2017, that's ages ago
Snow White and the 7 Clever Boys?
Thought I'd mention that the Mona character you were playing as in Fighting Angels is a robot. Please don't ask why I know that.
For those who don't know, the reason why there are so many PS2 shovelwares were made by D3 publisher game is because all of those games were part of "simple" series.
"Simple" series are series of video games that branded itself as "low budget", some were developed by Tamsoft, and some were bought from other shady development studios. Basically a bunch of shovelwares that didn't hide itself as being a shovelware.
In PS1~PS2 era of Japan, it gained a weird following as a "B movie" of video games. A lot of hits and misses but low-risk for consumers as they were cheaply sold because of its quality. You see a lot of trash in this video but some of them were pretty good for its budget and price, like "Earth Defense Force", which gained a massive following and lead to create sequels with a proper budget (and not part of the "simple" series anymore). If you are interested, you should look it up as there are more than 200 titles published under the simple series brand.
interesting stuff
Jeez, I had to do a double take there! *200* titles? I'm not against that, far from, but jeez!
What's interesting is that a small handful of those developers, Tamsoft included, managed to find enough success through these low budget games that they're still around today, and they've each become well known for making fairly good games that fill certain niches. Their games also still technically count as budget titles, but they've gotten so good at it that most of the time you can hardly tell.
@@DolusVulpes Tamsoft is an interesting story, because they weren't some obscure developer. They were the creators and Devs of Toshinden. So they've always been a dev that understands how to make fast-paced action games. But once that series got outpaced by games that followed in its footsteps (namely Soul Blade/Soul Edge/Soul Calibur) they lost their main revenue source and got by making shit for D3. And while their output in other genres varies, most of the action games they made in the simple series show their talent.
This culminated in the Zombie Hunters/Oneechanbara games, which while obviously tongue in cheek and VERY rough by todays standards (albeit it was only $20 so not too much room to complain) was also astoundingly one of the first character action games outside of DMC and Rising Zan, and was one of the earliest to integrate rhythm/timing into the combo/special move equation. And all of those did well enough to not only get a sequel and a revision, but eventually like EDF became an actual AAA franchise. And this is also where Tamsoft's now famous affinity for... interesting costume choices and character designs comes into prominence. lol.
And this then led to them getting back on the map, shacking up with Marvelous, and to the explosive success of Senran Kagura and their colabs with Compile Heart, while still working with D3 on projects related to. And now we've gone full circle to a AAA remake of Oneechanbara 1 & 2 in 2019. So yeah, the simple series not only saved an innovator in the fighting and action game genres from going belly up, but directly led to them being more successful than ever.
And while it's sick that Sandlot managed to become a hugely successful studio with EDF from the simple series (despite only having 25 employees) I always find Tamsoft's story to be the coolest outcome of them, because again they were MONUMENTAL to the industry in the early days of 3D fighting games but fell off when bigger players stepped into the arena. Were it not for the consistent cash flow and creative freedom that the simple series uniquely provided at the time, they probably would've died.
Nowadays Sandlot, Tamsoft, HuneX, and others seem to have this sort of nostalgic appreciation for the Simple Series being their starting point/rebirth. Hence cameos by Riho and other homages even in their newer games (in fact ESPECIALLY in their newer games).

