Had a test ride on one of these @ Fully Charged Outside a couple of months ago - it was amazingly quick off the line, to the point where you have to be careful in 30 mph areas...! Seriously considering one - at around 5k, not that bad when compared with ICE equivalents, the top range Peugeot is only a little less at £4675! Brakes are good - they use a 'combined braking system', where one brake lever operates both front and rear brakes, the other just the front brake - but combined with regen braking as well..

And finally, just because its an EV doesn't mean it's all good and amazing, some will be poorly made and a pain to run, please keep the balance.
Jack, this was mostly very good, but I do feel the need to make a few points...1/ You should have mentioned the words CBT a lot sooner in the video, along with the fact that it stands for Compulsory Basic Training. 2/ You should also have mentioned a) what a CBT costs and b) the fact that it takes one whole day. 3/ You said that the S01 has the performance of a 125, but it depends which S01 you were riding! (The Silence naming system is ridiculously confusing!).But you kept calling it a 'moped' and, as enny fule kno, all mopeds are restricted, BY DEFINITION, to 28mph. On the other hand, the higher power Silence SO1 'Connected' (as opposed to the SO1 'Urban' 28mph moped), can top 60mph and is therefore worthy of the '125 equivalent' epithet. 4/ You could of course have done your CBT on either version. 5/ There are only 2 reasons not to ride a 125-equivalent (11kW) as opposed to a 28mph moped a) You are only 16 and not allowed to ride anything faster or b) You got your full car licence before 2001 which, in those days, equated to a full moped licence anyway which means that you can ride a moped without L-plates and take a passenger. 6/ At some point you should investigate the fact that, due to a major quirk in the legislation, an 11kW '125-equivalent' electric bike or scooter can actually have three times as much peak power as a 15bhp 125cc petrol bike....and make more power on a dyno than a 650. (I have the dyno read-outs to prove it!). Daft Silence naming system, with all models and prices, displayed here: www.silenceuk.com/
Another electric bike well worth a closer look is the super Soco. I think the instructor was riding at one point. It looks fantastic is astonishingly cheap has a removable battery and comes in three flavours up to 62 miles an hour
Once upon a time, it was so easy to understand, a Moped was a vehicle that was vehicle, that was powered by an engine or motor and it had pedals to get it going. That is, you had to pedal from start to get the vehicle going from standstill. Back in the day these Mopeds " Mo Ped" were limited to 50cc in power and 30MPH speed. In the fifties and sixties, very many of these mopeds were popular, eg Raleigh runabout , being one of them, NSU quickly being another. Again, the law may have changed, or not, but with a full car driving licence you could ride one without L plates! Fast forward to today, whether it has an electric motor or petrol motor , if it requires pedals to start it moving for the motor or engine to kick in, its still a "mo- ped" and NOT a scooter.
@@michaelleiper Not that heavy either my current bike weighs in at 197Kg and I push it arround (and I'm 70 ) with no problems. Like I said if you need a reverse gear/mode you are just being lazy.
Learning to ride adds a new perspective to our interactions with the world around us. Rather than sitting in a box watching the world go by, riding makes us active participants. Electric motorcycles increase that engagement by further reducing the distractions inherent in operating a machine.
Yes, please do more electric scooters. I would love to buy the BMW CE O4. It is costly and I expect it will be in limited supply so not sure if I will be able to get one of those so I would like to know of other options.
why can't we got one of those 5 kWh removable batteries for cars? People without driveways could get about 15-20 miles of range each day from their home so most of the time they don't have to pay high charging fees.
Look forward to more bike reviews, even though I am unlikely to get one as in love with my Van Moof. Look forward to Fully Charged in Farnbrough next year. Great work.
5kWh capacity? Impressive capacity for that volume!! My C350e only has a 6.3kWh battery pack and it's the size of a small mattress......and probably costs twice what that entire scooter does. The remove-to-charge is genius...does it also allow in-situ charging?? I'm not a biker and never will be now, but that looks great.
Would be lovely to hear fewer hairdryers racing around London... Though often that was the only way I knew someone was riding in my blind spot. Needless to say, I sold my motorbike... London was a bit too scary. Lovely to see you branching out though Jack!
I agree with Jack's comments about the throttle control. Found this criticism true of the Silence (which I test rode at FullyCharged this year) and the SuperSoco TC Max. I'm keen to try the Brekr Model B and the NIU MQi GT Evo and RQi. Zero, if by chance you read this... how about offering a smaller/cheaper model please?
In Madrid they have a rideshare available on an app the smaller sibling the SO2 and it is a joy to go around such a huge city with it. Myself weighting 100KG plus the wife around 80Kg both taller than 6feet and still feels nippy enough to ride with confidence. Definitely a must try if anybody plans to go to Madrid soon
Very innovative design in regards to the removable battery, solves any hesitancy for charging options. The pre rehearsed anti-Chinese jab, unfortunately was not needed.
