Second method is faster in my opinion as you can answer any question in 3 steps, for example: in the second question start with 2AI (two address instruction) as usual, find the number of instructions possible, subtract the given number of 2AI from it and multiply the result with the number of 1AI possible, again subtract the given number of 1AI from it and multiply the result with the number of 0AI possible, to get the number of 0AI it can support. In the first question you can even subtract the given number of 0AI from this number to check whether the encoding is possible or not.
Whichever method seems more efficient, use that. We have taught both the methods. In a complicated & big question, the Bit-Pattern method is more efficient & saves time.
