Thank you Lyle for showing my model, and thank you to all of the viewers for your kind remarks! Yes, it was a labor of love with over 40 parts and 400 machine operations. I hope you enjoy owning this as much as I enjoyed making it, and hopefully it will be in your family for generations to come.

Mr. Restaino, I have, in my career ( over 35 years now ), worked on one or two Bridgeport mills and I can tell you that model is a wonderful piece of workmanship. An absolute marvel to me. And not just 1 or 2 - you did it 8 times!!!
I think all that's missing is about 30 coats of that awful green paint, but maybe that only happens in Scotland. And it would be a great pity to cover up any of your hard work.
I hope you have time to read every comment, as Mr.Pete suggested, just to see how many people appreciate the skill involved in making this model - a labour of love indeed.

James: I appreciate the opportunity to see the amazing micro mill model. Your workman ship is incredible and should be displayed in the Smithsonian for all to view and appreciate. I chuckled regarding how most everyone looks at our projects and immediately their eyes glaze over. My wife just says "that's nice" and pats me on the shoulder. I do my projects for me and my own feeling of accomplishment. Someday the family will discover what I made and say "what was that poor man thinking". Take care, be well.

Thank you James and Mr Pete!!! Both of you are a treasure I'm 65 now and my favorite memories are in 1970 my shop teacher showing us how to use machine equipment and how important it was. It saddens me that young people don't seem to care about anything. I am lucky enough to have a south bend 9c and a rf 30 mill now and enjoy them and enjoy them in my home shop. So thanks again for being a wonderful teacher !!!

To James: I was a hands-on engineer in a shop and test lab, surrounded by the sights, sounds, and aromas of machine tools for 47 years. Therefore, I can recognize the brilliance to conceive this model and, even more, the patience and skills to achieve it. I know that my own imagination writes checks that my skills can't cash. You have my heartfelt admiration. "Well done" doesn't come close to the required response when seeing this.
To Lyle: Thank you for showing us this marvelous work. I'm sure that at 100% of your real viewers, and more than 90% of the casual passers by, will appreciate this as much as I do. While you have not presented each of us viewers with a beautiful hand-made model that took an incredible amount of time to create, you have presented each of us with a beautiful hand-made set of informative and entertaining videos that took an incredible amount of time to create. We are as thankful to you as you are to James.

James did an awesome job on that model, looks absolutely gorgeous!! The attention to detail and the finish couldn't be better. And he was kind enough to gift one to our favorite Internet Shop Teacher! Thank you so much James!
I know what you mean about people's interests Mr. Pete, and it's not just limited to model making; it seems to encompass anything mechanical. Those of us that are mechanical minded deal with the "oh, that's interesting" crowd to the point of not sharing anything we do and keep to ourselves. Fortunately we now have internet resources to seek out like minded people and their projects and share ours so we know they actually are interested rather than just getting the verbal pat on the head.

I thought that James’ model was absolutely amazing back before you revealed the dovetails, functional lead screws on each axis, the quill, the articulation of the head, and the genius Allen wrench storage. Now, I’m having a heck of a time picking my jaw up off the floor! If what we can see is that incredibly detailed, I can’t even imagine just how impressive the knee pinion gear must be!
If you happen to read this, James, I am both in awe of your model and deeply inspired by it. I am new to machining and have yet to acquire a mill of my own, but when I finally do, I can only hope that I’ll be able to one day create something that is worthy of even being in the same room with your magnificent model. It is, without exaggeration, an absolute masterpiece!

Seconded! By the time Lyle got to the tool storage, my reaction was "After all the genius already on display, OF COURSE he added a compartment with a dovetail cover. With that level of attention to detail, he'd never risk not having the right tool handy." Amazing job; an incredible amount of painstaking handwork. Thank you, James!