Of course, in Spain Silence have set up battery stations in major cities where you just swap your di-charged battery for a fully charged one. this is surely the way to go for electric motorbikes and scooters, but we must have a standardised battery system to achieve this so that say, a Yamaha rider can swap her battery in the same place as a Triumph rider would because they are compatable.
Seems like a really nice scoter. I once had an Chinese electric scooter with preproduction wiring and four 12 V, 34 Ah lead Permobil batteries under the seat, hopelessly unstable dangerous design with at most 30 km range. Still being that crappy, I heard the blackbirds singing though the helmet at full speed. How cool is that? By the way fixing a flat back tire was a project... Could I also interest you in the concept of "speed bikes" where you get just enough exercise while running around in the city at up to 32 mph or 45 kph. That might even be faster than the moped if you blend in as a regular bike (SPEED) and might use some bikers shortcuts occasionally.
Very nice bike. The removable battery for charging is a hell of an idea and looks very well done. With over 500,000 miles under my butt on two wheels on 2 continents and a major island nation, I can say that is a motorcycle that I wouldn't mind owning.
Awesome review. I agree that scooters are especially well suited for electrification lowering the barrier to entry to under $8000. I definitely want to see more become available. :-)
Lovely :) This bike does look very good compared to the competition I would love one. I don't have money atm but if you are looking for a commuter and have the dosh then this looks to be one of the best bang for bucks on the market imo!!!!
I really like silence as a brand, and they are now available in Portugal where I live, with a top box, an so1 would be perfect for a quick nip to the nearest shops (10 km away) and much better range than for example the piaggio I could charge it in my garage. when are you going to review the silence micro car so4
Can't wait to see Jack on the latest Zero motorbike. Probably need a track to experience the top speed but fully charged live in UK will have some pavement.
Could you investigate the Sondors Metacycle, if it does what it claims, it could be a great commuter for folk that would prefer a bike to a scooter, it looks great and a removable battery too, my too good to be true alarm is twitching though!
I've just ran that number plate through my vehicle app and it says, you still HAVE to pay £21 per year to tax the thing, even though you don't need to pay for electric cars. Why?
If you buy the Seat Mo branded version, as I did today...:-) the Arnold Clark dealerships (Seat) have an advert in Auto Trader and the bike is priced at £5200, and they are offering a free helmet (either full face or flip up). Look carefully because one of the ads states free helmet & the other doesn't. The £500 saving off the bike gave me enough for winter gloves (slightly thicker than the summer variant, a lock and a supper safety device that fastens to the back of your lid, connects via blue tooth to the bike and illuminates when you break. It will rapidly flash red under hard breaking, and should you have a fall it will call a friend or paramedic - automatically (I kid you not). I'm so looking forward to taking it out next week.... oh; the sizes for the accessaries (gloves, lid are a tad on the small size so extra large is the most comfortable.
I also have a SEAT MO branded silence. Apart from a niggle with the steering bearing which is about to be fixed, it is superb and great fun to ride. Anyone know anywhere on the web where people chat about these?
One question remains: how well does the battery deal with colder weather? Batteries and colder weather lead to dead electric mopeds when the battery cools down too much.
I guess that with the removable battery there is scope to upgrade in the future for better battery technology. This is something I think someone should consider before purchasing or ask silence if that's their plan.

@@michaelleiper That happens here, in the UK, too - so many foreign nationals on our roads, - forget they drive on the other side (the left) over here!
Wonderful looking thing, but 6250 euros (before subsidies) in Europe is a bit of a tough sell
Nice to see two wheel action on FC. It'd be good to see more variety, but keep on with the excellent stuff you folks do
100% need more bike content, this was great
Had a test ride on one of these @ Fully Charged Outside a couple of months ago - it was amazingly quick off the line, to the point where you have to be careful in 30 mph areas...! Seriously considering one - at around 5k, not that bad when compared with ICE equivalents, the top range Peugeot is only a little less at £4675! Brakes are good - they use a 'combined braking system', where one brake lever operates both front and rear brakes, the other just the front brake - but combined with regen braking as well..
they are advertising it for just under 5000 pounds on the road price on their website...not bad at all
Welcome to the Motorbiking world Jack. Would be good to have more 2wEV reviews!
Amazing piece of kit, well done for the pass result too 👍
Yes please, more electric motorbikes, mopeds and vehicles that only carry one or two people but aren't just city things! Cheers!
yes the removable battery is genius....i live in an apartment where there is no power outlet in my parking spot...thats what i need
The removable battery is brilliantly done. But is the front tyre on backwards?
Well done on the pass. More of the two wheeled EV options please. A look at true ownership would be good too, parts availability, actual mileage per charge etc... And finally, just because its an EV doesn't mean it's all good and amazing, some will be poorly made and a pain to run, please keep the balance.
Great video, I'm sold on this because like da Vinci said 'Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication'.
Excellent stuff. Battery pop out is, in particular, terrific, especially for cities. Well done.
Love the e bike review. Definitely keep them coming. What a great battery idea and all that space!! Words don't do it justice.
