Fascinating insights into an abstract idea, as you said, it is rather like a precursor to touch screen ordering. I don't think it would make a comeback, as pretty much the same thing exists with people ordering their meals over smartphones. Thank you for sharing!

Last year i stopped by a diner in a tiny middle of nowhere town and they had this system! Thought it was a cute gimmick, had no idea this was a surviving dinosaur lol

wowowowowow!! great video!! I like the idea and the editing is nice. one thing tho I think you should have on screen subtitles for the interview sections of the people talking about the restaurants but that's a personal thing lmao. great video!!!! :D

I thought about it!! I was just lazy and I knew the interviews were fairly small LOL. But I'll probably do that in future projects with low quality phone calls.

I've seen this at an indoor Sonic burger place. Phones at tables.

There used to be a Sonic near me with one of these systems. I kinda figured it was just another gimmick since this location didn't have the usual drive-thru setup you normally find at Sonics. It was kind of strange because the only times I remember seeing employees were when they were bringing out food. They didn't have an order counter or anything, just a single door leading to the kitchen. The phones had only a single red button that you pushed to order. No fancy hold music, just a dial tone until someone answered. Unfortunately, they remodeled the place recently and took out all the phones and made it into a more traditional place like a McDonalds.

So it’s exactly the same as modern places with an iPad to order in the table (I see them a lot in sushi places). Good that the phone version didn’t last, I can’t imagine a worse hell than having the customer being able to call you directly when you’re trying to cook
