@brentbradley6711 that guy doesnt have a video card and i have a 1070 looks like i may have to go that route but with a thinner fan ...would i still benefit ? My card will block most of the airflow from where the cpu is at
@@ultra78721 That's mine and the is a card in it, just do what I did.

hopefully it fits, the video card i have, the 1070 card goes past the sata ports ..a little past the upper frond drive housing
same with the dell 5680 gaming desktop. i went with the cooler master vortex plus. looks like your power supply is suffocating the fan. ruclips.net/video/jEMsL1zBsBw/видео.html
Muito bom!!!
