Ayla Tesler-Mabe - Vibrato Philosophy | Guitar Lesson

- In this guitar lesson, we’re joined by Ayla Tesler-Mabe from the band Calpurnia to talk about vibrato. Vibrato is an important part of defining your voice on the guitar, and it’s one of the key ways we identify the differences between our favorite players.
When you start out developing your vibrato, it’s a good idea to begin by emulating some of your favorite players. This is especially helpful when you’re working on covering their material. As you do this more, you’ll notice your own brand of vibrato forming.
Vibrato is such an important tool for expression, and there’s no right or wrong answer. Don’t overthink it. Focus on letting it develop naturally and let it become something you don’t have to think too much about.

About Ayla:
Ayla has been making waves in the world of guitar playing as a professional guitarist, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer, since the early age of 14. After only been playing for two years, her first RUclips video (a rendition of John Mayall’s “Hideaway”) put her on the map and kickstarted her music career. She has since been featured in Rolling Stone magazine, become a member of the Ernie Ball and Fender family of artists, and earned various Berklee College of Music scholarships. Musically, Ayla finds great pleasure in exploring the numerous avenues available to her through various styles of music, as seen through her work with Calpurnia and Ludic.

SHE IS AMAZING!! I LOVE HER ❤️
This kid is amazing! Very inspiring, either she's been on the guitar since she was 6, or she's a prodigy, possibly carried over from a past life, it's so refreshing to know there's young people out there playing their own music, bravo!
At namm she said she started when she was 12, so I would say the latter!
She bends like no one else can
Perfect timing

Ayla brings me faith and hope for guitar playing!!! She is a huge reason I was drawn into Calpurnia and Ludic ! I discovered her page and was blown away!!!! Bright future for her, Finn, Malcolm and Jack! All four!
Girl has soul. Love how smoothly she covers Santana. Not easy

Been watching you for years. I'm internet shy so I finally subscribed and wanted to say how cool it is that you sing as well as play awesome guitar. Seems cover artists can do one or the other. You both! Awesome! Keep it up.

The last string bender
YESSS AYLAAA I STANNN!!! YOU PLAYED REALLY WELL IN SANTA ANA😱😱😱💞
this young lady is just the best, no one can touch her in the guitar world, mike in the uk.
Just discovered ayla. She has charisma. She's an excellent teacher. And she's very intelligent. I'm now one of her students.
amazing touch!
There's a guy who recently did a vid where he had to guess whether a player was a man or woman. He could basically tell by their vibrato. He listened to one of Ayla's songs and guessed right. He said it sounded great, but as if it was strained. I told him he must have some darn good ears, cause I certainly couldn't hear it. In any event, he was pretty accurate with his guessing.
I think she has impeccable taste in music and plays it so well and expressively, it makes me giddy. I'd pay to go see her in a heartbeat.
God, I love her so much. She's fantastic!
AWESOME
I LOVE AYLA OMG
This was nice.
my queen I love her
She seems to revel in the classic rock tones she recreates. The love for it comes through.
Very good!
Lovely 🎸 playing.
Ayla you are truly a joy to listen to. What a talent. Ayla I'm begging Darlin please. Ayla you got me on my knees. Ayla won't you ease my worried mind. I wish you well.
I love her guitar
Hey Ally - a little feedback: I tried that playing a few exercises absolutely vanilla and progressively adding colour and it was really effective. I think if you enjoy it you should a little more technique stuff on your channel, your thoughtful approach really shines through in your wonderful playing.
Ayla is awesome ❤🔥
yea! Proud to know you are a Vancouver girl!
That guitar is clean asf!!!
AYLA IS SUCH A QUEEN AND SHES SO SWEET AND SUCH AN AMAZING BEAUTIFUL GIRL IM- ASNJS SHSBSISJSSJSUUAS
Why haven’t I seen this yet?!!
Sweetness!!
Wow!
I'm a big fan. She's special... You can tell there is something very unique going on when she plays...
Helll yeahhhh
You’re incredibly talented - would love to see you take on Roy Buchanan When a Guitar Plays the Blues, or Richard Thompson Hard on Me
Check out her bands Calpurnia and Ludic if you haven’t! I dig them both especially Ludic!!!!
Link your favorite video of hers!
Vibrato is used to emphasize a point (key words) like thy don't do in opera were thy over do it.
she’s so amazing
Ayla, tremendous musician and goddess of the guitar...
Ayla is veryyy talented⭐️
Is it jus me or does she have like a Bob Ross vibe when she talks?
nice^^
AYLA!!!!
Apart from good timing and perfect pitch - Vibrato, gate time (when to stop a note - is as important as when to start a note), velocity on and on - these small little things that make up a good sounding guitarist like her, that many guitarists miss out on their playings and make them sound just bad without knowing why. And a lot of guitarists don't even know that they sound bad because they don't record themselves often and don't recognise what's good.
So true!
It's common for the term "technique" to be applied fast, difficult, or unusual playing. There is no shortage of jaw-dropping talent online these days. (And at shockingly young ages.) Even the ones that don't sound "bad", may be extremely well done, are lacking the mastery of expression Ayla has. This lesson illustrates how thoughtful and practiced she is in crafting her performance. Techniques that may be subtle, but add immeasurably to the overall effect of her music. And her performances don't sound like studies or exercises, she incorporates techniques seamlessly to serve the song.
You are unreal! Wow!
In all honesty I didnt know how talented calpurnia would be, and accredited their success to Finns fame
But holy shit this girl can play
Miss Ayla Tesler-Mabe I love you
What's the solo at the beggining? Could sb help pls? I'm not into blues but I like that feeling and sound very much
Hi Pawel, that was just a jam that we did to kick things off. Kind of a minor bluesy thing. It's important to learn the blues very well. Especially when you start. Give this free Blues Guitar Quick-Start Series a try. www.guitarlessons.com/guitar-lessons/blues-guitar-quick-start-series
♥️♥️
👍.. Ayla
What's the name brand of that white guitar your playing?

Her guitar is setup so well, the action is so low even on the high frets.

Hello Ayla Tesler-Mabe, You played a Jimmy Lick in this video. Do you go into more detail on how to play this and other Jimmy Licks? This video is a bit hard to follow on the Lick. Cheers!
sigh i have a crush on ayla
She's pretty expressive with the Trem Bar, too.
Someone who has got so much talent is going to have people who want more than just one thing and you have to know that.

Ayla do you have your own RUclips channel?
Beauuuutiful, Awesome, Lovely, Talented, Take Care and Keep Safe Always lol mwuuuuuuaaaaah
What guitar is she using??????

How do you have a philosophy after playing just a few years?
*Holy sh-*

If you slow down the speed on her RUclips videos you can see that tasty vibrato better.
Ok...I'm no longer jealous of her skill. She is a genius. It's like hating on superman because he can fly and I cant. Pointless exercise.
genius? ahaahahahahahahaha
"Cover tunes"? How about "renditions", her renditions are so much more than just cover "tunes".
Fiery...... : )
With much respect,
What a cutie! And amazing musician! 😁😍 🎶
Am I the only one that think she looks a bit like a young Julian Baker?
wow, she's so tan
She plays shy?
