The first ever pimped matatu was called Concord on the westlands route way back in 1983. It was a Nissan and Nairobi has never looked back...Yes I'm that old. Not many of you are old enough to correct me.😌
🤣🤣 Jasper, wazee hukumbuka! It was the strangest thing to see on the road the first time you saw it on the way to Kangemi. From there the matatu industry was never the same.
Being an Interior designer and someone in architecture world, I love it when people cant really tell the pattern of thoughts in my designs. For example, The way CBK Pension Towers was finished at the top, You may think its unfinished but its complete as per the design and functioning. Also I find it fun when a building looks somehow average but when you get inside you are surprised how marvelous it looks. Thanks for your wonderful review on your experience in Kenya.
greed for money by landlords, they try to minimize the cost by escaping the finishing up expenses. Developers build high apartments to recover the cost they bought the land. Plots outside Nairobi are even very expensive. A 50 by 100 feet plot could go up to Kshs 5 million (UShs 150 million) so building apartments with many floors helps to recover the costs.
Harriet come back again. We love you. Next time visit Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret, Nanyuki, Kakamega, Kisii, Naivasha, Meru ..... and the list is endless. You're very welcome again. Bring me a cute Ugandan lady, please 😢

Harriet, the shopping bags are deliberately for buying to encourage recycling. It will be expensive to any shopper who keeps on buying shopping bags each and every time, such that the next visit you go with your own bag, buy or carry your stuff without the bag.
As soon as you got to the point about Kenyan men loving Ugandan women I knew what it was about...😅 It's mostly about the nyash. But aside from that, speaking from personal experience the Ugandan ladies I've met over the years especially in Uni were friendly & very easy going. Karibu Kenya tena, Harriet.

The reason the packaging bag are sold in Kenya is to encourage reusing them, they are expensive and if they are given for free people will be throwing them away thus increasing the cost for business owners. So we encourage people to buy their own bags in order to reuse them again and again. It was a government initiative to minimize environmental pollution and littering.
About food especially when we are eating out we prefer dry food esp when you are not sure of the hygienic standards. But home cooked meals will have soup or a sauce at least.
Sad to see you back home. Anyway, East or West Home is always best. Welcome to Kenya again and again. This is your second home. Hope to meet you on your next visit . We can do a de tour around other cities in kenya. Karibu Konza technopolis City.
M-Pesa was born in Kenya and introduced to Tanzania. We also have LIPA KWA M-Pesa (pay by M-Pesa) in most shops, bars, restaurants, etc. It is an innovative service that has been handy even in rural communities.
Uganda has great potential. Stay the course, be patient and strive for unity of purpose. Meanwhile, we still have a long way to go as Kenyans. I sincerely appreciate your honest review.
As for paperbags, in the earlier years we used to use plastic bags and they were free even at supermarkets. The plastic bags started becoming environmentally unfriendly thus were phased out. Now we have the eco-friendly bags which we buy and are reusable multiple times
Uganda can provide food for all of us but Hawafanyi kazi sana, the place rain like almost daily, there is plenty food for everyone, Kenya is generally semi arid so our food basket aint so big nowonder people are so fast trying to gather everything available, unlike uganda who must eat even if they dont work coz food is always available, so come again en getta used.
Thank you for the positive reviews about Kenya...Mpesa is everywhere! I hardly carry any cash..I can eat, buy anything with Mpesa..no cash. There's also airtel money, similar to Mpesa Matatus(nganyas)... the music is loud but amazing, sometimes you go past your destination 😂 If you want to really see how people move really fast, wake up early in the morning and travel to town!! You'll be shocked The guy who approached you while filming around the Parliament building is probably a security personnel checking on you, I once travelled across Uganda while travelling to Rwanda, Uganda has a lot of food. Ugandans like wet food, we Kenyans mostly like dry foods...am laughing about githeri😂😂😂😂 The polythene bags were prohibited.... We love Ugandans, they're respectful!! Kenyan ladies can never kneel down😂 Ego cannot allow that. Internet is cheap, you can even pay 10/= for 1GB RUclipsr for 3hrs Thank you for the comprehensive review..
About matatu culture started way back in 1980's if iam not wrong. And the idea was/ is to bring comfort and same environment you experience at your house. When you visit a kenyan house something you will notice is well piped music coming out. Next is wifi in almost all the Kenyans houses. Those matatus with music and are super pimped are called Nganyas 👌

When it comes to food, each of the 42 tribes in Kenya have their traditional foods which you will not just find anywhere in the urban centres. Again, not everyone enjoys food with soup and those who prefer having their meals with soup, will request for it if the food is served without soup. I've also seen establishments where they always give soup separately in a bowl to accompany the main dish. I would also like to know the different varieties of foods they've in Uganda for me to understand this hype about Ugandan food...on a lighter note though.
We have momo pay, which is similar to mpesa to buy goods and services, you may just not be informed about it Only that it's not yet widely used compared to Kenya maybe, that's the difference

Kenya is addictive, a certain white man once said he had visited Kenya for six hundred times (600) times. You just feel to visit Kenya now and then.
Having worked with Ugandas in some project 2yrs ago, they were not impressed with our dry foods.
