- With a desire for a better reverse camera, decent navigation capabilities, handsfree calling, and music streaming capability, we decided to build an OpenAuto Pro system for our van conversion.
Was it worth it? Was it difficult? Would I do it again?

Is there anything I didn't cover in the video that you would like to know about? Would anyone be interested if I made available the scripts for monitoring the ignition and reverse signals?
Nice video! I spent Feb-August of this year prototyping and designing (and redesigning!) a build for my new-to-me car and love it, but was saddened to see they've sold/discontinued it and shut the forums down. I guess since technically I shouldn't need to ever update it, it'll be fine, but it does suck.
Oh, that is a shame. I hadn't picked up on that. The openauto github really doesn't seem to have seen any significant activity in quite a while. I did play around with Crankshaft a bit before deciding on OpenAuto Pro and that seems a little more active on Github. You are correct though, once you have your OpenAuto Pro build up and running satisfactorily you don't really need to touch it. I haven't made any changes to mine for over a year now.
Thanks for chipping in.
Many rear view camera's have the mirrored image built in, so you don't have to mirror it yourself 😉
Hey thanks for the comment. That could have been a good option. I didn't realise it was a problem until after I did the install, so I found a way to solve the problem without having to replace or reconfigure any hardware. The only change required was in software and honestly it was pretty easy.
Have not been able to get android auto working when i plug in phone. What USB outlet are you using? Is there a trick?
It just worked for me. I guess you've checked the settings in your phone to make sure Android Auto is enabled to make connections? If you are using a known good cable (works for connection to a computer for example) there should be no reason it wouldn't work. It might be a permissions thing in the phone. I did have issues with connection that related to the USB port on my phone having foreign material in it so it wasn't making reliable connection but that also showed up when connecting to my laptop and even just my charger.
Hope that helps or sparks an idea for you.
Hi, did it work with recent raspberry pi "display 2"?
I can't say for sure, but it should work with any Raspberry Pi compatible touch screen.