Antonio: Hi everybody!
Everybody: Hi Dr. Nick!
Yes please to more scooter/motorbike videos! Time for your direct access Jack?! :-)
I've liked this scooter since I saw it, and it's definitely up there on my 'to get' list!
really enjoyed this. more please.
Needs bigger, brighter indicators. It’s one of the things I notice when being behind scooters. Otherwise 👍
Well done Jack, and apparently the Silence has a reverse gear (or mode).
Reverse gear on a light weight scooter bloddy hell only for the lazy.
@@johnmccallum8512 111kg including that battery - not that lightweight.
Electric motorcycles increase that engagement by further reducing the distractions inherent in operating a machine.
great to see more motorbike videos
Yes, please do more electric scooters. I would love to buy the BMW CE O4. It is costly and I expect it will be in limited supply so not sure if I will be able to get one of those so I would like to know of other options.
why can't we got one of those 5 kWh removable batteries for cars? People without driveways could get about 15-20 miles of range each day from their home so most of the time they don't have to pay high charging fees.
Silence are already building a two seater car with 2 of those batteries! Watch this space!
I think this might be the most important comment on this episode. That's an excellent idea.
I'm not a biker and never will be now, but that looks great.
the Silence has 5.6kWH!
Yes, it does! There is a standard 'kettle lead' AC inlet socket under the seat to do just that!
I have been enjoyed, so thank you for delivering.
Yes I would like to see more e-bikes, motorbikes, and scooters.
Well done Jack! This video took me back to my days doing surveillance. The camera angle and jerky footage so reminiscent of those days 😬😬
New series of Little and Large at last!! xD
More bikes is always good. Stopped riding bike for the third time in my life a few years ago, but they really do have a place in busy cities
Now if they have one for gravel roads, and stairs ??
Ones with a full-size windscreen available stock or aftermarket... . Anything available in the U.S. ?
yeah, do more motorbikes, and well done on the CBT
Where are the pedals on the "moped"? Is it not a motorcycle or motor scooter?
Very good idea with the battery.
Awesome review. I agree that scooters are especially well suited for electrification lowering the barrier to entry to under $8000. I definitely want to see more become available. :-)
I was wondering if you passed BTW. Well done!
Can this scooter carry a pillion passenger?
Does this do anything better than Nui? I'd say they are the leaders at the moment and have had removable batteries for some time.
Love to see more reviews on EV bikes that are available on the roads these days.
how fast, how many recharge cycles?
Lovely :) This bike does look very good compared to the competition I would love one. I don't have money atm but if you are looking for a commuter and have the dosh then this looks to be one of the best bang for bucks on the market imo!!!!
Do they sell this in Norway? I ordered the NIU GTS EVO, but rust is a big problem on this brand :(
What's the true range at 60mph? and how tall are you? i really want this bike but I suspect the range will still be an issue.
Price pls?
Is this scooter suitable for riders over 6ft tall?
i was under the impression the CBT isn't a test so no passing or failing. training is the T.
Not in the Real World - you can still be refused your CBT certificate, which is a "fail" no matter what you might choose to call it.
If you pass the CBT on a leccy bike, are you allowed to ride a real (non leccy ) bike?
I really like silence as a brand, and they are now available in Portugal where I live, with a top box, an so1 would be perfect for a quick nip to the nearest shops (10 km away) and much better range than for example the piaggio I could charge it in my garage. when are you going to review the silence micro car so4
Why wasn't this on the main channel?
Can't wait to see Jack on the latest Zero motorbike. Probably need a track to experience the top speed but fully charged live in UK will have some pavement.
Could you investigate the Sondors Metacycle, if it does what it claims, it could be a great commuter for folk that would prefer a bike to a scooter, it looks great and a removable battery too, my too good to be true alarm is twitching though!
Where can you buy this in the USA?
I've just ran that number plate through my vehicle app and it says, you still HAVE to pay £21 per year to tax the thing, even though you don't need to pay for electric cars. Why?
I enjoyed this episode muchly. Gap yaaa X)
Electric NBA. How did you fit in the Spring mate?
It's also sold as Seat Mo.
Good scooter an well done 👍
""Predictive range indicator", better known as the GOM. (Guess-o-Meter) :-)
Great review. Brilliant battery.
So where was the front 'L' plate?
Any Software hacks for this scooter ?
Sunra miku super has just came out in the UK, more an electric Honda Grom size bike which you may look daft on being lanky but little bikes are fun.
One question remains: how well does the battery deal with colder weather?
Batteries and colder weather lead to dead electric mopeds when the battery cools down too much.
I know the battery pack has a 55w heater for optimum charging temps, not sure if it is used when the scooter is in use?
What is the make of that green car in the background at 8:30 ? I like the style!
By the way, Ur videos are always entertaining
I guess that with the removable battery there is scope to upgrade in the future for better battery technology. This is something I think someone should consider before purchasing or ask silence if that's their plan.
