Started my first playthrough a few days ago. Didn’t know how to increase army cap so had 5 T5 imperial archers and 15 veteran legionaries, a good sword, a good companion and some good gear and money. Fought some mountain bandits but their friends came to help and I still initiated combat. 45 vs 20 and I got it down to 7 vs 3 but then I was knocked out. Everyone died and I was captured. I lost my remaining money on a board game and now I’m destitute and wandering as a vagrant looking to gain back my glory. Gun game but I have lots to learn.
This sounds like how my first playthrough will probably go lol. I bought the game a couple days ago and haven't even really played much, just watching videos. I feel like there's so much to learn lmao
Aside from my tip about area practice the next most important thing I would say to a new player is to avoid looking into exploits, I was glad to see this video deliberately avoided them. If you don't know about them most won't be things you stumble into during the first several hours of playing. But a lot of them once you learn about it can be hard not to use them and they will trivialize the game. Honestly unless you're struggling with a mechanic I would say don't even look into any of the background things that go into it or you'll quickly begin to exploit the game without explicitly being shown how. The scope of this game meant the team had to choose between robust systems or functional systems and they did a really good job if you're just looking to have a fun RP experiance.
Few comments about the Archers Unit Micro section. 1. If you have a big group of archers (100+) often times loose formation would be too big for all your archers to fit, especially in a foresty/bumpy terrain. 2. If you're archers have the highground, putting them behind your infantry could work. Think about the line of sight. If the archers are firing above and behind your infantry, your good. Also, that line of sight could also apply to what formation you have for archers as well. You can make line-formation with archers work as long as they have adequate spacing between.
Great tips! Just started on Ps4 a couple days ago and I am in love with this game!! Definitely struggled to get my bearings in the game but I am moving along nicely now! Thanks for the tips!!
1 huge tip I would give to new players or returning players is to do practice arena fights. They have 0 risk, will let you use a wide variety of weapons, get you some gold, and will let you level up several early combat skills. Just about any time I take a break from the game I'll run a few just to get the handle on combat again. Solo or small skirmishes is definitely better for xp and loot but you can lose if you're new or rusty. Practice arena battles don't even take in game time so you don't have to worry if you keep dying. Just click the go again option and you're right back into it.
I like going to empire towns and practice fighting in the arena. Theres a place to hide in the arena and you can just kill one guy, get his shield, hide away and kill the last guy. Boom, easy 250 denars. Very nice if just starting out.
My first play through is rough. I didn’t realize everyone would declare war on my in the first week of my new kingdom (spent a lot of time cutting off heads from a kingdom that imprisoned me a lot.) and so I made a giant army with my companions (700+ units) and that took some figuring out, but when I go to take my first city I only had 100 troops on the field. It was really upsetting and idk how to fix my troop deployment. That’s how I ended up on this video.
One easy tip ive noticed for leveling up tactics without much risk. Find very full bandit hideouts of any kind. Bring skirmishers with your crew , set them in a line get them to follow and set them to open fire. No idea why but like every 2nd bandit killed by the skirmishers throwing weapons increases your tactics. Unintentionally discovered it in my newest game where i got my tactics skill up to like 40 in the first weeks from just clearing hideouts.
Mine is going excellent. I am beginning to get much better. My plan is to increase relation with the Vlandian leader as much as possible, and then influence the vote for the new one.

Only thing is, the available wanderers are not very skilled (only 1 with 60 medicine, for example) Do more wanderers become available as time goes on? Or am I stuck with 1 scout and 1 medic the whole playthrough?
Got some of them seasoned wolf's onto the wall it was so epic watching them eventually get killed 1by1 but they slaughter the low tier troops beautifully
Khan's guard is not only the best horse archer, it is THE best troop in the game. I completely gave up on archers, as they are so much harder to manage.
I been captured at least 50 times in 3 days. Every time i start building a decent party my faction starts a war with half the kingdoms and im stuck behind enemy territory and eventually bump into a bigger army and get captured. Then i build my party up and create an army to try and take castles but while i siege the castle a stronger army shows up and i get destroyed. Try to stick in the borders or just outside of the borders of your kingdom, use your party to take out enemy parties or small armies that are doing incursions on your land. This way you can build your party experience, get better loot (or sell it for cash), and weaken the enemy army.
