As a health care professional in a psychiatric hospital that daily has to restrain patients with punching, kicking or chokes this would be a great option. It takes sometimes 6-7 male and female staff members to get the patient under control. And most of the time at least 2 staff members get injured daily. They teach a small course in CPI. It’s not usually effective. We need an updated system to save on injury from patients and staff. The cost of worker’s compensation claims are ridiculous. I’m very interested in this type training.
Germany here. This is by far the best system for retraining somebody ive ever seen. Especially in lawenforcement, any agency that is not adooting this asap, is not really concerned about officer safety or sagety at all. I am highly impressed by what ive seen so far of safe wrap!
In the video they include a clip and commentary on the audience trying it. As far as I could tell, it worked for them too; and they're less trained with the techniques than the police officers would be.
Long time (mostly sport) BJJ black belt here and I love these guys. Haters will hate but Rener is a national treasure. Wish yall were there when I dropped in for class a few years ago. Next time.
I have been doing bjj for almost 30 years now and I also have a special needs teenage son who has in the past gotten violent. I had to restrain him many times with a gift wrap. The SafeWrap System looks extremely impressive. The gift wrap alone is a powerful restraining technique. Even though I have not done their system, with the experience I have, I would highly recommend this for all law enforcement and public workers.
Do you have a child, let alone a special needs child? I love my son more than life itself. I would never harm my son but there is a reality that some parents and teachers have to face when dealing with a large violent teenager and learning a proper way to restrain someone safely for the safety of everyone is critical.
I love that you guys are doing this. The main issue is lack of good, repeatable training for officers. The often times go through academy, then rarely trying much more than that. Simple training such as this is what’s needed.
It is allowed as an IP, basically. But WHY would you? To me, that's the interesting question. I say that as a huge fan of the Gracies. But requiring a license and paying fees to use this just seems... odd.
This is good but I’d like to see the same thing but with two random police officers doing the holding instead of two of the best BJJ black belts in the world lol. Their knowledge of how to move their bodies and put pressure definitely helps them in this situation.
The video clearly shows two small women from the street applying the technique. There is another video they released last week showing multiple people learning and using this that aren't Gracies.
@@clanggedin It shows them applying it for a couple of seconds. It doesn't show, and conveniently doesn't mention, whether they were able to successfully restrain their target.
@@clanggedin yes but I’m talking about them pressure testing it like in this video. Grab two random cops. Teach them the system and then let ppl try and escape while promising them money.
And that's how you get injuries and deaths from positional asphyxia. The point here is that it's an effective, safe, and humane way to subdue someone without using excessive force. I'd be interested in learning it.
Wouldnt the challenge be more of getting into that position, rather then starting from the best possible position? Starting fully locked in of course they wont get out, thats liked saying "get out of this rear naked choke, while i have it fully locked in before starting"
To be fair, with two people I’m sure getting the gift wrap wouldn’t be too difficult, especially for someone trained. Idk about the legs though. It seems about as difficult as a typical 2 on 1 entanglement. Maybe its use would be for after someone has been taken down and already controlled but idk
@@jacobhoover4393 That is what i see as probably the biggest hurdle. Getting the legs in that position. While everybody is moving , the person maybe is a bigger individual / on certain drugs. In less then ideal surroundings/curcumstances.
What I thought was also great was the de-escalation and overall care for the person being detained. You could sense that the person under control wasn't feeling scared or hurt during the restraining. Two thumbs WAY up!!! 👍👍
Awesome! I agree with the comments I see that it would be awesome to see a follow up vid where you have some police officers that you give a 1-hour intensive training on this position and have them try this challenge. That would be very insightful for how easy it is for officers to apply this effectively. You guys did great, but with your skills you could probably control any one of these people without breaking a sweat one-on-one as well.
You should train the police and medical staff! I love your work! It's safe and effective - it literally saves lives! ❤ Keep up the amazing groundbreaking work! Thanks!
This is only HALF the battle. I am so happy to see the Gracies use their skill and knowledge to come up with something that will absolutely save lives. The other half of the battle is requiring mandatory fitness tests for officers, also training time must be extended far beyond it's current acceptable limits when becoming a cop.
Renner >> I remember when you were 12 years old and you were a blue Belt > you have so advanced your skills , professionalism and knowledge > from in those early years at the Gracie Academy .. so proud of you .. Robert Lee
Much respect for these two for being so innovative. I have no doubt that if police agencies adopt this approach it will save lives and avoid PTSD from having to possibly shoot someone for not being able to successfully subdue a suspect.
Every single Police Department in the United States should adopt this. It would prevent hundreds of millions of dollars in litigation yearly. It creates equal amounts of safety for the people implementing it as well as the individuals It is being used on. Really impressed by this, it would probably prevent officers striking with a closed fist 99% of the time.
Gentlemen, first I want to say I LOVE what you are doing for our law enforcement, and I think you are making our country as a whole safer and better to live in, one department at a time, so THANK YOU! I was wondering as I watched though, if maybe you could show copers using the technique. Maybe the average (not saying this to be rude or throw shade but to be real) slightly overweight male and female officer duo or two female officers. With their gear on. I say this because it has to work for them for it to work, and the gear (as you know) significantly impacts your ability to move, curve your body, reach for arms, etc. That all said, I've seen enough of your work to believe on faith at this point that all that has been worked out, but I'd still like to see it in the demonstration that's selling the effectiveness of it. Again, all said with the upmost respect and a guinine desire to contribute to the betterment of policing and the safety of my community.
Amazing video !! Excellent initiative ! I remember that old video of a passerby helping a huge police officer restrain a man on the ground. Calming explaining to him what to do, how to navigate the operation and your narration in the back ground. I feel like that video sparked this initiative. Or atleast served as fuel for this amazing invention ❤
Long-sleeved uniform shirts are better for real world sits. Saves tats from being scared and avoids direct contact. This is more difficult to perform on someone in long-sleeves, jacket, winter gloves, etc.... Added challenges include person on drugs, biters, bystander accomplices, 3rd strikers, etc....

I wonder if some of these people don't even know who is actually holding them. I bet if they did they would know they are not getting out of it.
It would be an honour and so much fun to try to get out of it, fully aware that I can't get out of it because of knowing who is holding me.
what if the person was high on drugs?
I'm asking for $100 since I know I'm not getting out lol

for them to patent 2 grappling moves if done on a single person simultaneously? :D
It’s a little harder when it’s the Gracies holding you down and not two cops that just learned it.
Also, the cops won't be starting in that position.
