Thank you! the one step of changing it from the default airprint pos driver was the missing part of the puzzle.. in short, install the mac drivers, delete the printer, reinstall it, change it from airprint to the manufacturer driver. -if you know what you are doing, you could start just before 2 minutes..
I have downloaded and re-downloaded the correct driver and it's still not working on mac but my printer did not come with a cable so I'm not sure what to do
Hi Alex, sadly all printers these days do not come with a USB cable, you are expected to buy one yourself. We would always recommend initial setup with a Mac is done using a USB cable to ensure the driver is installed correctly

You can remove it and use WiFi if your print has it. But we always recommend using usb