tbh I see that Demolition Girl is on Steam, I wonder if it's on the Nintendo e-Shop? Like even ten years ago I would've said "no way", but in the Switch era, I'm a lot less sure
Nintendo of America in the late '80s: you absolutely *cannot* release a game with the literal *Devil* in it in our good Christian nation
Nintendo of America in the late '10s: yeah sure, there can be Gal Gun games on the Switch, why not? And there can 100% be some DLC that gives the Splatoon 2 hosts some low-cut light fetish wear, anime tiddies never hurt no one
The Adventures of Bonehead Tiger in the Gorge of Athleticism
26:16 - Ok, bye!
Toward the end of the Waterworld-ish game, someone in chat was asking if Demolition Girl was on his list if most of these games were Simple 2000 games... then Vinny put on Demolition Girl almost right after. That chat member asking for measuring giants was prophetic.
That was me (Cyber_Akuma in the chat), I figured it would be the most messed up out of D3's lineup so I wanted him to play it. I was..... almost right, going to have to say the baby one was even worse. I remember X-Play of all places reviewing it, apparently, the UK versions are budget versions OF their budget titles since they would remove voice-acting or FMV scenes as they would be in all-Japanese, and were too cheap to redo/translate them in English.
I am surprised Vinny had never heard of D3 considering all the trash he has played (I mentioned that at the beginning of the stream too), especially since they didn't just make budget games for the PS2, but also PS1, Wii, and likely other systems too.
@@Cyber_Akuma and Nintendo DS as well too, as a matter of fact that army game (the very first game he'd played) actually had a port on the DS though i believe it's Japan only.
Chat is always is the gift that keeps on giving

Dang, when I heard him say your name, I was wondering if it was the same person.
@@captainrumia2607 yep its me
So glad you had Demolition Girl and that baby game in that list, Vinny's reaction was priceless. Wasn't one of D3's later PS2 titles an attempt to have a Mascot-fighter like like Smash Bros, but with all of their "popular" characters in it? I recall Demolition Girl, the EDF Marine, a kid with a pumpkin-head, and some kind of alien fish-person were all in it.
ruclips.net/video/OUoqLKnSSWE/видео.html
@@Cyber_Akuma I know exactly which one your talking about, and I had every intention on adding that game to the pack... But unfortunately I can't find an iso of "The All*Star" anywhere on the internet.
Hmm, weird, pretty sure I had an easy time finding that one years ago. Apparently it was released in the UK too, though I am assuming like usual they ripped the audio and video out of the UK version.

Calvin_Coolage true
me seeing half of these games that actually look kind of fun: write that down, WRITE THAT DOWN!
This is the series that evolved to become Earth Defense Force. Also of note, D3 the publisher who made these, is a Bandai Namco subsidiary, so this garbage is all funded by Bandai Namco
I actually picked up EDF 4.1 after watching this because it piqued my curiosity for the series, holy shit it's fun
Holy shit, so that's why the sound effects seemed familiar
@@cacomeat7385 Haven't played any but they definitely seem unique.
Honestly, why doesn't this surprise me in the slightest?
EDF is just shooty arcade fun, it might get a lil repetitive, but when you unlock the crazier weapons, it gets so good, lol.
My fave has to be the air raider + the giant mech Barga.
Vinny horrified at the "measure giant girls" game cracked me up, I had it as a background but I had to look at it and it's fucking hilarious. I hope we can convince Vinny to play that stuff again like we did with Galgun 2
D3 publisher has some of the best weird shit ever made for the best value, they are a treasure and I love them for their creativity on a budget.

39:00 Vinny shows his decency
I'm honestly far less surprised at Demolition Girl's existence than I am at the fact that it was actually localized outside of Japan
when vinny said “data design..... dinteractive- DINT- DINT-“, i felt that
Aside from cheap shovelware, D3 Publisher is mostly known these days for making raunchy anime games. Omega Labyrinth Life and Bullet Girls Phantasia being notable examples. Both are actually pretty decent, if a bit unpolished.
And EDF of course.
D3 also published the Matt Hazard games(Eat Lead and Blood, Bath, & Beyond) which were pretty good games.
@@temshop5757 Its predecessor Omega Labyrinth Z was banned in the UK, and then Sony decided to ban it worldwide even though PEGI and the ESRB gave it a pass. Life is the sequel, and it was released without issue as far as I know (though the PS4 version is heavily censored compared to the Switch version).
Didn't they also published that one Regular Show game on 3DS? So bizarre
They also did publish a Ben 10 game I still own. A pretty decent game but suffers from a short playtime and zero replayabilty. Oh well
I love how all of these games don't give you any instruction they're just like YOU HEAV GAYME YOU PLAYE NOW
Can't believe I witnessed the end of Vinesauce live
Dude i was dying during this part of the stream
Demolition girl, Demoman's cousin that he tries not to associate with too much
Watching Fighting Angels shows me how people who never play DOA sees DOA. At Lee's DOA is good and has been leading the way in jiggle physics for like 25 years.
As unlikely as it would be, I'd love to see Vinny do a palythrough of Klonoa 2. It's not just one of the most overlooked gems on the PS2, but of any system ever.
I was sad because I have missed the previous segment but quickly realized this is even better.
D3 and Tamsoft must have really needed cash back in the 2000’s so they were probably given a budget that was the equivalent of 1 game and made like 40 games
There were so many budget D3-published games labeled under Simple 2000 (as in 2000 Yen) in Japan.
D3 Publisher probably hit big(For their standards, of course) when they published the Ben 10 games since it was a very popular series at the time

