Nice job, Mr. Balkum, for videoing the SpaceX Starship booster landing in the MechaZilla chopsticks. Thank you! For those who don't know, it's on the Ellie in Space channel. Video name: Slo-mo Starship Booster Catch using a Red Digital Cinema Camera
Hi Scott, thanks a great review. Really appreciate the breakdown of the menu options. I'm interested in purchasing but often film in hot humid conditions. Have you filmed in similar conditions with it? If so does it fog up? Thanks in advance!
Hi Scott, I have a question about the frame lines: is it possible to hide the outer area with black bars? Does the "shading" option achieve this? I’d like to use the viewfinder for photography to simulate widescreen formats and preview how the image would look after applying the widescreen crop in post. This feature would be incredibly helpful in the field, as my camera only captures images in a 3:2 ratio. Cheers
Very well covered, very thorough (and honest) - thank you Buddy! Interesting that HDMI has the same potential vulnerability as SDI... Thanks for the warning! I saw your links - equipment you use almost daily... V-Raptor X ??? Did you get your VRX already? That's exciting if you did!! (You should let them know the Kinefinity link is VERY delayed and unresponsive?)
@@ScottBalkum oh ok. I was getting excited! I’m going to be the only noob to own that camera! (I’ll probably have to start with a KX though). I just don’t know how to resist such a beautiful tool at such an affordable price?
Is there any way to do exposure compensation on the incoming hdmi feed? As I often expose all the way to right in my camera, the image is very bright and not very suitable for composing. Ideally I would be able to turn it a couple of stops down inside the viewfinder
There is no capability that I could find that would do that. I suspect the same limitations of the hardware would prevent that option coming via firmware.
Not really any options that I’m aware of. The cabling standards really don’t support such things. 12G SDI only supports 120 at 1080P and most likely, you’d be filming at a higher resolution than that. The HDMI 2.2 spec didn’t get released until yesterday which can do 240fps.
No LUT? Really? That makes it kind of useless with all Sonly mirrorless cameras and many other cameras that this would work with. Even $100 monitors have LUT support now. Such a shame.

I'm a fan of your channel!
Excellent thorough and entertaining overview! I just pre-ordered one for my Canon C80!
Thank you!

I don’t own one yet. Soon. But I do use it in my regular day jobs. ;) I just have S35 Vrap.

@@ScottBalkum How does the s35 compare to the VV?
@@cogmission1 Capability wise, they are the same. Just a smaller sensor. The VV might have a half stop of DR more. The RX though has quite a bit more.
@@ScottBalkum I guess that’s what I got from the CVP review (re: 1/2 stop). I suppose if you have a bunch of S 35 lenses, that’s the only way to go.

... not being able to load a LUT on the EVF is a dealbreaker for me unfortunately. Thanks for the review!
Hey man! I happened to notice that Red has a new beta firmware 1.8.1 for the Komodo. Would love a video on it!
What I need it a camera and EVF that outputs and has a higher refresh rate than 60Hz

amazingly we 'see' upside down, but our brain flips the image.
Accurate. Its also mirrored vision.
I must know what your b-roll lens is lol
Throw it on the s9, release the demon!!

Sony FX3 and FX30s can output a LUT via HDMI so they’re good. Nikons can’t at the moment.
@@ScottBalkum Thanks Scott.
That's a crazy oversight by Kinefinity.
@@MechaUsagi Its important to know exactly what you can and can’t do. That’s what I try to do with my reviews.
@@ScottBalkum Yes, super useful. I might have wasted a lot of money if I'd not seen this video. Thank you.
Hi Sant, although Christmas has passed, I still hope you can give it to me.