To James. What a wonderful machine you have built. I too thought it was a static model at first, and was amazed as Mr Pete showed off each feature, right down to the moving quill. And 8 of them! You are a master craftsman indeed. I spent 10 years using a Brigeport in a workshop, and it brought back lots of memories.
To Mr Pete. Thank you for showing us this gem of the machinists art. I have scratch built flying model planes all my life, and can agree with your comments re showing them to "regular folks". Damn, I just did the math and it's been 55 years....

I started a metal fabrication business 45 years ago and my first major purchase was a brand new Bridgeport mill. My company grew to a significant size and I hired many machinists and tool makers over the years requiring me to purchase additional machine tools but I always kept track of my original Bridgeport. I retired recently and sold my business but I am taking my original mill with me so I can restore it to its original glory. I still have the original paperwork.
I know this video and the skill required to build this replica is very much appreciated by guys like me.

This is an amazing piece of work! and he made 8 of them! James is a model maker who obviously loves his hobby. As you said, many do not appreciate these things.I believe it is due to them not knowing or understanding the things involved in making such a beautiful model as this.I believe modern manufacturing has ruined it for people because they can find intricate items in mass quantities every day without seeing what goes into their building. We who have been in the trade or taken machining up as a hobby may be the only ones truly capable of appreciating the skill and dedication required to produce this kind of masterpiece.

James, indeed hobby machining is a very lonely avocation, but I wager virtually all the regular viewers of MrPete222 are an appreciative audience as am I. What amazing planning, skill, and patience in this project. After a full career, followed by the last decade of cancer, transplant, and 9 surgeries I'm teaching myself machining and have built a very small shop as my rehab. I dearly wish someone like you could be my mentor - my health is too poor to attend vocational school, and over the past three years, I've been unable to find anyone near or far. So indeed, machining is a solitary pursuit! (And Mr. Pete, I built every model I could get my hands on as a kid - so you're not alone!)

My wife built me a shop and equipped it with a Bridgeport and a lathe when I was a couple of years short of retirement....what a smart lady. Things were very stressful for me in my last year on the job, going out to my shop was the best therapy a guy could get.....and much cheaper than a shrink! Good luck and Godspeed Mr. Restaino. Keep on hanging around doing stuff out in the shop. It will keep you young and happy.

Brilliant! Many old time shops had a tradition of pensioning off a retiree with a shop-made gift from the rest of the crew. I once saw a 6"x6" pantograph engraver in a mahogany presentation box. It was made by 30 or so men (working on lunch hours) and much like James's masterpiece. Like you said, the rest of the family thought it was "cute"-- few recognized or respected the skills of the trade that showcased in that model. •/rant over•

I was taught that if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all. This is a remarkable piece of machining! Absolutely beautiful. If people don't know what it is they are watching the wrong channel, because it is quite obvious to all who watch here. And we look at this piece in awe! James you have many admirers now. And a bit envious as well. To have your talent...wow! Regards, Solomon

In 2000 Barry Jordan made a Bridgeport mill model that actually worked! And he won a prize at a model show.

    Hello Mr. Pete,
That is an amazing piece of workmanship. Thank you for sharing it with us. I could be mistaken, but it looked to me like the tiny lead screws were even acme threads!
    James,
Words cannot adequately describe the beautiful Bridgeport replica that you have created. Thank you for sending it to Mr. Pete so that we could enjoy it as well.
    Best,
    mike

What an incredible work of art. The fact it is fully movable is even more impressive. I can only wish one day I could produce something that complex and intricate.

Mr. Pete, James demonstrates the point where a skill becomes art. I know my old 8th grade art teacher would argue that this is a craft and not art but to me, no other word sums up the amount of work or frustration required to produce something that beautiful.

Magnificent piece of work by James, your a very lucky recipient, of course 80% of the people out there wouldn’t know the difference between a milling machine and a pillar drill.

Thanks for the follow-up on this wonderful part of a world apart from today! I too, as a lad, spent a lot of my $0.25 per week allowance (farm wages growing up) at the end of the summer on Revell, Monogram & AMF models. Largest one I recall building was of the hospital ship "Hope". Most of the color scheme was quite EASY to paint! LOL!
    Thanks for the memories!