Can't believe the schoolgirl in Deadly Strike prevented that baby from being in an isekai.
Baby was reverse isekai.
Ho-lee-chit!! I was hoping Vinny would play EDF in some capacity! Wow, I guess GDF is close enough, can't wait to watch it. Bless you Binyep
well, GDF is the first game in the franchise...
@@mslabo102s2 yes! It's just I think he would enjoy EDF a little more
Well, I was saving the enjoyment for last night, and to my disappointment he only played for like 30 seconds. Well, I guess that's better than nothing.

1:03:05 Vinny starts talking about helping Australia's recovery process if anyone's interested
They never made a Godzilla game like Demolition Girl
Like, where you literally fly a chopper and try to fight Godzilla
What a missed opportunity
That giant girl was also in Love Upper, a boxing game by the same company.
That girl is basically the D3 company mascot, she's in a lot of the simple 2000 series for the ps2
I like how the earth defense force menu sounds have not changed in around 15 years.
The way the fights were playing out in Fighting Angels, all the attacks were in sync with the soundtrack and it sounded kinda rad.
Vinny needs to never say "come on, baby" ever again.
3:28 Rusted Metal Jacket would be my pick for a name.
If Vinny does another Budget collection, I hope he includes Robot Alchemic Drive on it.
It's a weird example of... 2nd Person Gaming? Like you control someone controlling a giant robot from the outside via remote control, with the camera view being based on where the player is, not the robot. And it's got the most delightful attempt at voice acting.
That game was pretty awesome, lol. Apart the atracious voice acting (which is so bad its good), the game's hella fun, controlling your own giant robot with a remote control, and you can even ride on it!
There's actually quite some more games like it, one on the ps1 and some more on the ps2, the most recent one I've played is based on the anime tetsujin 28/gigantor, the very first giant robot ever.
4:05 so he checks you out then gives you a little nose nuzzle and nicknames you "Bonehead Tiger", probably as an excuse to call you Tiger because he's clearly smitten.
53:20 The song title says "3-2-1-5", but it kinda does make sense in Japanese. See more from link below:

Real men defeat their enemies by screaming at the sky until it gives you a rocket launcher.

Budget PS2 games are like finding yourself in the weird zone of RUclips at 3AM.
Ahh god bless D3 Publisher! I unironically love the Oneechanbara series and of course many people love EDF for fairly obvious reasons.
Fun D3 Fact: They're actually owned by Bamco now.
Hard to believe D3 then went on to give us the absolute masterclass in b-movie catharsis that was the EDF series

why are the characters in fighting angels using kirby sound effects

At least D3-published games are trying to be creative
The PS2 sounds are bringing a lot of fucking nostalgia. I remember when i was a little bab, hadn't started school. When i wasnt playing N64, i was playing the PS2 slim we had. NFS Hot Pursuit 2, Crash Badicoot 3, Spyro(forget which one), and GTA San Andreas (before my parents heard me and my brother mimicking the ingame characters and my dad snapped the disc in half.)
Why did your parents had gta san andreas anyways?

