If you reduce the voltage, can the internals handle any corresponding increase in current?
Similar questions exist if you increase the voltage (beyond the previously fixed voltage) will the components get fried?
My serious advise if you want a variable voltage supply BUY ONE, unless you happen to be a very highly skilled/competent in power circuitry and know exactly what you are doing.! I really admire people who play with electronics but there are are always dangers - fires explosions and electrocution which can be fatal! The rusts massively increase with decreasing skill level.

I try to modify a PSU of 12V 12,5A that actually deliver 13,7V in this way to obtain approximately 16V so I can charge with it a 12V 92A AGM battery.
On my PSU it have on the PCB 2 resistors of 2,2K.
I used a 220R resistor and a B5K but it's ticking, hardly starts for 2-3 seconds and stops, delivering a maximum of 9V...
Any advice, what values to use for the desired 16V as output?
Isn't enought solder in parallel the 5K Pot. on trimmer?
100 ohm resistor must be added for minimum value

have to check output capacitor voltage!!
usually only 16V on 12V supply, so change to 35V for *reliable* 16V output...poor quality capacitors may go "poof" if used at maximum voltage for any longer time!

Конечно, МОЛОДЕЦ! Но я бы не стал сажать на термоклей переменник к радиатору. Его лучше установить на корпус при помощи кронштейна. Я все это сделал еще 7 лет назад, когда мне попался точно такой же блок питания с бракованным подстроечником

Der China Kram sieht wie Enterprise aus . Es ist aber auch nur sehr Einfaches drin.
You might find some PSU will start switching on and of if the voltage goes too low. This is because the output voltage from the transformer to the pulse width modulation controller chip drops too low, and you get that clicking on an off from the PSU.
lower values will not be a problem.

Keep in mind that no matter what voltage you set, it's maximum output is 15.6W. That 21W automotive lamp will cause the power supply to overheat and it will either thermal shutdown or burn up at that load. It's the switching transistor that would burn and thermal shutdown will only happen if that feature is built-in with a temp sensor on the heatsink. That's a pretty big supply for only 12V/1.3A [15.6W] You can get small wall warts that put out 3A@12V and small laptop like/style power supplies that put out 10A@12V.
yes the total power is constant but works extremely well at lower values
@@ZAFERYILDIZ52 If you draw excessive current at a lower voltage even without exceeding the power rating you risk burning out the transformer secondary winding.
The little TL431 circuit parts are very good to use in so many ways. I've been using them for decades now...
