ITV1 was renamed back to ITV at 6.00am on Monday 14th January 2013.
ITV Digital trying to show off how they have more football. Sky had three dedicated channels including the premiership matches, ITV had a channel offering the lower realms of football and grossly over estimated how much they would pay for the rights which in 2002 caused ITV Digital to collapse.
One week before ITV(1) debuted The Premiership & The Goal Rush (which also partly aired on ITV2).

ITV becoming ITV1 was just ITV trying to be the BBC. Reverting back to just ITV was the best way, because Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands were not ITV1 during this period, they were STV, UTV and Channel TV.
It can be confused with BBC One, and also STV and UTV is still here
actually in the north of Scotland it was still called Grampian TV until 2006
I don't think ITV being ITV1 was a way for ITV to be like the BBC at all.
I still call it channel 3.

Next Tuesday (15th November), ITV is rebranding back to ITV1 after 9 years during the upcoming rebrand next week. Make sure you record the junctions of it (I'll do mine shortly)

In 2001 when ITV became ITV1 they were Britain's most popular channel. A few short years later they lost that crown to BBC1.
Well actually at that time Britain's favourite channel during 2000 and 2001 was BBC One, not ITV.
I was on holiday in a caravan when it changed. That was before I lived in Cornwall.
Do you have any widecreen itv weather forecasts from this era? I see 1:13 a widescreen norwin ident but unfortunately all the copies of itv weather from 2001 so far are 14:9 ones off analogue itv so to see a full widesceen one is a rarity.

In 2001 ITV became to ITV1 until 2013.
ITV Digital, the biggest pile of crap ever. Trying to outdo Sky, they failed 100%, with the wreckage becoming Freeview.
There are a lot of stuff that considered more crap than ITV Digital.

Except Television X E4 And FilmFour until Television X Was Removed On Saturday 18th May 2002 And FilmFour And E4 Were Removed On Friday 24th May 2002 When Big Brother 3 Began
And ITV1 Is Coming Back On 3rd November 2022

ITV Drama Shows will be Afterlife, Sharpe, Kavanagh QC, Agatha Christie's Poirot, Agatha Christie's Marple, Midsomer Murders, A Touch of Frost, Rosemary & Thyme, Heartbeat, Wycliffe, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Inspector Morse, Lewis, The Catherine Cookson Collection, The Forsyte Saga and Foyle's War.
Hopefully, ITV will keep the channel as 'ITV1' in January 2033.