I played the adventures of Darwin a lot as a kid, it was really fun, Vinny just doesnt have the time to grind in it, but I swear it was a really fun game.
2020 is the year of sexo, lewd, and robertsons apparently. Most likely cause by that damn slime girl.
Curse of the Champ
The Qs and Ps are lifted because either the font sucks, or because they didn't implement proper font alignment, because it's a Japanese game. Japanese script is mono space and everything is at the same height.
You can also sometimes see broken text wrapping when chinese games are ported to english.
1:11:28 Vinny goes into full panic mode xD
D3...the Earth Defense Force people. Oh man, must have been some dark times for them...
01:09:32 Come On Baby...? OH HOLY BABY JESUS ON A POGO STICK. i know this game!
Funnily enough, this game was originally made from South Korea, not from Japan. Perhaps they ported the game to PS2 for special reason or something. It was firstly introduced as an arcade game, but later it was ported to CD Rom. The game was quite the bestseller in SK. Hence i bought the CD and used to play the shit out of it when i was a kid.
Right now, those wackiness and weirdness are just bizarre to look at. And i thought Mega Babies was the worst.
Epilogue:
All of these games dies of an overdose, except for Global Defense Force. GDF went to college, earned a degree, and became the Earth Defense Force series. It's still a budget title, but a thoroughly engaging one with fun arcade gameplay. Every year, EDF visits the graves of his deceased siblings, in Trash Graveyard.
This stream is yet again confirmation Vinny watches Joel's streams semi-regulary, except this time he's high af
adventures of darwin is the nier of monkey games
They say he started with the worst. They say Covert Command was the ultimate trash. But then, there was Deadly Strike...
I did say covert command was the worst, but halfway through him playing The adventures of Darwin I remembered Deadly Strike was in the pack... and I took everything I said back.
"Weenie is advertised in the background"
And the foreground
Imagine these being the only games you had on the ps2. It’s like having a whole different console
I'm amazed that there's a Pikmin clone on PS2.
I didn't see this live.
Imagine my confusion at that one Vinebooru image of Frog's enthusiasm of taking Lavos' "measurements".
1:11:11 I thought the sign said "WEEN!" like the band had something to do with the game
37:17 Vinny stop playing with my fetishes like this
Deadly strike ripping off all the final fantasies lol
EDF! EDF!
I hope this series can expand into slightly more lengthy looks at more esoteric or Japanese PS2 titles such as The Sword of Etheria, 10000 Bullets, Another Century's Episode, Gungrave, and more.
At the very least, I'd like to see the next pack feature The OneeChanpon. We can get the eponymous stars of Oneechanbara and cameos from Riho and the Dragon Sisters.
I do have plans of making an obscene Japanese ps2 game pack for Vinny that included most of the games you listed, Gungrave especially
Id probably like Deep Water. Theres not many games like that and it basically plays into what I've always wanted.
YESSSSS, someone linked him to Uh Oh Stinky Lofi. Based chatyot
That's not even lofi lul
I swear I've seen that baby game before as an actual arcade machine at an actual arcade place lmao
the intro music for Hard Knock High sounded straight out of F-Zero
Coming back to this after seeing so many people complain about fighting game singleplayer modes and tutorials, hard knock high is a really good start of an idea for a system to train a character and teach new players fighting game basics.
Oh no, I did not come here expecting babby johnsons.
ACQUIRE THE HIP, VINNY
THIS IS AN ORDER
Bonehead Tiger? Bonehead Tiger?!?!? BONEHEEAD TIIIIIIII
I had no idea some of the Simple series came out in Europe. Learn something new every day!
It's funny, I sometimes like these quirky titles because they can be more creative because they're not beholden to higher budgets. I'm not suggesting the games are any good, but rather they have little touches where I'm like "ha, that's cool"
Try Street Boyz on the PS2. It's like a low budget jank version of Yakuza.
It's not that great but it's so fucking weird it's worth playing.
That's actually a one of the games in the pack, he'll probably play it in part 2
I had Demolition Girl for PS2 when i was a kid, no idea what happened to my copy but i can't say i miss it.

Something about Deep Water was very appealing and relaxing to me, but maybe it's because it reminds me of WindWaker
