I was unaware that a Planet of the Apes T.V. series even existed until recently. I was also unaware of the animated series. I appreciate this retrospective. Thank you!
A very Nice Retrospective of the series! I never noticed a dip in the quality of the scripts during it's run. This is one of my favorite TV series of all time and I feel if the network would have been patient this series called have been another "Star Trek". Yes I believe it had that much potential. I heard that if it wasnt cancelled they were going to have a two part Human Mutant City storyline which would have been the Second Season Premiere. Oh Well!! The reason I feel it was cancelled is because of its time slot..Fridays at 8pm. It is legendary how many Science fiction tv series died early in this time and night slot...but the Networks kept doing it. It was almost as if they were purposing trying to bury these shows because of their high costs.
I absolutely love the Planet Of The Apes 1974 TV program...Only 14 glorious episodes......But imo it's second only to the original classic 1968 film in the series. And this is coming from someone who LOVES Beneath The Planet Of The Apes, and Escape From The Planet Of The Apes......But the TV show has this extraordinary frenetic, relentless, claustrophobic, dangerous feel to it.....It's kind of like Starsky and Hutch meet The Fugitive of course....But it has this Frodo relentlessly chased by the Mordor Riders thing going on too.....Very inspired, great performances across the board, and good scripts. Watched the series again in the past year, and I think some of the later episodes; The Surgeon, The Interrogation, etc. are actually some of the best. Roddy is always great. And Mark Lenard as Urko is awesome as well.
One big reason the series never went beyond one season was because CBS tried to use it to unseat NBC's Sanford and Son/Chico and the Man as the winner of Friday night ratings. Unfortunately, POTA was no match for these well-entrenched sitcoms. However, it did air for two seasons in the UK where it was much more successful.
Brother hi from orizaba Veracruz México Look I want to know if there will a second picture abouth the the astronauta back in the other future existe a apes
I used to watch this series. It was one of my favorites! I was so disappointed when it was canceled. I don't remember much about it now. It's been too long. Going to have to watch it again soon. I just recently watched the first movie that came out in 1968. There were parts that I had forgotten. That one has always been my favorite of the franchise, although the Andy Serkis movies were awesome! I also just watched Beneath the Planet of the Apes again today. Hadn't seen that one for years and had forgotten most of it. Definitely not one of the better ones. The remake was Mark Wahlberg was not that good, IMHO.
I've got to agree with you on all points here. I had rewatched the entire series and movie franchise before making this video and had a good time all round. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
I remember that the series exists, and that I watched it. I do not remember the series, though. As a kid I am sure I liked it. I saw the first of the new remake and it was so bad I never saw the other 2 (I thought there was only one other). The Marky Mark movie was not so great either. I do still enjoy the original series of movies. They are old, but were new when I saw them ha ha 😎
I suggest giving the new reboot movies a watch. The first one is definitely the worst of the 3 but I still like it, the 2nd and 3rd one are really good in my opinion
Beautiful video Bro, i too watched the movies as a kid in India in the 90's ❤️👍. Does this series show more of the ruins of the Atomic blasted New York City & my favourite the Mutant Humans, who speak through mind/project illusions/mind control etc?
We don't get the NY ruins unfortunately, the closest we get is the trashed town and the subway which I believe I showed in the video, but no mutated human either as the humans who time traveled here arrived earlier in the timeline so humans still have the ability to speak
@@KBsRetrospective Sad 😞. But thanks for info Bro 🙏. Lastly, plz help on the below doubts. Which has been haunting me from the 90's. Its on the Cinematic Franchise. 1. How did the humans lose the power to speak? As in the last movie, there are people who escaped from the Atomic Holocaust and were living in Ape city with Caesar. They spoke well & fought for th apes against the Mutants, who came for the rescue. 2. Caesar & his bloodline would have had the ability to speak. But how did the others Apes start to speak? On the last movie, all apes we're learning English. 3. The humans, who remained in the city with the Radiation evolved into the Mutant Humans with special skills. Later they would have known the situation of the normal humans suffering like animals under the hands of the apes. Why dint they try to save them & bring them to the underworld. Easily they could have mind trained them? 4. The Mutants from the city ruins tried to kill off the apes. But failed. When they caught Taylor, after reading his mind. They could have searched and got the spacecraft. Repaired it, gone back in time with Taylor and warned the world leaders to stop the Atomic Holocaust. Just by removing their masks and showing their dismembered faces would have been enough. Instead, they are singing to the Alpha Omega Bomb like the Mad Christians in Sunday Service without brains like today. Also, as they read Taylor & Steve's Brain. Then, why do they not trust them? Instead tried to kill them? 5. Ape city dint even have Electricity. Apes opened their mouth on seeing paper rocket as sample. How can they repair and navigate Taylor's spacecraft? Sorry for troubling ❤️🙏
PotA is by far my favorite scifi franchise, even the Tim Burton version. That reboot was in production hell for years before he even came on board, and it's too bad he gets a lot of blame for it. I think the cast is where it falls apart really; I do like Mark Wahlberg, but he seems kind of generic here.
Back in the late SIXTIES and EARLY SEVENTIES the Planet of the Apes movies had been a major hype and ththat W§ORLDWIDE ! There is hardly anyone on THIS EARTH :) who does not know at laest the first and the las movies. But also the TV show there was even a movie halfway based on it with a Feudal Society run by Apes with the Humans ass unfree servents and farmers. qw seen in the series. Shows like zthose alf always the bad luck to run on an amout of limited sttions at firs witzh an audience too often not really interested in Fandtay and Scheince Tictiion so same has happened to series like TIME TUNNEL and THRESHHOLD both shows that are still unning on TV since years by now 1:03 SLight ERROR. I have always had a soft spot in my heart for this series. So 1970's, it has a certain charm. 👍
It definitely has that 70's charm. Thanks for watching!
@@KBsRetrospective Have you seen the animated Apes series, from about 1975? It's surprisingly good too! Search it out of RUclips.

I would have loved to have seen what they got up to with a 2nd season. A mutant human city story sounds like it would of been awesome.
Thanks! Good information
Galen and Urko is so good ape characters
I loved the series. It should have showed more imagination.

The ending is what killed the "remake". Such a failed opportunity.
