"Would you like to see my pleasure room?" He asked with a gleam in his eye. I was curious what would make such a man have the look of a mischievous child. "Of course," I replied. "Follow me." He lead me outside to a small shed on the edge of the woods. He unlocked the door and pulled open the doors dramatically. "Come in," he said with a flick of his wrist. I followed him in and saw it all. It was the work shop. "These are my tools. I have rules, and I want you to comply with them. They are for your safety." he smiled and waved around the room expansively landing on THE wall "If you follow them, you may help; if you don't, you will be excluded". I inhaled sharply and bit my lip with amazement, it was a wall of hammers. Hammers of every shape and size, there were synthetic handle and wooden handles; sledge hammers of inhumanly large size on the floor down to the smallest jewelers hammer. He was giddy with excitement, "it's impressive isn't it?" It was, I'd never seen such a collection. - Fifty Types of Hammers

Scribo Stan here! I am fully onboard with GPC adding the Scribo line to inventory. I think the Feel (piston) and Piuma (converter) models are the best. Every Scribo I own has written spectacularly out of the box. And their flex nibs are so beginner friendly. I don’t feel Scribo inks are anything special, other the size (90 ml!) but the pens are some of the best Italian pens.

I was happy to hear Brian give a shout out to Retro 51 fountain pens. They are my current favorite. I had to laugh when practically the very next thing I heard was Drew saying "no one asks for Sheaffers." I recently realized that my Retro 51s remind me of my most treasured pen, the Sheaffer Targa Regency my dad bought for me when we were in Paris together many years ago. (A funny aside: I always used cartridges with my Sheaffer, until a few years ago. And when I tried to put in a converter, I discovered my pen started life as a rollerball!) ❤🖋

Though Sheaffer was my first love, I completely understand why Goulet does not carry them. Sheaffer was the first fountain pen I ever used in the 1960s. (I was eight.) I used their basic cartridge pen in high school and fell in love with the No Nonsense pen in the 70s. But they are no longer what they were, and I wouldn't give a modern Sheaffer pen the time of day. Lo, how the mighty have fallen, and it breaks my heart.

@j.s.matlock1456 I agree. The innovation of Sheaffer was astounding, with some of the most creative nib shapes and filling systems. It would be very hard to reach those heights again. Sheaffer is my vintage pen of choice. LOVE the gold nibs and the striated patterns. My second fountain pen was a modern No Nonsense calligraphy pen. If it had been my first, I think it would have been my last. Compared to the Preppy, it hard started and was inconsistent. So sad.

    • @j.s.matlock1456
      @j.s.matlock1456 7 месяцев назад

@@anneK3801 The No Nonsense pens I used originally weren't calligraphy pens, they were regular fountain pens. I had several of the calligraphy pens later, and they worked fine for me. I know how it is to have a bad experience sour you on the line, though. I've tried a couple of Parker Vector pens and ended up tossing them both in the garbage as useless. However, I inherited a Parker 51 set as well as a Parker 21, and they both worked fine.

Some 3 years ago, when I was just starting falling down this rabbit hole, I ordered 3 Jinhao pens to use in situations when I didn‘t want to use my „good“ pen (Lamy Studio). When they arrived, I thought one of them had gotten damaged in the mail (although I couldn‘t see how that was possible) because the end of the nib was turned up. But since they were so cheap, I just straightened it out myself; if it hadn‘t worked, it wouldn‘t have been a disaster to throw it away. Imagine my chagrin and embarrassment to learn some time later that this was a special type of nib!

I absolutely LOVE when I get ink (or pen) deliveries in the afternoon -- I unbox them, but they sit there, waiting for me to swatch them until after work. Every time I turn around and see them or remember that I have swatching to do, it's like that Christmas feeling every time! 😄 (Coincidentally, I just now received my Goulet package with Monteverde color changers and Dipton shimmer inks and dip pens 😁👏 What a lovely evening it will be!!)

I really like the Private Reserve inks, Spearment and Ebony Purple and Dakota Red and Blue Suede particularly. I have to try their Infinity inks. Drew - that missing the first few words that are said to you because you're concentrating on something sounds really familiar. I may actually be able to wind my brain back and figure out what those words were, but I have to have a few seconds to switch gears.

In general, I listen to you on one of my computer screens while I work from home. However, as I'm not a native English speaker, although I can understand it very well (thank you mom for forcing me to take an English course when I was a teenager), there are moments when I get lost in some words. I would say I understand around 95~97% of the entire show without needing to look. And when I say "look" it's because my browser is programmed to automatically translate the subtitles automatically generated by RUclips into Portuguese. So in the end I have a total understanding of you both on the entire show.

I have an update on the Pirate Party rollerball I ordered. It writes so smooth. I love it. At my workplace (as a cook), we write labels horizontally on a production board. Since fountain pens needc gravity, I never tried one at work. I bought the rollerball to try a not disposable pen. My hand is more comfortable after writing so many more labels than before. My one complaint is that I wish the ink would dry quicker. Is there a refill that dries quicker (even if not sold by Goulet)?

Being a lefty, I love the fast-dry Private Reserve ink. Definitely want to try others. The Infinity sounds neat since I don't write all the time with all my pens so get some hard starts...and being new to fountain pens I don't ink them all for this reason.
As for ideas, I'd love some compare/contrast/what are your favorite pen cases and why.

I could not believe it when Brian named Retro 51 fountain pens as a brand he wished was more popular! WHAAA....???? I have three of them, and they are without exception fantastic pens! I've never had a skip, or a hard start, no matter what ink I've used. They are extremely reliable, good flow, with smooth nibs, and are very comfortable to write with. In fact, the "bee" pen is on my Christmas present to myself list!
I loved meeting Glenn. I've long thought that Goulet had the best photos in the industry on their site and now I know who is responsible for them. Glenn is an artist.
    Great pencast guys, thanks!

I got into fountain pens during my freshman year of high school. My sophomore year all I had was a handful of black Pilot Varsities. But every night I would stay up late lying in bed writing in the cheapest old notebook. I hardly even paid attention to what I wrote because I was entranced by the glisten of the ink by the warm glow of my lamp as it sparkled for just a moment before drying. Irresistible fountain pen moments are absolutely the best, and it's moments like those that keep me so enthusiastic about this hobby.

Scribo user here: My favourite pen is a 3-way tie between a vintage Omas 556/F, a Pilot CH 912 with the FA nib, and a Scribo flex. As you can tell from that list, I love flexy nibs. For those wondering if the Scribo performance justifies the price, I would say if you must have flex, then probably so. But also consider a pen from Santini Italia with a superflex nib. Very similar nib performance, and equally high quality in my opinion. If you don't need a flexible nib, I'm not sure I would splurge on the Scribo.

Drew the closest thing I can come up with regarding a hammer in a fist...is the palm nailer...a pneumatically powered hammer that fits in the palm of your hand and uses an anvil to strike the nail to drive it in, VS a full size nail gun. I have a palm nailer, I don't use it very often at all, but in very tight spaces where you can't swing a regular hammer or a regular nail gun won't fit, the palm nailer will usually fit.

Faber castell!! I absolutely LOVE their art supplies now (colored pencils graphite wooden pencils, pencil sharpeners, erasers) but its funny because it took me a while to try it because it just seemed more traditional and wouldnt excite me. But once i tried their colored pencils i was floored and continuously surprised each time i use it by the QUALITY - like the cores are always perfectly centred and the "leads" never break, even with the most crappiest sharpener. I feel the same way right now with their fountain pens - doesnt fill me with excitement but i wonder now if i am missing out due to my bias.
